BC neighbours "fed up" with luxury short-term rental home's parties, noises, tour buses
Residents in an Upper Mission neighbourhood of Kelowna, B.C., are pleading with the city to help shut down what they call a problem short-term rental home.
"I’ll be frank with you, I’m fed up,” said Dave Montpetit, who lives on Viewcrest Court. “Parties going on, we had a tour bus show up and drop people off. We had abusive tenants in the house that were renting it, they were swearing and intimidating and yelling at the neighbours.”
Montpetit is far from alone as numerous residents on the street told Global News they are fed up.
Called 'Infiniti Villa,' the home has been operating as a short-term rental for three years. It’s listed on numerous platforms at more than $2,000 a night during peak season.
But as Klaudia van Emmerik reports, the city says there's nothing it can do.

People with drug addictions living in BC long-term care homes raises red flags
People who have suffered severe brain injuries as a result of B.C.'s ongoing illicit drug crisis are being cared for in long-term care facilities, straining the abilities of staff who are more used to dealing with elderly patients than younger drug-addicted people.
“But what we’re seeing is a different population now more affected by drug use,” Terry Lake, the CEO of the B.C. Care Providers Association, said.
“Brain injury due to chronic drug use. And there’s no other place in some communities for these folks to be placed. And so that is a difference we’re seeing now is an increase in this population that’s a little bit different than the conditions we saw before.”

Vancouver Tim Hortons removes tables and chairs from dining area
It’s standing room only in much of the busy Tim Hortons on Keefer Street in Vancouver after the coffee shop recently removed tables and chairs.
“I wasn’t really surprised,” customer Sasha Van Beek told Global News Tuesday. “Sometimes if the homeless people are there they won’t get customers so they probably took them out just to try to get customers again.”
“It’s just another way to keep people out you know, and keep them moving,” added customer Raven Stephenson.
Elsewhere in the city, businesses are implementing drastic anti-crime measures. Global's Kristen Robinson reports.

Parents Gail Skin and James Schweder were finally able to get some sleep on Sunday night after their daughter was found safe.
Oaklynn Schweder, six, went missing from the Burns Lake area in North Central B.C. around 6 p.m. on Thursday.
She was found on Sunday evening in a previously searched forested area between her residence and Skin Tyee band office.
Skin said when they received the phone call that Oaklynn was found, she jumped into the air screaming, "They found her! They f***ing found her!"
Oaklynn is non-verbal but she can mimic words and investigators think she wandered off and then couldn't find her way back.
Global's Aaron McArthur has more on the family's reunion and how Oaklynn is doing.
