Between Two Chinas: Fujian Province
With provinces as big as some countries, there's a lot to talk about when it comes to China. Take Fujian for instance. It's almost exactly as big as North Korea but with nearly twice the population, so it could very well be a country of its own. But its not; it's just a small portion of the Chinese nation, and because of that hardly anyone has ever heard of it. How about we change that? Let's spend just a few minutes and talk about the Chinese province of Fujian.

Looking for a Malaysian ANCESTOR's home in Anxi, Fujian | EP6, S2
I am on a special mission this time - helping a subscriber from Penang to visit his ancestor home!
Uncle Lim is from Penang Malaysia, and he was asking me if I can pay a visit to his ancestor home in Anxi, Fujian. He sent me a few photos and the name of the village, and told me that his grandpa is from there but he has never been there.
Since I am in Quanzhou which is not far from Anxi, I decided to pay a visit, so will I found it?

China's Fujian Province dives into sustainable, high-tech fishing
If you visit fish farms in Ningde, a coastal city in southeastern Fujian Province, you will see lines of interconnected floating rafts – this is how local fishermen have been farming seafood for decades.
Traditionally, the rafts were made of wood and styrofoam, which can become damaged with time.
So, it can be dangerous for the fishermen to walk on them, and the polystyrene can pollute the sea.
In recent years, the local government has invested in upgrading the facility.
Fujian's ambition extends further offshore, as the province is working to expand marine aquaculture farming into the open sea.
When 59-year-old Yan Jiaqiang started working as a fisherman more than three decades ago, he couldn't have imagined using surveillance cameras for deep sea fishing.

Driving Downtown Fuzhou | The City Of Banyan Tree | Fujian Province, China | 福州 | 榕城
Fuzhou, the capital city of southeast China's Fujian Province, is nicknamed Rongcheng, literally translated as "The City of the Banyan Tree."
The origin of this nickname dates back about 900 years ago to the Northern Song Dynasty.
At that time, the city frequently suffered from flooding and summer heat. In order to provide a better environment for the citizens, the local governor, Zhang Boyu, advocated that "the city should be green, and no parasols should be needed in summer."
He made policies encouraging each family in the city to plant the banyan tree. And so, Fuzhou became known as "The City of the Banyan Tree."
Today, the largest banyan tree in Fuzhou is growing in Fuzhou National Park. It is said that the tree was planted during Zhang Boyu's rule, hence it is about 900 years ol...

When 59-year-old Yan Jiaqiang started working as a fisherman more than three decades ago, he couldn't have imagined using surveillance cameras for deep sea fishing.
The veteran fisherman now works at an aquaculture farming platform called Mintou 1.
It covers 60,000 cubic meters of sea water that's used for fish farming, mostly large yellow croakers.
This method resembles a natural marine habitat for the fish, and is hoped to increase production profits.
The platform is expected to produce 600 tonnes of big yellow croaker every year, with an annual output value of about 14 million US dollars.
Fujian's marine economy reached 140 billion US dollars last year, accounting for one fifth of the province's total GDP.
It's an example of how high-quality development can help build a more sustainable and technologically advanced fishing industry.

It is said that the tree was planted during Zhang Boyu's rule, hence it is about 900 years old.
The giant banyan tree has a height of 20 meters and the ground projection area of the canopy is more than 1,330 square meters. Called the "King of Banyan Trees" by locals, the tree, especially its spectacular canopy, is also a paradise for birds.
As a fig species, the banyan starts its life as an epiphyte, which means a plant that grows on another plant.
It will envelope the host tree, putting considerable pressure on the latter, before eventually killing it. According to experts, the Banyan King is likely to be two trees growing into one.
As a result, when spring comes, about half of its crown sprouts first, and when the old leaves gradually turn to yellowish and red, the other half of the crown begins to sprout.
Because the banyan tree has no cling roots that reach the ground, the forest park's craftsmen have built concrete columns to support its trunk.
