A grain is a unit of measurement of mass equal to 7001647989100000000♠64.79891milligrams. It is nominally based upon the mass of a single seed of a cereal. From the Bronze Age into the Renaissance the average masses of wheat and barley grains were part of the legal definition of units of mass. However, there is no evidence of any country ever having used actual seeds or cereal grains. Rather, expressions such as "thirty-two grains of wheat, taken from the middle of the ear" appear to have been ritualistic formulas, essentially the premodern equivalent of legal boilerplate.
The grain was the legal foundation of traditional English weight systems, and is the only unit that is equal throughout the troy, avoirdupois, and apothecaries' systems of mass. The unit was based on the weight of a single grain of barley, considered equivalent to 11⁄3 grains of wheat. The fundamental unit of the pre-1527 English weight system known as Tower weights, was a different sort of grain known as the "wheat grain". The Tower wheat grain was defined as exactly 45⁄64 of a troy grain.
In computer science, a termination analysis is program analysis which attempts to determine whether the evaluation of a given program will definitely terminate. Because the halting problem is undecidable, termination analysis cannot be total. The aim is to find the answer "program does terminate" (or "program does not terminate") whenever this is possible. Without success the algorithm (or human) working on the termination analysis may answer with "maybe" or continue working infinitely long.
A simple, general method for constructing termination proofs involves associating a measure with each step of an algorithm. The measure is taken from the domain of a well-founded relation, such as from the ordinal numbers. If the measure "decreases" according to the relation along every possible step of the algorithm, it must terminate, because there are no infinite descending chains with respect to a well-founded relation.
Grain is set in the near future when human survival is threatened by war and famine. Scientists and geneticists must combine forces to create a sustainable food source.
Production
The film is produced by Kaplanoğlu's company, Kaplan Films; Heimatfilm (Germany) and Arte France Cinéma (France). Part of the film was shot in Detroit, Michigan.
Grain is a stream cipher submitted to eSTREAM in 2004 by Martin Hell, Thomas Johansson and Willi Meier. It has been selected for the final eSTREAM portfolio for Profile 2 by the eSTREAM project. Grain is designed primarily for restricted hardware environments. It accepts an 80-bitkey and a 64-bit IV. The specifications do not recommended a maximum length of output per (key, iv) pair. A number of potential weaknesses in the cipher have been identified and corrected in Grain 128a which is now the recommended cipher to use for hardware environments providing both 128bit security and authentication.
Description
Grains' 160-bit internal state consists of an 80-bit linear feedback shift register (LFSR) and an 80-bit non-linear feedback shift register (NLFSR). Grain updates one bit of LFSR and one bit of NLFSR state for every bit of ciphertext released by a nonlinear filter function. The 80-bit NLFSR is updated with a nonlinear 5-to-1 Boolean function and a 1 bit linear input selected from the LFSR. The nonlinear 5-to-1 function takes as input 5 bits of the NLFSR state. The 80-bit LFSR is updated with a 6-to-1 linear function. During keying operations the output of the cipher is additionally fed-back as linear inputs into both the NLFSR and LFSR update functions.

Chasing Megas: BNSF Mega unit grain trains - BNSF Lakeside Sub, Central Washington State
In the drive to move bulk commodities like grain to market many advances have been made by railroads through the years. One of them is the now common "unit train", most over 100 cars long. But now in a further push for efficiency two of these trains are commonly linked together to create a "mega" train. Mind you this only works if the right of way can handle it. Too many 14,000 foot trains will jam up the network in a hurry if they are not timed correctly. On the BNSF Lakeside Sub in eastern Washington this once experiment is now all too common.
In just a single day I found:
Northbound at Cunningham: 3 loco, 115 cars, 2 loco, 116 cars, 1 loco - 231 cars (empties)
Southbound at Cunningham: 3 loco, 115 cars, 3 loco, 115 cars, 2 loco - 230 cars (loads)
