The Night is the fifth and final studio album by the alternative rock band Morphine. Completed just before the sudden July 1999 death of bass player and lead singer Mark Sandman, the album was released in February 2000. The title song is used for the ending credits for the webshow Hate By Numbers.
Night or nighttime (sp.night-time or night time) is the period of time between the sunset and the sunrise when the Sun is below the horizon.
This occurs after dusk. The opposite of night is day (or "daytime" to distinguish it from "day" as used for a 24-hour period). The start and end points of time of a night vary based on factors such as season, latitude, longitude and timezone.
At any given time, one side of the planet Earth is bathed in light from the Sun (the daytime) and the other side of the Earth is in the shadow caused by the Earth blocking the light of the sun. This shadow is called the umbra. Natural illumination is still provided by a combination of moonlight, planetary light, starlight, diffuse zodiacal light, gegenschein, and airglow. In some circumstances, bioluminescence, aurorae, and lightning can provide some illumination. The glow provided by artificial illumination is sometimes referred to as light pollution because it can interfere with observational astronomy and ecosystems.
A 24-year-old divorcee, Betty Preisser, a receptionist for a clothing manufacturer, takes some office work home. Her boss, widower Jerry Kingsley, a man of 56, drops by to pick up the documents.
Professional acquaintances but not personal ones, Betty tells Jerry of her loveless marriage to George, a musician. Jerry has a daughter about her age, Lillian, and also a spinster sister, Evelyn, who is very protective of him.
Jerry works up the nerve to invite Betty to dinner. He meets Betty's mother, Mrs. Mueller, and sister Alice, who share the apartment with Betty. Their relationship grows, but she professes to be leery of dating her employer. Jerry wonders if their age difference is really behind her reluctance. Despite this, a May–December romance between them develops.
Official - in the primary sense, someone who holds an office in an organisation, of any kind, but participating in the exercise of authority, such as in government. It may also refer to something endowed with governmental recognition or mandate, as in official language.
