The Good Friday Agreement (GFA) or Belfast Agreement (Irish:Comhaontú Bhéal Feirste or Comhaontú Aoine an Chéasta; Ulster-Scots: Bilfawst Greeance or Guid Friday Greeance) was a major political development in the Northern Ireland peace process of the 1990s. Northern Ireland's present devolved system of government is based on the Agreement. The Agreement also created a number of institutions between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland and between the Republic of Ireland and the United Kingdom.
The Agreement is made up of two inter-related documents, both agreed in Belfast on Good Friday, 10 April 1998:
a multi-party agreement by most of Northern Ireland's political parties;
an international agreement between the British and Irish governments (the British-Irish Agreement).
The Agreement set out a complex series of provisions relating to a number of areas including:
The status and system of government of Northern Ireland within the United Kingdom. (Strand 1)
The relationship between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. (Strand 2)
Good Friday is a widely instituted legal holiday in many national governments around the world, including in most Western countries (especially among Anglican and Catholic nations) as well as in 12 U.S. states. Some governments, such as Germany, have laws prohibiting certain acts, such as dancing and horse racing, that are seen as profaning the solemn nature of the day.
Etymology
The etymology of the term "good" in the context of Good Friday is contested. Some sources claim "good" to simply mean pious or holy, while others contend that it is a corruption of "God Friday". The Oxford English Dictionary supports the first etymology, giving "of a day or season observed as holy by the church" as an archaic sense of good (good, adj. 8c), and providing examples of good tide meaning "Christmas" or "Shrove Tuesday", and Good Wednesday meaning the Wednesday in Holy Week.
GOOD Fridays is a weekly free music giveaway by rapper Kanye West, launched in support of his fifth studio album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010). The intention was to release a free new song every Friday for a few months to promote his album, and the weekly tracks generally featured various rappers from his label, GOOD Music, and other artists he usually collaborated with. All of the GOOD Friday tracks come with their own cover art. West initially announced that the free music program releases songs from August 20, 2010 to Christmas 2010. However at the beginning of November, West announced that he was extending GOOD Fridays until the end of January. 15 GOOD Friday tracks have been released through the program and four tracks appeared on West's album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
On January 8, 2016, it was announced by West's wife Kim Kardashian that G.O.O.D Fridays would be returning leading up to his upcoming album, The Life of Pablo (then known by the titles Waves, SWISH and So Help Me God).
Good Friday is a studio album by The Easybeats, released in May 1967. This was the first album released after the band signed an international recording deal with United Artists Records. The original UK album was released in May 1967. Although "Friday on My Mind" was a big single in the UK, the album failed to make the top 40.
Due to contract issues in the band's home country of Australia, there was no official album release of this material. The songs "Friday On My Mind", "Made My Bed, Gonna Lie In It" and "Pretty Girl" were released on greatest hits package: The Best of The Easybeats + Pretty Girl while other songs would appear on various EP's. The UK version was later reissued by Repertoire Records (but re-titled Friday on My Mind like the US release) and featured twelve bonus tracks.
The Good Friday Agreement was signed 25 years ago. It was a deal based on the idea of co-operation between communities in Northern Ireland.
Its aim was to help bring an end to a period of conflict and violence in the North called the Troubles.

Belfast Marks 25th Anniversary of Good Friday Agreement
April 10 marks 25 years since the Good Friday Agreement was signed in Belfast. Hammered out in large part by Bertie Ahern, Tony Blair and Bill Clinton, the peace deal changed the course of Northern Ireland's history, ending more than 30 years of armed conflict known as "The Troubles." The accord formed today's government, based on power-sharing between the mostly Catholic nationalists, who wanted independence, and the Protestant unionists wanting to keep ties with the UK. Northern Ireland ‘peace babies’ reflect on Good Friday agreement’s 25th anniversary - BBC Newsnight
What can the visit of US President Joe Biden to Belfast do for peace in Northern Ireland and to help restore the government there?
Amist a huge security operation, the President arrived last night to mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday peace agreement.
For those born after the Agreement was signed, it was hoped their lives would be free of brutal sectarian conflict that scarred the generations before them.
Radio 1 Newsbeat’s politics reporter Jordan Kenny was born in 1998 after the agreement was signed. He has been talking to other young people like him about what it means to be a so-called ‘peace baby’ in a place still grappling with its past, and what the future of this still-divided nation could hold.

The Agreement is made up of two inter-related documents, both agreed in Belfast on Good Friday, 10 April 1998:
a multi-party agreement by most of Northern Ireland's political parties;
an international agreement between the British and Irish governments (the British-Irish Agreement).
The Agreement set out a complex series of provisions relating to a number of areas including:
The status and system of government of Northern Ireland within the United Kingdom. (Strand 1)
The relationship between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. (Strand 2)
We've been avoiding this for so long Luxury is temporary than it's gone I thought that we would happen I guess I'm wrong We'll move along I know this will be awkward but not for long Cause soon you'll have a new boy to sing you songs chorus I will not forgive you Nor will I accept the blame I will see you on Good Friday On Good Friday I'm sorry I couldn't do this yesterday and tomorrow I am busy and what it is I can't say And Saturday's no good I got a show So it's got to be Good Friday Then it's so long bridge You, You come and go when you please I know unfulfilled heads I know you do too But I, you know I never see things through, Never paid attention to you But honey I tried.
