Charles Messier
Charles Messier (French: [me.sje]; 26 June 1730 – 12 April 1817) was a French astronomer most notable for publishing an astronomical catalogue consisting of nebulae and star clusters that came to be known as the 110 "Messier objects". The purpose of the catalogue was to help astronomical observers, in particular comet hunters such as himself, distinguish between permanent and transient visually diffuse objects in the sky.
Biography
Messier was born in Badonviller in the Lorraine region of France, being the tenth of twelve children of Françoise B. Grandblaise and Nicolas Messier, a Court usher. Six of his brothers and sisters died while young and in 1741, his father died. Charles' interest in astronomy was stimulated by the appearance of the spectacular, great six-tailed comet in 1744 and by an annular solar eclipse visible from his hometown on 25 July 1748.
In 1751 he entered the employ of Joseph Nicolas Delisle, the astronomer of the French Navy, who instructed him to keep careful records of his observations. Messier's first documented observation was that of the Mercury transit of 6 May 1753.

Uranium carbide
Uranium carbide, a carbide of uranium, is a hard refractory ceramic material. It comes in several stoichiometries (UCx), such as uranium methanide (UC, CAS number 12070-09-6), uranium sesquicarbide (U2C3, CAS number 12076-62-9), and uranium acetylide (UC2, CAS number 12071-33-9).
Like uranium dioxide and some other uranium compounds, uranium carbide can be used as a nuclear fuel for nuclear reactors, usually in the form of pellets or tablets. Uranium carbide fuel was used in late designs of nuclear thermal rockets.
Uranium carbide pellets are used as fuel kernels for the US version of pebble bed reactors; the German version uses uranium dioxide instead.
As nuclear fuel, uranium carbide can be used either on its own, or mixed with plutonium carbide (PuC and Pu2C3). The mixture is also labeled as uranium-plutonium carbide (PuC U).
Uranium carbide is also a popular target material for particle accelerators.
Ammonia synthesis from nitrogen and hydrogen is sometimes accomplished in the presence of uranium carbide acting as a catalyst.

Trousers
Trousers (pants in North America) are an item of clothing worn from the waist to the ankles, covering both legs separately (rather than with cloth extending across both legs as in robes, skirts, and dresses).
In the UK the word "pants" generally means underwear and not trousers.Shorts are similar to trousers, but with legs that come down only to around the area of the knee, higher or lower depending on the style of the garment. Breeches were worn instead of trousers in early modern Europe by some men in higher classes of society. Since the mid-20th century, trousers have increasingly been worn by women as well. Jeans, made of denim, are a form of trousers for casual wear, now widely worn all over the world by both sexes. Shorts are often preferred in hot weather or for some sports and also often by children and teenagers. Trousers are worn on the hips or waist and may be held up by their own fastenings, a belt or suspenders (braces). Leggings are form-fitting trousers, of a clingy material, often knitted cotton and spandex (elastane).

Vocal (Pet Shop Boys song)
"Vocal" is the second single from the Pet Shop Boys album Electric, released on 3 June 2013.
Background
"Vocal" was written during the writing process for the 2012 album Elysium, and was one of the earliest tracks written for the album. The track, however, wasn't included on the record as it didn't fit the rest of the "somber" and "reflective" material. It was instead recorded for Electric and was released as the album's second single.
Music video
The music video was directed by Joost Vandebrug. It is a tribute to rave culture and electronic music. It consists of a compilation of various amateur videos recorded circa the Summer of Rave in 1989.
Live performances
It is performed as the final encore on the Electric Tour.
Release formats
The single has been released in both digital and physical formats, with the latter containing the original album version along with 8 original remixes.
Charts
Because the song is over six minutes long and the single edit was never made available for purchase, it was ineligible to chart on most singles charts around the world, and only a few charts have ever included it, despite the single selling well.

Astro (Japanese band)
Astro is a Japanese noise group, originally started in 1993 as a solo project of Hiroshi Hasegawa (長谷川洋, Hasegawa Hiroshi) of the group C.C.C.C.. Hiroshi Hasegawa uses assorted analog equipment including vintage Moog and EMS synthesizers. His music covers a wide range of styles in the noise field, from space music to psychedelically-tinged harsh noise. Since 2013, Astro has been a duo of Hiroshi Hasegawa and Rohco (Hiroko Hasegawa), who has played with Astro since 2009.

