The National Assembly (French:Assemblée nationale; pronounced:[a.sɑ̃.ble.na.sjɔˈnal]) is the lower house of the bicameralParliament of France under the Fifth Republic. The upper house is the Senate ("Sénat"). The National Assembly's members are known as députés (French pronunciation:[depyˈte]; "delegate" or "envoy" in English; the word is an etymologicalcognate of the English word "deputy", usually "adjoint" in French).
There are 577 députés, each elected by a single-member constituency through a two-round voting system. 289 seats are therefore required for a majority. The assembly is presided over by a president (currently Claude Bartolone), normally from the largest party represented, assisted by vice-presidents from across the represented political spectrum. The term of the National Assembly is five years; however, the President of the Republic may dissolve the Assembly (thereby calling for new elections) unless he has dissolved it in the preceding twelve months. This measure is becoming rarer since the 2000 referendum reduced the presidential term from seven to five years: a President usually has a majority elected in the Assembly two months after him, and it would be useless for him to dissolve it for those reasons.
The current National Assembly, formed following elections held on 4, 5, and 6 December 2002, has a total of 34 members. 25 members are elected in single member constituencies using the simple majority (or First-past-the-post) system. The remaining 9 members are elected through a system of proportional representation. Members serve five-year terms.
Note: The United Opposition (UO) was a coalition of three political parties - the Seychelles Party (Party Seselwa, PS), Seychelles National Movement (SNM), and the National Alliance Party (NAP). In 1994, its member parties merged and contested the 1998 elections as a political party under the same name. Soon after, the United Opposition was renamed Seychelles National Party (SNP).
The current National Assembly, formed following elections held on 1 July 2012, has a total of 150 elected members who serve five-year terms. The electoral system is a mixed member majoritarian (MMM) system. Ninety deputies are elected in 35 single and multi-member districts (departments) by simple majority (plurality) party block vote (PBV, winning party list takes all seats in the district). The remaining 60 seats are filled proportionally based on the national distribution of votes. Voters have a single ballot and vote for the party list. This single ballot is applied to both the majoritarian and proportional vote counts.
According to Chapter Five of the Constitution of Afghanistan, "the National Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan as the highest legislative organ is the manifestation of the will of its people and represents the whole nation. Every member of the National Assembly takes into judgment the general welfare and supreme interests of all people of Afghanistan at the time of casting their vote".

After moment of silence, politicians sing French national anthem to honor attack victims | Mashable
Members of France’s National Assembly held a moment of silence for the victims of last week's attacks before raising their voices in a show of national unity on Tuesday, joining together in a rendition of the French national anthem in the government chambers. The National Assembly is made up of 577 delegates. The tribute is just one of many following the series of deadly attacks that rattled the country.
The names of the 17 victims — from the shooting at the satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo, the shooting of a policewoman in southern Paris, and the standoff at a kosher market — were read out. After the touching tribute, Prime Minister Manuel Valls addressed the assembly, making a clear distinction between the perpetrators of the attack and the Muslim population.
