A dark ride or ghost train is an indoor amusement ride on which riders in guided vehicles travel through specially lit scenes that typically contain animation, sound, music, and special effects.
Dark rides do not necessarily lack illumination; Disney's "It's a Small World" is an example of a brightly lit dark ride. Rather, all dark rides are enclosed in order to remove the variable of non-artificial illumination from the ride experience; moreover, most dark rides use both emphatic lighting and the contrast of darkness for dramatic effect. Selective use of darkness further helps hide ride mechanisms that would otherwise be exposed.
The Sydney Ghost Train fire was a fire on the night of 9 June 1979 at Luna Park Sydney. The fire destroyed the amusement park's ghost train, and killed six children and one adult. Inadequate fire-fighting measures and low staffing caused the fire to completely destroy the ride, which was first constructed in 1931, and had been transported from Glenelg, South Australia to Milsons Point, New South Wales during 1934 and 1935.
Although electrical faults and arson by unknown figures have been claimed, the exact cause of the fire could not be determined by a coronial inquiry. The coroner also ruled that, while the actions of Luna Park's management and staff before and during the fire (in particular their choosing not to follow advice on the installation of a sprinkler system in the ride) breached their duty of care, charges of criminal negligence should not be laid. The case was reopened in 1987: no new findings were made, although the police investigation and coronial inquiry were criticised. The fire forced the closure of Luna Park until 1982, when it reopened under a new name and new owners.

The Gong Show (1978) NBC Burbank - RARE SOUNDCHECK with Milton Delugg and the Band With A Thug
When Chuck Barris' "The Gong Show" had its network daytime run, the show was taped at NBC Burbank - and here is a copy of a VTR air copy with the first 2 minutes featuring the band warming up on-stage in this episode while Chuck can be heard muttering about not "caring about that stuff". Hear the trumpeter (I'll assume it was Bob Findley) warming up to "The Peanut Vendor" with the rhythm section playing a few bars together of a song I can't think of (let me know, folks) at the moment.
That's Milt Delugg whining about "That's why we lost Miami". You'll hear him in the first act shouting "Go get 'em, Arthur!".

Let reflection of your eyes Shine on your face All alone in the corner You don't understand There is an exit But you already know it With puzzles by dozen You try to build a story (La la la la) You're traveling in your ghost train (La la la la) Feeling too much pain (La la la la) With that look upon the past (La la la la) I hope it's the last One of the flammes in you Has gone out The rivers are full You're loosing your mind, Your time to burn Pictures and moments You failed to discover the answers He kept lost in his head Your heart is the only one to know Chorus Everybody has a dream Yours is a fairy tale Life is a pleasure You let it in one way But today Don't stay at home Brake this wall