Astro (rapper)
Brian Vaughn Bradley, Jr. (born September 27, 1996), better known by his stage name Astro, Stro or The Astronomical Kid, is an American rapper and actor. Mostly known for being a contestant on the first season of The X Factor USA in 2011. Astro took the judges with his original song shot at Simon, for looking at his mom. His mentor was L.A. Reid, the mentor for the boys. Astro was seventh place in the competition. After his appearance on The X Factor, he starred in an episode of Person of Interest. In 2014, he co-starred in the major films Earth to Echo and A Walk Among the Tombstones, and the Fox series Red Band Society.
Early life
Astro was born Brian Bradley on September 27, 1996 in Brooklyn, New York. There, he lived in a single parent household with his Jamaican mother, Cascia Thomspon, and younger sister. He began rapping professionally at the age of ten when his mother promised him studio time if he began to do better in school. He soon released his first single, "Stop Looking at My Moms" and created his first mixtape "B.O.A. (Birth of Astro)." He later started composing instrumentals of his own that pertained to the hip hop music genre.

The Last Object: The Grave Of Charles Messier
Charles Messier (1730-1817) was a French astronomer and comet-hunter, whose famous Messier list of objects is a kind of bucket list for amateur astronomers, particularly those in the Northern hemisphere. He was buried in Père Lachaise in Paris, but a number of online posts had suggested his tomb was lost or hidden in the massive cemetery. I went to see if I could find it.

OTD in Space - Oct. 13: Charles Messier Discovers the 'Whirlpool Galaxy'
On Oct. 13, 1773, a French astronomer named Charles Messier discovered the "whirlpool galaxy," also known as Messier 51, or M51. Charles Messier was scanning the sky for objects that could confuse comet hunters when he catalogued the galaxy as M51. However, Messier wasn't able to see the spiral structure, and he didn't identify it as a galaxy. Seventy-two years later, another astronomer named William Parsons saw the whirlpool shape, but he thought it was a spiral nebula. Eventually, Edwin Hubble found out that M51 and other features like it were actually galaxies.

But his most notable accomplishment was his compilation of a catalog of 110 astronomical objects that appeared to be more than just a single star through his small refracting telescope.
The objects’ Messier designated, from M1 to M110, are still in use today by almost all astronomers. Several of these objects were discovered by his assistant - Pierre Mechain.
The catalogue is not organized scientifically by object type or by location. Nonetheless, the Messier catalogue comprises nearly all the most spectacular examples of the five types of deep sky objects -- diffuse nebulae, planetary nebulae, open clusters, globular clusters and galaxies.
Today, through the use of highly advanced astronomical equipment, we can see these breathtaking creations in extreme detail.
The apostle Paul tells us: “The invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead...”
We are without excuse... As I use sophisticated telescopes and technology to view the incredible majesty of the heavens, it leaves me in awe of the amazing designs of our Creator.

On Oct. 13, 1773, a French astronomer named Charles Messier discovered the "whirlpool galaxy," also known as Messier 51, or M51. Charles Messier was scanning the sky for objects that could confuse comet hunters when he catalogued the galaxy as M51. However, Messier wasn't able to see the spiral structure, and he didn't identify it as a galaxy. Seventy-two years later, another astronomer named William Parsons saw the whirlpool shape, but he thought it was a spiral nebula. Eventually, Edwin Hubble found out that M51 and other features like it were actually galaxies.

Para todo aquel que estrena su primer telescopio, existe una emoción por empezar a explorar el cielo y asombrarse con las maravillas del cielo profundo, pero esto resulta muy difícil si no tenemos idea de hacia dónde buscar las nebulosas, cúmulos y galaxias más famosas.
Lo recomendable es empezar a familiarizarse con la bóveda celeste reconociendo las constelaciones, las estrellas más destacadas y estudiando la ubicación de los objetos celestes más brillantes.
Por suerte, existe el catálogo Messier: un listado que suma más de 100 nebulosas, cúmulos y galaxias incluidos en un trabajo que inició un célebre cazador de cometas francés, de nombre Charles Messier.
En cada oportunidad, Messier observaba el cielo y cualquier manchón de luz borrosa que encontraba, anotaba sus coordenadas. En cuestión de minutos u horas, el movimiento propio del visitante celeste delataba su naturaleza: ¡Un cometa nuevo! Messier descubrió cerca de 20 cometas a lo largo de su vida, pero, entre tantos cometas, había algunos objetos rebeldes, cuya conducta no era la de un cometa. Pasaban las horas y los días ¡y no se movían! ¿De qué se trataba?
Y, ¿cómo es que el registro de estos objetos llevó el día de hoy a miles de aficionados de la astronomía alrededor del mundo a buscar, en una sola noche, los 110 objetos que conforman el catálogo Messier?

