The Hellenic Parliament (Greek:Βουλή των Ελλήνων, "Parliament of the Hellenes", transliterated Voulà ton EllÃnon) is the parliament of Greece, located in the Old Royal Palace, overlooking Syntagma Square in Athens. The Parliament is the supreme democratic institution that represents the citizens through an elected body of Members of Parliament (MPs).
Although during the Greek Revolution a number of National Assemblies had been held, the first national parliament of the independent Greek state was established only in 1843, after the September 3rd Revolution, which forced King Otto to grant a constitution. The Constitution of 1844 established the constitutional monarchy under the decisive power of the monarch, who exercised also the legislative power jointly with the elected House of Representatives and the appointed Senate. It also established the Ministers' accountability vis-Ã -vis the acts of the monarch who was appointing them and suspending them; it recognized fundamental human rights and, for the first time, foresaw in article 107 that "Observance of the Constitution herein is entrusted to the patriotism of the Greeks".

Greek parliament opens with swearing in ceremony
The new Greek parliament has been officially sworn in.
Different lawmakers have taken different oaths: Greek Orthodox, Muslim, and political.
The assembly was elected in a national poll in September, seven months into Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras' first term.
His left-wing Syriza party won by an unexpected wide margin, but short of an overall majority.
Tsipras called the snap election after hardline left-wingers in Syriza rebelled against his policy u-turn that saw Greece signing a third …

http://www.euronews.com/ The neo-Nazi Golden Dawn party is at the centre of another political row in Greece after one of its MPs was expelled from parliament amid cries of "Heil Hitler".
The sitting president had already warned Panayiotis Iliopoulos for repeatedly violating parliamentary rules by insulting fellow deputies.
After he had called them "goats", "scoundrels" and "wretched people", security guards were called to lead him away.
The phrase "Heil Hitler " was clearly heard three times - although who shouted it is in dispute. Golden Dawn claims the cries came from left-wing deputies from the opposition Syriza party.
However, Stavros Kontonis, an MP from Syriza, is having none of it.
"For second time this week we hear Hitler being glorified inside parliament by Golden Dawn MPs. It's strange the fact that in order to distance themselves from praising Hitler in a provocative way, they claimed it was me who uttered this phrase ironically. But this is refuted by their own evidence," he told euronews.
Amid anger at the recession and resentment at immigration, Golden Dawn won 18 seats in last year's Greek elections.
Several deputies have had their immunity from prosecution, lifted pending criminal charges.
