Eureka Orthos: Final Fantasy XIV's most obscure (and insane) story
I can't believe that, for all I've looked around the internet, nobody's talking about this or even making its lore more accessible. And I absolutely adore how insanely deep this story gets, so I'm not gonna take it! Today, we're going into all the lore about Eureka Orthos, putting it out for the world to see. And that includes making sure even the people who don't watch this video can take it all in.

Andrej Kristan - A Paradox of Hart's Fallible Finality (2017.11.23)
§ Graz Jurisprudence Talks §
The goal of this talk is to offer a redefinition of the concept of the fallibility of final judicial decisions. Its standard understanding, based on Hart’s work, is far more problematic than is usually assumed. The author intends to show that the usual understanding gives rise to a contradiction. Namely, that it is (sometimes) legally correct to do that which is not legally correct. He will then briefly test three methods of solving the problem and conclude that none of them speaks in favour of distinguishing between the finality and infallibility of judicial decisions. Accordingly, he will re-examine Hart’s motivations for embracing that distinction and identify a misstep in his reasoning.

Using Modern Languages to Parse Ancient Ones: a Test on Old English
Authors: Luca Brigada Villa and Martina Giarda
Abstract: In this paper we test the parsing performances of a multilingual parser on Old English data using different sets of languages, alone and combined with the target language, to train the models. We compare the results obtained by the models and we analyze more in deep the annotation of some peculiar syntactic constructions of the target language, providing plausible linguistic explanations of the errors made even by the best performing models.

NL Research Seminars #29| Making Byzantine Consensus Live
In this talk, Alexey Gotsman from the IMDEA Software Institute, Madrid, Spain gave a talk about making Byzantine consensus live.
Byzantine consensus and its generalization to Byzantine state-machine replication (SMR) lie at the core of blockchains, where they ensure the consistency of replicated state even in the presence of malicious replicas. Byzantine SMR protocols often guarantee safety under all circumstances and liveness only under synchrony. However, guaranteeing liveness even under this assumption is challenging, and this has often been a source of subtle bugs. To improve this situation, I present a modular framework to facilitate the design of provably live and efficient Byzantine SMR protocols. Our framework relies on a *view* abstraction generated by a special *synchronizer* pr...

Fedcoin in 3 Years, or 30? + What is the Federal Reserve?
Jump to the News: https://youtu.be/F8HPlsCYHUA?t=736
Is it possible for us to see a #Fedcoin in 3 Years? Is it possible to see within 20 to 30 years? Let's discuss!
What is the Federal Reserve? Who own the Federal Reserve, and is it organized? The Federal Reserve is organized by the Federal Reserve Board of Governors (Board of Governors), and the 12 Reserve Banks operates within its own particular geographic area, or District, of the United States. While Federal Reserve Board of Governors members are appointed by the President (with the advice and consent of the Senate), the Federal Reserve has frequent communication with executive branch and congressional officials, its decisions are made independently of any branch of government.

O-MESS IX: Pieces of the Planetary Nebula Puzzle with Gaia by Nick Chornay
Central stars of planetary nebulae (CSPNe) are some of the rarest objects in the Gaia Hertzsprung Russell (HR) diagram, tracing the brief but remarkable journey from the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) to the white dwarf phase of stellar evolution.
Our framework relies on a *view* abstraction generated by a special *synchronizer* primitive to drive the protocol. I present a simple specification of a view synchronizer and its bounded-space implementation under partial synchrony. I also explain how we applied our framework to produce the first rigorous liveness proof for the algorithmic core of the seminal PBFT protocol.
Alexey Gotsman is an Associate Research Professor at the IMDEA Software Institute, where he holds an ERC Starting Grant. Alexey obtained his PhD from the University of Cambridge, UK. His research interests are at the intersection of distributed systems and formal verification.

Central stars of planetary nebulae (CSPNe) are some of the rarest objects in the Gaia Hertzsprung Russell (HR) diagram, tracing the brief but remarkable journey from the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) to the white dwarf phase of stellar evolution. Recent data from the Gaia mission offer a new opportunity to better understand these objects and the nebulae that surround them, with astrometric and photometric data providing crucial distance indicators and hinting at physical parameters such as ages, masses, temperature, and even binarity. In this talk we introduce our approach to automatically identifying CSPNe in the Gaia catalogue. We show how the resulting sample compares to recent post-AGB evolutionary tracks, and demonstrate a relationship between the positions of CSPNe in the HR diagram and their kinematics and nebular abundances. We present follow up work on identifying close binary central star candidates from photometric variability in Gaia, and on using the Gaia parallaxes together with ground-based narrowband imagery to investigate the local Milky Way [OIII] planetary nebula luminosity function.
