The National Convention was an alliance of political parties in South-West Africa. It was formed in 1971 when the International Court of Justice ruled that South African rule in Namibia was illegal, and it consisted of various pro-independence groups and parties, including the South West Africa National Union (SWANU), the South West Africa Peoples Organization (SWAPO) and the National Unity Democratic Organisation (NUDO) formed the National Convention as a united front against South African rule.Clemens Kapuuo was its first head.

The 1988 Republican National Convention of the Republican Party of the United States was held in the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana from August 15 to August 18, 1988. It was the second time that a major party held its convention in one of the five states known as the Deep South, coming on the heels of the 1988 Democratic National Convention, which was held in Atlanta, Georgia. Much of the impetus for holding the convention in the Superdome came from the Louisiana Republican National Committeewoman Virginia Martinez of New Orleans, who lobbied on behalf of her adopted home city as the convention site as a member of the RNC Executive Committee.
Sherman died days before the election, and was replaced as Republican vice-presidential nominee by Nicholas M. Butler of New York.
Party power struggle
This convention marked the beginning of a split in the party, resulting from a power struggle between incumbent Taft and former president Theodore Roosevelt. This was the first year for Republican primaries. Though Roosevelt had endorsed Taft as his successor, Taft's perceived drift to the right had alienated Roosevelt, who launched a challenge to Taft's re-nomination. Roosevelt overwhelmingly won the primaries — winning 9 out of 12 states (8 by landslide margins). Taft won only the state of Massachusetts (by a small margin); he even lost his home state of Ohio to Roosevelt. Senator Robert M. La Follette, a reformer, won two states. Through the primaries, Senator LaFollette won a total of 36 delegates; President Taft won 48 delegates; and Roosevelt won 278 delegates. However 36 states did not hold primaries, but instead selected delegates via state conventions.
Nixon decided not to re-select his 1960 running mate Henry Cabot Lodge Jr and U.S. House of RepresentativesHouse Minority Leader, Gerald R. Ford of Michigan, proposed New York CityMayorJohn V. Lindsay for Vice President, but Nixon turned instead to another perceived moderate, MarylandGovernorSpiro T. Agnew. Agnew, former Baltimore County Executive in the Baltimore City suburbs (1963-1967), and since Governor of Maryland, had come to Republican leaders and Nixon's attention when he summoned several Black and Negro civic, religious and political leaders in Baltimore City to the local State Office Building complex, following the disastrous April 1968 urban riots which enveloped Black sections of East and West Baltimore, along with the rest of the nation, after the assassination of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in Memphis, Tennessee. Agnew complained of the Black leaders' lack of support after a number of what he perceived to be positive projects, programs and support by his Republican administration for the minority communities in the City. Agnew's biting comments caused many in the audience to walk out.
Florida (officially Florida Este) is a mostly residential barrio of the Vicente López Partido in the northern suburbs of Greater Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is principally a middle-class neighbourhood and is located between the barrios of Olivos and Vicente López, also in the same partido (department).
Location
The city is located between The Autopista Pascual Palazzo (mostly known as "Panamericana" or "Acceso Norte") highway and the Maipú Avenue. The Acceso Norte splits the district into two neighborhoods: Florida Este (from Panamericana to Maipú Avenue) and Florida Oeste (from Panamericana to De los Constituyentes Avenue).
Florida is served by the Mitre Line, which provides easy access to the city of Buenos Aires. Due to the railway lines, Este and Oeste neighborhoods are also called "Florida Mitre" or "Florida Belgrano". Its main commercial area is centered on General San Martín avenue.
History
Florida was founded in 1891 when the Buenos Aires and Rosario Railway opened a station in the section from Belgrano that then reached Bartolomé Mitre, Borges and San Isidro. Some versions state that the station (and subsequently the village) was named "Florida" to commemorate a victory over Spanish army in the Paraje La Florida of Alto Perú on May 25, 1814, during the War of Independence.
Florida is the first studio album by American hip hop producer Diplo, released in 2004 on the Big Dada label. In 2014, it was re-released as F10rida, with 10 extra tracks added, plus bonus commentary.