Picking up an astronomy magazine, one might find a photo of the gorgeous Messier 42 or come across the spectacular Messier 13. Search the web for galaxies, and you might see Messier 101, or come across Messier 51. But what is this Messier, and what does it mean?
Charles Messier was a Frenchman who lived from 1730 to 1817. Born in Badonviller France, he was the tenth of twelve children. His discovered his love for astronomy with the appearance of what is known as the six tailed comet of 1744.
In 1751 he enlisted in the Navy, under the direction of Joseph Nicolas Delisle who was the resident astronomer at the time. Delisle instructed Messier to keep records of his observations. The first of these observations was that of the transit of Mercury in 1753.
But his most notable accomplishment was his compilation of a catalog of 110 astronomical objects that appeared to be more than just a single star through his small refracting telescope.
The objects’ Messier designated, from M1 to M110, are still in use today by almost all astronomers. Several of these objects were discovered by his assistant - Pierre Mechain.
The catalogue is not organized scientifically by object type or by location. Nonetheless, the Messier catalogue comprises nearly all the most spectacular examples of the five types of deep sky objects -- diffuse nebulae, planetary nebulae, open clusters, globular clusters and galaxies.
Today, through the use of highly advanced astronomical equipment, we can see these breathtaking creations in extreme detail.

We are without excuse... As I use sophisticated telescopes and technology to view the incredible majesty of the heavens, it leaves me in awe of the amazing designs of our Creator.

The Messier catalog includes some of the most fascinating astronomical objects that can be observed from Earth's Northern Hemisphere. Among them are deep-sky objects that can be viewed in stunning detail using larger telescopes but are also bright enough to be seen through a small telescope. This characteristic makes Messier objects extremely popular targets for amateur astronomers possessing all levels of experience and equipment. They are so popular, in fact, that they have inspired a special award from the Astronomical League (an organization for amateur astronomers) given to observers who are able to spot each of these objects. Charles Messier (1730-1817) was a French astronomer and comet-hunter, whose famous Messier list of objects is a kind of bucket list for amateur astronomers, particularly those in the Northern hemisphere. He was buried in Père Lachaise in Paris, but a number of online posts had suggested his tomb was lost or hidden in the massive cemetery. I went to see if I could find it.

On Oct. 13, 1773, a French astronomer named Charles Messier discovered the "whirlpool galaxy," also known as Messier 51, or M51. Charles Messier was scanning the sky for objects that could confuse comet hunters when he catalogued the galaxy as M51. However, Messier wasn't able to see the spiral structure, and he didn't identify it as a galaxy. Seventy-two years later, another astronomer named William Parsons saw the whirlpool shape, but he thought it was a spiral nebula. Eventually, Edwin Hubble found out that M51 and other features like it were actually galaxies.

¡SE ACERCA EL MARATÓN MESSIER!
Para todo aquel que estrena su primer telescopio, existe una emoción por empezar a explorar el cielo y asombrarse con las maravillas del cielo profundo, pero esto resulta muy difícil si no tenemos idea de hacia dónde buscar las nebulosas, cúmulos y galaxias más famosas.
Lo recomendable es empezar a familiarizarse con la bóveda celeste reconociendo las constelaciones, las estrellas más destacadas y estudiando la ubicación de los objetos celestes más brillantes.
Por suerte, existe el catálogo Messier: un listado que suma más de 100 nebulosas, cúmulos y galaxias incluidos en un trabajo que inició un célebre cazador de cometas francés, de nombre Charles Messier.
En cada oportunidad, Messier observaba el cielo y cualquier manchón de luz borrosa que encontraba, anotaba sus coordenadas. En cuestión de minutos u horas, el movimiento propio del visitante celeste delataba su naturaleza: ¡Un cometa nuevo! Messier descubrió cerca de 20 cometas a lo largo de su vida, pero, entre tantos cometas, había algunos objetos rebeldes, cuya conducta no era la de un cometa. Pasaban las horas y los días ¡y no se movían! ¿De qué se trataba?
Y, ¿cómo es que el registro de estos objetos llevó el día de hoy a miles de aficionados de la astronomía alrededor del mundo a buscar, en una sola noche, los 110 objetos que conforman el catálogo Messier?

Charles Messier
Charles Messier (French: [me.sje]; 26 June 1730 – 12 April 1817) was a French astronomer most notable for publishing an astronomical catalogue consisting of nebulae and star clusters that came to be known as the 110 "Messier objects". The purpose of the catalogue was to help astronomical observers, in particular comet hunters such as himself, distinguish between permanent and transient visually diffuse objects in the sky.
Biography
Messier was born in Badonviller in the Lorraine region of France, being the tenth of twelve children of Françoise B. Grandblaise and Nicolas Messier, a Court usher. Six of his brothers and sisters died while young and in 1741, his father died. Charles' interest in astronomy was stimulated by the appearance of the spectacular, great six-tailed comet in 1744 and by an annular solar eclipse visible from his hometown on 25 July 1748.
In 1751 he entered the employ of Joseph Nicolas Delisle, the astronomer of the French Navy, who instructed him to keep careful records of his observations. Messier's first documented observation was that of the Mercury transit of 6 May 1753.
