The Shocking Reality of the Eucharist
It's easy to fall into a routine and lose sight of the little miracles all around us. Unfortunately, it is even easy to fall into a routine and lose sight of the greatest miracle of all, happening right in front of us.
Today, Fr. Mike discusses the greatest gift God has ever given man: himself. Christ offered his body at the Last Supper, he sacrificed it on the Cross, and he continues to give himself to us at each and every Mass. Fr. Mike explains the shocking reality of what it means to eat Jesus' body and drink Jesus' blood. This flesh, the Incarnate Word of God, redeemed the world. His body and blood are what save our fallen human nature and they are what give us life. This miracle, occurring each time we go to Mass, gives us an opportunity to partake in redemption, unite with our Savi...

How the Eucharist Changed My Life
Why do less than 30% of Catholics believe in the Real Presence? It seems like many have forgotten that Jesus gave his flesh for the life of the world.
Today, Fr. Mike reminds us of the gift of the Eucharist and shares the way it transformed his own life. It is the heart of our faith, our spiritual nourishment, the bread that we live for, and the teaching worth dying for.

Bishop Barron on Catholics Misunderstanding the Eucharist
Explore a collection of my resources on the Eucharist here: https://www.wordonfire.org/presence/
It’s hard to describe how angry I feel after reading the latest Pew Forum study, which reveals only one-third of Catholics agree with the Church that the Eucharist is actually the Body and Blood of Christ. This should be a wake-up call to all of us in the Church—priests, bishops, religious, laypeople, catechists, parents, everyone—that we need to pick up our game when it comes to communicating even the most basic doctrines of the Church. Bishop Barron, Ben Shapiro, The Eucharist
Friends, I'm grateful to my friend Ben Shapiro for inviting me back on his show to discuss the Eucharist, Christianity’s Jewish roots, and the Kantian reduction of religion to ethics. The Eucharist has deep Jewish roots, and when we divorce the sacrament from these roots and tradition, it becomes easier to see it as only a symbol. But we must remember there is an embodied quality to the Eucharist and to religion in general.

The Meaning of the Eucharist in the Catholic Church
What is the meaning of Eucharist in the Catholic Church?
The Greek origin of the word Eucharist is eucharistia, which means "thanksgiving."
The term comes from the Last Supper when Jesus took the bread, broke it, and gave thanks (eucharistia) saying, "This is my body, which is given up for you."
When we celebrate the Mass, we recall all we have to be thankful for as a human race and as individual people. We thank God for his creation, his redemption, and his presence in our lives. We thank God for all the good things he has given to us. We are grateful, especially, for the gift of God's Son and the life that Jesus sacrificed forus.
The term Eucharist is used to refer to the bread and wine that become Christ's true body and blood of Christ in the Sacrament of the Eucharist, which th...

The Christian ritual of Holy Communion is introduced. Communion means, simply, ‘togetherness’ and this is a ritual to show the togetherness of Christians and God. The Last Supper was Jesus’ last meal before he died and he shared two signs with his followers: Bread as a symbol for his body being broken, and wine as a symbol for his blood being spilled when he was crucified.
Eleven-year-old Nathan has been to classes to learn about the meaning of the bread and wine before he was considered ready to join in with Holy Communion in his Church of England. Kiera and Santos, both 8, are Roman Catholic Christians. We see them getting ready for their first communion – an important step for Catholics. Kiera has a new white dress for her first communion, and a party afterwards. Blessing the bread, in Catholic belief, turns it into the body of Christ. This is called a ‘sacrament.’
This clip is from the BBC series My Life, My Religion. In this series we find out about living the Christian faith through the eyes of young practicing Christians Nathan (aged 11), Kirsty (aged 13) Kiera (aged 8) and Santos (aged 8).

Teaching Religious Studies?
Before showing the clip, the class could have a little tasting session: Bring some different kinds of fresh bread to the class (e.g. pitta, a French stick, some croissants, wholemeal bread, a fruity naan or whatever is easy to get from your local store – remember to check for allergies). Pupils could taste a little bit of each kind of bread and then discuss and make a list of all the people who you could thank for this bread – can they think of 5 ‘thank yous’ for each kind of bread?
What does the bread of Holy Communion mean to these young Christians? What do they remember when they receive this bread? Communion is a way for Christians to say ‘thank you’ to God for Jesus’ life and death. Ask children to sum up what they have learned by writing into a line drawing of a loaf of bread and a wine cup what these two symbols mean for Christian children.
This topic will be relevant to teaching Religious Education at KS2 or KS3 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and National 2 or 3 in Scotland.

This miracle, occurring each time we go to Mass, gives us an opportunity to partake in redemption, unite with our Savior, and live a sacramental life.

The term Eucharist is used to refer to the bread and wine that become Christ's true body and blood of Christ in the Sacrament of the Eucharist, which the Church has called the source and summit of Christian life.
"The Eucharist is the heart and the summit of the Church's life, for in it Christ associates his Church and all her members with his sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving offered once for all on the cross to his Father; by this sacrifice he pours out the graces of salvation on his Body which is the Church." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1407)
