In this video, Renee Hoste, Ph.D., discusses how an eating disorder affects the way a person thinks.
The University of Michigan Comprehensive Eating Disorders Program provides individualized, compassionate, evidence-based care for patients age 8-24 with eating disorders.
We recognize that eating disorders are complicated illnesses caused by genetic, psychological and psychosocial factors, and that neither our patients nor their families are responsible for having developed an eating disorder.
Our program was designed to honor the importance of families in the recovery process, and is built on the principles of family-based treatment, also known as the Maudsley Approach, adapted for both partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment settings.
We provide a safe and therapeutic environment where nutritional restoration and behavior change can occur. Our focus is to help patients, families, and others recognize their own strengths and empower them to take control of symptoms.

Eating disorders thrive in secrecy. The more you are alone with your eating disorder without anybody knowing what you are going through the more in A trap you are. This is exactly what your eating disorder wants, to stay in that comfortable zone when it can just keep on dominating over you. But if you open up to a loved one or a close friend or family member it is the first step to recovery.
Here are some points of why opening up about your eating disorder is a good idea:
You can have support and someone to talk to.
You take power off from your eating disorder into your own hands.
A problem shared is a problem halved.
You feel you are not lying anymore.
The pressure is off from being perfect.
You can be who you truly are without any mask.
You can may feel a huge relief if you share it witho someone. It takes the weight off your shoulders.
In this video I talk about my experience how I told my boyfriend I have and eating disorder…two times :P…and I share how it happened, how it felt, what I said and what happened then. I hope it will give you encourage to open up to someone too. You do not have to go through it alone.
------------------------------------------------
I am here to share my experience and what I learned after having bulimia and orthorexia and finally being able to fully recover. I share my knowledge, stories and offer support and encouragement to you if you need it. I am not a trained eating disorder recovery, mental health or medical professional. So please know that I do not have all the right answers and you are responsible for your own health at all times. Thank you for watching my videos and I hope they help you in some way :) Please subscribe to my channel if you do not want to miss any future videos!
