The Crusaders were an American music group popular in the early 1970s known for their amalgamated jazz, pop, and soul sound. Since 1961, forty albums have been credited to the group (some live and compilations), 19 of which were recorded under the name "The Jazz Crusaders" (1961–1970).
History
In 1960, following the demise of a few short-lived Houston-based groups called The Swingsters and the Nite Hawks, Joe Sample (piano), Stix Hooper (drums), Wilton Felder (saxophone), and Wayne Henderson (trombone), relocated to Los Angeles, CA. After changing their name to "The Jazz Crusaders," the group signed with Pacific Jazz Records, where they would remain throughout the 1960s. Employing a two-manned front-line horn section (trombone and tenor saxophone), the group's sound was rooted in hard bop, with an emphasis on R&B and soul.
The group shortened their name to "The Crusaders" in 1971, and adopted a jazz-funk style. They also incorporated the electric bass and electric guitar into their music. Bass guitarist Robert "Pops" Popwell and guitarist Larry Carlton joined the band, and featured on the group's albums throughout most of the 1970s. With this new style came increased crossover appeal, and the group's recordings started to appear on the Billboard pop charts. The height of the group's commercial success came with 1979's Street Life, with Randy Crawford as featured singer, which peaked at No.18 on the pop album charts and the title track from the album made the Top 10 on the R&B chart and No.36 on Billboard′s Hot 100 chart.
The Crusaders is a 2001Italian television mini-series (Crociati) made into a color feature film written by Andrea Porporati and directed by Dominique Othenin-Girard. The movie shows in English. Also known as Die Kreuzritter (Germany).
Plot
In the 11th century three men flee from an Italian city and make their way to the Holy Land to take part in the First Crusade (AD 1096-1099).
The Crusaders was an organization founded to promote the repeal of prohibition in the United States. Prominent Crusaders included Alfred Sloan, Jr., Sewell Avery, Cleveland Dodge, and Wallage Alexander.
The organization was founded in May 1929 as a local Cleveland group under the leadership of Fred G. Clark, who later said they were motivated by the St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago, an outbreak of violence between rival bootleggers. At the start of 1930, the organization decided to organize young men nationwide. They eventually claimed membership of one million, though the claim is dubious. The organization had serious financial problems by the fall of 1931 and was never significant nationally. In Michigan, it drew its membership largely from the ranks of young, male Republicans and worked to elect "wet" Republicans to offices at all levels of government. One account of the organization by a proponent of prohibition said its membership was made up of the sons of members of the Association Against the Prohibition Amendment.
"Goin' Down" is the song by British singer-songwriter, Melanie C. Written by Chisholm, Julian Gallagher and Richard Stannard for her debut solo album Northern Star (1999). The song was produced by Marius De Vries and received a mixed reception from music critics. The song was released as the first single in the third quarter of 1999 and reached the top ten in the United Kingdom, where it became her second top five single. It reached the top twenty in Australia and the top fifty in Canada. In the UK the single sold 92,645 copies, becoming the 179th best selling single of 1999. Its music video was banned by some music television stations due to its violent content and offensive language.
Music video
The music video was shot in Los Angeles in July of 1999 the video sees Melanie with a short, blonde, spikey crop (it is shorter than on the CD-cover). She is seen dancing and jumping intensely with a microphone wearing a plaid skirt. There are scenes of people dancing in a big club-like warehouse with policeman driving outside, as they are seen trying to get in. Melanie is in the club throughout the whole video with wind and some water vapor being sprayed towards her in slow motion. Joc is shown driving an antique Pontiac that has a Cadillac label on the side.
Awake is the second studio album by the rock band Godsmack, released on October 31, 2000. It features the song "Goin' Down", which first appeared on the band's first studio recording All Wound Up. This was the only Godsmack album to feature drummer Tommy Stewart.
Since the mid-2000s, the songs "Sick of Life" and "Awake" have been extensively used for the United States Navy's "Accelerate Your Life" commercials.
Recording
The band opted to convert a warehouse in Haverhill into a makeshift studio, rather than use a more traditional studio setting. According to Sully Erna, the band just didn't want to move into any luxurious studio, because they wanted to keep the edge on for writing and "not get too far away from what we're all about". So they just stayed in the slums rather than moving into luxury.
Erna says the results show in the music's "tougher" sound, however it has a very raw edge to it. It's not very polished," he says. "But it still has a lot of good grooves, and it still has a lot of power."
Lyrically, "Goin' Down" describes a man who's relationship had ended, and attempts to "end it all" by leaping into the river to be dragged away in the current. He almost immediately regrets the decision and comes to a self-realization, before coming to shore in New Orleans to partake in its "swingin' scenes". It features energetic, rapid lead vocals by Micky Dolenz, and big band influences that are melded into the pop song, with the arrangements organized by jazz musician Shorty Rogers.

STREET LIFE Randy Crawford & the Crusaders I still hang around neither lost nor found Hear the lonely sound of music in the night Nights are always bright That's all that's left for me, yeah I play the street life Because there's no place I can go Street life, it's the only way I know Street life And there's a thousand cards to play Until you play your life away You dress and walk and talk You're who you think you are Street life, you can run away from time Street life, for a nickel, for a dime Street life, but you better not get old Or you're gonna feel the cold There's always love for sale A grown up fairy tale Prince charming always smiles Behind a silver spoon And if you keep t young Your song is always sung Your love will pay your way beneath the silver moon Street life, street life, street life, oh street life...
