Earl of Warwick (i/ˈwɒrɪk/WORR-ik) is a title that has been created four times in British history and is one of the most prestigious titles in the peerages of the United Kingdom. The first creation came in 1088. The 14th Earl was created Duke of Warwick in 1445, a title which became extinct on his early death the following year. The most well-known Earl of this creation was the 16th Earl, who was involved in the deposition of two kings, a fact which later earned him his epithet "Warwick the Kingmaker". This creation became extinct on the death of the 17th Earl in 1499. The title was revived in 1547 for the powerful statesman John Dudley, 1st Viscount Lisle, who was later made Duke of Northumberland. The earldom was passed on during his lifetime to his eldest son, John, but both father and son were attainted in 1554. The title was recreated or restored in 1561 in favour of Ambrose, younger son of the Duke of Northumberland. However, Ambrose was childless and the earldom became extinct on his death in 1590. It was created for a third time in 1618 for Robert Rich, 3rd Baron Rich, in spite of the fact that the Rich family were not in possession of Warwick Castle. From 1673 the Earls also held the title Earl of Holland. All the titles became extinct on the death of the 8th Earl in 1759. The earldom was revived the same year in favour of Francis Greville, 1st Earl Brooke. The Greville family were in possession of Warwick Castle and the title and castle were thereby re-united for the first time in over a century. The 1759 creation is extant and currently held by Guy Greville, 9th Earl of Warwick. However, Warwick Castle was sold by the family in 1978, and they currently live in Australia.
Warwick (/ˈwɒrɪk/WORR-ik) is the county town of Warwickshire, England. The town lies upon the River Avon, 11 miles (18km) south of Coventry and just west of Leamington Spa and Whitnash with which it is conjoined. At the 2011 United Kingdom census, it had a population of 30,114, an increase from 23,350 a decade earlier.
There was human activity at Warwick as early as the Neolithic period, and constant habitation since the 6thcentury. It was a Saxon burh in the 9thcentury; Warwick Castle was established in 1068 as part of the Norman conquest of England. Warwick School claims to be the oldest boys' school in the country. The earldom of Warwick was created in 1088 and the earls controlled the town in the medieval period and built town walls, of which Eastgate and Westgate survive. The castle developed into a stone fortress and then a country house and is today a popular tourist attraction.
The Great Fire of Warwick in 1694 destroyed much of the medieval town and as a result most buildings post-date this period. Though Warwick did not become industrialised in the 19thcentury, it has experienced growth since 1801 when the population was 5,592. Racing Club Warwick F.C., founded in 1919, is based in the town. The town is administered by Warwick District Council and Warwickshire County Council has its headquarters in Warwick.
Warwick is a local government district of central Warwickshire in England. The current leader of the district council is Conservative Party member Andrew Mobbs. The council is currently controlled by the Conservative group, who hold 31 of the 46 council seats. Labour has 9 councillors, the Liberal Democrats have 2 councillors, the Green Party 1 councillor with the remaining 3 councillors sitting as independents.
The district council headquarters are in Leamington Spa. It employs more than 500 people in a four storey building near to the River Leam. The district council deal with issues such as waste management, the collection of council tax, planning/building regulations, council housing and council house repairs.

Warwick Kingmaker - Medieval England’s Most Important Man
Richard Neville, the 16th Earl of Warwick has gone down in history as Warwick Kingmaker, and he’s considered to be one of the most important, brutal yet pivotal members of medieval society. Through marriage and inheritance, Warwick would emerge in the 1450s at the heart of English politics, and would be a huge player in the Wars of the Roses. His popularity, and strength would virtually place him in control of the country for many years during this period, and he was pretty much the power behind the crown. If Kingmaker said you were going to be King, he would have made you King. In this video we look at Medieval England’s most important man, Warwick Kingmaker.

A podcast detailing the life and achievements of George Greville (1746-1816), 2nd Earl of Warwick. George was a significant patron and collector, and did more so than any other Earl of Warwick to beautify his ancient home Warwick Castle.
He amassed a significant collection of old master paintings, furniture, arms & armour and other works of art including the Warwick Vase. In addition to his collecting habits he was also an amateur painter and poet. By 1800 his purchasing of art and redesigning of Warwick Castle's park had bankrupted his family. This podcast examines whether or not his aesthetic vision was worth it.

The presenter reveals what happened to cause the turbulence between the two men.

A podcast documentary describing the magnificent life of Richard Beauchamp, 13th Earl of Warwick (1382-1439), written and produced by Adam Busiakiewicz & Aaron Manning.
Friend to Henry V, tutor to Henry VI, Richard Beauchamp can be considered to have been one of the greatest knights of Medieval England. A hero of Henry's campaigns in France, his extraordinary life is captured in the famous Beauchamp Pagaent, held at the British Library in London.
Alongside Richard's pursuits as a knight and courtier, he was also a significant patron of the arts. The outstanding Beauchamp Chapel, attached to St Mary's Collegiate Church in Warwick after his death, remains one of the most exquisite examples of Medieval Architecture to survive in England.
Adam Busiakiewicz and Aaron Manning are historians of Warwick Castle and its Earls. For any further information please get in touch: [email protected] / [email protected]

Just a little thing to honour one of my favourite characters in TWQ. Most people really dislike this character... but I love him. He's just so clever, and his swagger is just the best lol. James Frain plays him so well. I thought this song fitted the character pretty well too. Anyway, I hope you like it :)

Welcome to my next video in the ongoing Wars of the Roses Kingmaker project. After a year of working on this part of my Wars of the Roses collection i decided it was about time I started working on the Kingmaker himself. This is the first part of what will be a 3 part series on The Earl of Warwick’s command base. I really wanted to try and encapsulate a certain feeling with this one.
This first part shows the selection of the models as well as the kit bashing and converting i undertook to build the Kingmaker.

This podcast was written and produced by Adam Busiakiewicz and Aaron Manning, historians of Warwick Castle and its Earls. For more information get in touch: [email protected] / [email protected]
