Photographic processing is the chemical means by which photographic film and paper is treated after photographic exposure to produce a negative or positive image. Photographic processing transforms the latent image into a visible image, makes this permanent and renders it insensitive to light.
All processes based upon the gelatin-silver process are similar, regardless of the film or paper's manufacturer. Exceptional variations include instant films such as Polaroid and thermally developed films. Kodachrome required Kodak's proprietary K-14 process. Kodachrome film production ceased in 2009, and K-14 processing is no longer available as of December 30, 2010.Ilfochrome materials use the dye destruction process.
Common processes
All film and paper is treated in a series of chemical baths, which are closely monitored and maintained at a specific temperature and treatment time. Developer baths are most sensitive to deviations from the standard time and temperature of treatment; other baths are less sensitive.
If you've ever thought:

The Gelatin Silver Process - Photographic Processes Series - Chapter 10 of 12
PLEASE NOTE, AN UPDATED VERSION OF THIS VIDEO IS AVAILABLE ON OUR CHANNEL.
The gelatin silver process was introduced at the end of the nineteenth century and dominated black-and-white photography in the twentieth century. The paper or film used to make gelatin silver prints and negatives is coated with an emulsion that contains gelatin and silver salts. Gelatin silver prints and negatives are developed out rather than printed out, which means that exposure to light registers a latent image that becomes visible only when developed in a chemical bath. This process requires shorter printing times than earlier printed-out processes such as salted paper prints and albumen prints. George Eastman’s introduction of flexible roll film and the Brownie camera revolutionized photographic practice an...

George Eastman’s introduction of flexible roll film and the Brownie camera revolutionized photographic practice and industry, putting photography into the hands of the masses for the first time. This process is responsible for all the black and white, color and motion pictures produced in the 20th century with analog materials.

Professional photographer Jacopo Brancati is inviting us for a photographic development class his Dark Room, a workshop with by Charlotte Longepe, filmed in February 2021.
Biography
After his studies in Political Sciences at the University of Genoa (Italy), Jacopo Brancati turned to photography as a means of ethnological study. Since then, he focused his work on seafaring people in their environment under different historical and geographical perspectives in cooperation with maritime museums (Genoa, Dunkirk, Finland). At the same time, he devotes a part of his activity to architecture, with the aim of explaining the « spirit of places »
In his photography, light depicts with gentle, precise strokes the psychology and the emotions of the people he runs into during his voyages. He is represented by Infine Arts and Bridgeman Art Library.

From the ancient discovery of the camera obscura to the 18th century mechanical devices used to create silhouettes such as the physionotrace, this initial chapter explores the inventions and inventors that preceded photography. It recreates the experiments of Johann Schulze who proved the light sensitivity of certain silver salts and Thomas Wedgwood’s early attempts to make photographic images. These early pioneers contributed to the discovery of photography in 1839.
This project is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, grant number MA-10-13-0194.
Photographs preserve our memories. With stories told by photographs, you can always go back to your past and relive your favorite moments. But if you ever wondered about how photographs are produced on films, you better know that it is the chemistry that has paved the way for pictorial reproduction. In today's video, Chemniverse tries to draw a picture of how chemistry is related to the photographic process.

George Eastman’s introduction of flexible roll film and the Brownie camera revolutionized photographic practice and industry, putting photography into the hands of the masses for the first time. This process is responsible for all the black and white, color and motion pictures produced in the 20th century with analog materials.
This project is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, grant number MA-10-13-0194.
The stable development of these industries has driven the growth of the film capacitor market. With the development of technology, the replacement cycle of electronics, home appliances, communications ...
