Potentially Visible Sets are used to accelerate the rendering of 3D environments. This is a form of occlusion culling, whereby a candidate set of potentially visible polygons are pre-computed, then indexed at run-time in order to quickly obtain an estimate of the visible geometry. The term PVS is sometimes used to refer to any occlusion culling algorithm (since in effect, this is what all occlusion algorithms compute), although in almost all the literature, it is used to refer specifically to occlusion culling algorithms that pre-compute visible sets and associate these sets with regions in space. In order to make this association, the camera view-space (the set of points from which the camera can render an image) is typically subdivided into (usually convex) regions and a PVS is computed for each region.
Benefits vs. Cost
The benefit of offloading visibility as a pre-process are:
The application just has to look up the pre-computed set given its view position. This set may be further reduced via frustum culling. Computationally, this is far cheaper than computing occlusion based visibility every frame.
Vasil Iliev Security, or VIS, was a security and insurance company in Bulgaria thought to be a front for a criminal organisation dealing in extortion, car theft, drug trafficking and more. Set up in the early 1990s by Vasil Iliev, the company was declared illegal in 1994 but continued operating under the new name of VIS-2.
VIS, along with its rival SIC, was made up primarily of ex-wrestlers, policemen and members of the security apparatus. As well as extortion rackets, the groups also worked in "car insurance" and theft. The capital they earned in the emerging Bulgarian economy of the 1990s allowed them to build huge influence amongst the government.
Vasil Iliev was assassinated on 25 April 1995. His brother Georgi Iliev became the new boss of the company, but was assassinated on 26 August 2005.
In optics, a diaphragm is a thin opaque structure with an opening (aperture) at its center. The role of the diaphragm is to stop the passage of light, except for the light passing through the aperture. Thus it is also called a stop (an aperture stop, if it limits the brightness of light reaching the focal plane, or a field stop or flare stop for other uses of diaphragms in lenses). The diaphragm is placed in the light path of a lens or objective, and the size of the aperture regulates the amount of light that passes through the lens. The centre of the diaphragm's aperture coincides with the optical axis of the lens system.
Most modern cameras use a type of adjustable diaphragm known as an iris diaphragm, and often referred to simply as an iris.
See the articles on aperture and f-number for the photographic effect and system of quantification of varying the opening in the diaphragm.
Iris diaphragms versus other types
A natural optical system that has a diaphragm and an aperture is the human eye. The iris is the diaphragm, and the opening in the iris of the eye (the pupil) is the aperture. An analogous dev in a photographic lens is called an iris diaphragm.
Iris is a 1987 Netherlands film directed by Mady Saks and starring Monique van de Ven.
Plot
A young woman, Iris, runs away to the big city on her eighteenth birthday. She moves in with an architect and decides to become a veterinarian. With an inheritance she buys an existing clinic in a backwoods town where Iris is leered at by the men, scorned by the women. Cruel jokes and gossip eventually lead to violence.A local thug breaks in her house while she is out. When she returns home late night, he attacks her, drag her to the wooden stairs, ties her hands, stretch her legs wide apart and ties to the railing of stairs and rapes her brutally.

For years, a ruthless mafia has ruled Calabria through intimidation and violence. Now prosectuors are taking them on, charging hundreds in one of the biggest trials in decades. But can the Italian state beat the country's most powerful mafia organisation?
The Calabrian mafia began local but over recent decades it's transformed into a powerful, multi-national criminal organisation, with an estimated turnover of 80 billion dollars a year.
Now Italian prosecutors are running a maxi-trial against members of a family they allege is one of the ‘Ndrangehta’s most powerful clans – the Mancusos.
More than 300 members and associates of the Mancusos have been arrested.
The charge sheet is sobering. It includes murder, extortion, drug trafficking and money laundering.
In this gripping crime saga, Fran Kelly travels to Vibo Valentia to tell the story of this historic attempt to curb the power of the ‘Ndrangheta.
She gains access to the man leading the trial, Chief Prosecutor Nicola Gratteri. He’s been investigating the Calabrian mafia for decades and has long been on the mafia’s kill list.
“There’s always tension. There’s always fear and you must always be careful”, he tells Kelly as he drives to court surrounded by his security motorcade. “You have to tame fear and talk to death.”
Kelly speaks with community members who now feel emboldened to speak out against the mafia.
‘The number of people turning on the mafia has increased’, says anti-mafia activist Giuseppe Borrello. ‘It’s new for Vibo Valentia.”
Gratteri’s actions have given hope to Sara Scarpulla, whose son was blown up in a car bomb organised by a member of the Mancuso family.
Kelly also speaks to an anti-mafia prosecutor in Milan, Italy’s financial heart, where the ‘Ndrangheta has established a strong presence.
In Calabria, not everyone in the community is rallying behind Nicola Gratteri’s maxi-trial.
“There’s vicious mudslinging aimed at the Prosecutor’s Office’, explains lawyer Giovanna Fronte. “That’s how the ‘Ndrangheta operates.”
For the people of Vibo Valentia, the maxi-trial has raised hopes of a new chapter in which the State regains control of a land long thought lost to organised crime.
But can these prosecutions uproot the powerful networks of the ‘Ndrangheta?

The Mafia's Secret Bunkers (Mafia Documentary) - Real Stories

The new Kings and Generals animated historical series will talk about the history of different crime syndicates: Triads, Bratva, various Mafias. The first video will describe the Sicilian Mafia - Cosa Nostra, how it was created, how it functioned and how it became what it is today in Italy and America.

The diaphragm controls how much light is let through the lens. Stained slides usually require high light. Unstained slides often require lower light settings or even polarized or filtered light.

8MID50 Motorized Iris Diaphragm Mount was developed due to interest in our previously presented motorized iris 8MID98-4. Motorized Iris Diaphragm Mount is designed for our smallest diaphragm family, more information about fitted iris diaphragms can be found on this page. Unfortunately it is impossible to interchange iris diaphragms at home since every diaphramg has its own adapter ring and requires calibration.
