Residents have a four-week required rotation at the Office of the Medical Examiner of Nashville and Davidson County. Residents can expect to perform one autopsy per day while on the rotation. Residents interested in forensic pathology careers can arrange electives and research projects with the Medical Examiner’s staff.

Over her 25-year career, Mary performed thousands of autopsies, appeared on Dateline and 48 Hours, and received recognition from the National Transportation Safety Board, the NYS Senate, and the National Organization for Women.
In retirement, Mary has published many nonfiction stories, sharing her experiences both in and out of the morgue. Mary also teaches writing, and serves as an Assistant Editor for Stone Canoe.
