The glamorous Swedish royal family isn’t quite done celebrating the regal christening of Prince Alexander. ..On Monday the palace released official photos of Sweden’s youngest royal prince, taken by court photographer Mattias Edwall at Drottningholm Palace immediately after the ceremony on September 9. The four images include new parents Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia with their five-month-old baby boy as well as Sofia’s two sisters, Lina and Sara Hellqvist, and Carl Philip’s two sisters, Crown Princess Victoria and Princess Madeleine – both of whom brought their own children to the special day. Another photo shows both sets of proud grandparents. After his big morning, it’s perhaps no surprise that after the service the tiny Duke of Södermanland, (as the young prince is also known), decided to take a nap, leaving his parents to greet guests on their way to enjoy a celebratory lunch with While they did, the young prince rested in a historic baby bed known as King Karl XV’s Cradle. The gilded bed, featured on the official palace website , was made in 1826. Once the future King Karl had grown out of it four years later, his father decreed the cradle was to be reserved only for ceremonial, rather than everyday, use. The cradle is familiar and reassuring, not just to Prince Alexander’s immediate family, but also to others who attended, or just watched, the naming service. King Karl XV’s Cradle has also provided a restful platform at the baptisms of Princess Madeleine, her daughter Princess Leonore and, more recently, Princess Victoria’s son Prince Oscar .
