In 1096, Robert de Beaumont, Count of Meulan reputed to be "the wisest man in his time between London and Jerusalem" insisted, in defiance of the laws of the church, on marrying a very young Elizabeth, he being over fifty at the time. In early 1096 Bishop Ivo, on hearing of the proposed marriage, wrote a letter banning the marriage and preventing its celebration on the grounds the two were related within prohibited degrees. In April of that year Elizabeth's father count Hugh left on Crusade, his last act being to see his daughter married to count Robert. The crusader was able to convince Pope Urban to issue a dispensation for the marriage which then went forward.
Elisabeth was overall the second child of her father; she had an elder brother named Hugh who was their father's heir, from his first marriage to Eleonore of Blois therefore Elisabeth was second inline to inheriting the county. When Elisabeth was aged two, she was joined by a brother also named Ralph; this pushed Elisabeth back to third in line. Around three years later, Elisabeth gained a further sister, Eleonore.
Vermandois was a French county, that appears in the Merovingian period. In the 10th century, it was organised around two castellan domains: St Quentin (Aisne) and Péronne (Somme). In today's times, the Vermandois county would fall in the Picardy region of northern France.
Pepin I of Vermandois, the earliest of its hereditary counts, was descended in direct male line from the emperor Charlemagne. More famous was his grandson Herbert II (902–943), a man absolutely devoid of scruples, who considerably increased the territorial power of the house of Vermandois, and kept the lawful king of France, the unlucky Charles the Simple, prisoner for six years. Herbert II was son of Herbert I, lord of Péronne and St Quentin, who was killed in 902 by an assassin in the pay of Baldwin II, Count of Flanders. His successors, Albert I, Herbert III, Albert II, Otto and Herbert IV, were not as historically significant.

Elizabeth Woodville became the ancestress of future Kings and Queens.

Eleanor of Aquitaine Queen of the World
Eleanor Of Aquitaine, a story of the most revered woman of the middle ages. A duchess in her own right with power and influence. Her life was long and at times fraught with danger. Eleanor would gain the crown and go on to become Queen of France and later England with Henry II. She was one of the most prominent women in history. Eleanor of Aquitaine was a formidable woman; her leadership, political awareness and strength of character would hold her in good stead. She was part of the crusade to the holy land. Yet, enhanced the grandeur of her birth by the honesty of her life, the purity of her morals, the flower of her virtues, and in the conduct of her blameless life, she surpassed almost all the queens of the world.

Each sister has their own story to tell and they may not have achieved the dizzying heights that their sister did, but they are all fascinating women."
