The James automobile company (called the J&M Motor Car Company) was created in 1909 by H. K. James.
History
The first car, called a Model A, was tested on April 2, 1909 on a 100 mile test run. A reporter wronte that the James "will climb and ordinary hill with two or four passengers." The Model A was a highwheeler and cost between $700 and $800. Production was minimal, and in 1911 the company quit production of the car for a larger car called the Dearborn. It lasted one year.
The ship James made several trips during the early 17th century Great Migration out of England to the New World. It is unclear how many ships were named James during the Great Migration, as the name James was very popular in England during the reign of James I of England (1567–1625).
1621-1622 voyage
From England to Virginia
It appears the James landed right around the New Year, because some of the passengers reported as landing in 1621, and others in 1622, most likely due to winter conditions. The first few off the ship were servants of Edward Bennett, the wealthy London merchant that had paid for over 800 servants to travel to the New World to work his plantations, and who had already established his plantation, so they had a place to stay.
Compact Cassette or cassette tape, a magnetic tape recording format for audio recording and playback
Digital Audio Tape (DAT), a signal recording and playback medium developed by Sony and introduced in 1987
Digital Compact Cassette (DCC), a magnetic tape sound recording format introduced by Philips and Matsushita in late 1992 and marketed as the successor to the standard analog Compact Cassette
Punched tape or paper tape, a long strip of paper in which holes are punched to store data
Reel-to-reel audio tape recording, magnetic tape audio recording in which the recording medium is held on a reel, rather than being contained within a cassette
Tapes are used in surveying for measuring Horizontal, vertical or slope distances. Tapes are issued in various lengths and widths and graduated in variety of ways.
The measuring tapes used for surveying purposes are classfied in 4 types according to the material from which they are manufactured:
Linen or Cloth Tape. It is made of linen cloth with brass handle at zero end whose length is included in the tape length. It is very light and handy, but cannot withstand much wear and tear. So it cannot be used for accurate work. It is little used in surveying except for taking subsidiary measurements like offsets.
Metallic Tape. The tape is reinforced with copper wires to prevent stretching or twisting of fibres and is then called as metallic tape. They are available in many lengths but tapes of 20 m and 30 m are more commonly used.
Steel Tape. It is made of steel ribbon varying in width from 6mm to 16mm. It is available in lengths of 1, 2, 10, 30 and 50 metres. It cannot withstand rough usage and therefore it should be used with great care.
Duck (aka duckling) refers to the meat of several species of bird in the family Anatidae, found in both fresh and salt water; a species of freshwater duck, the mallard, has been domesticated and is a common livestock bird in many parts of the world. Duck is eaten in various cuisines around the world.
Types of ducks
The most common duck meat consumed in the United States is the Pekin duck. Because most commercially raised Pekins come from Long Island, New York, Pekins are also sometimes called "Long Island" ducks, despite being of Chinese origin. Some specialty breeds have become more popular in recent years, notably the Muscovy duck, and the mulard duck (a sterile hybrid of Pekins and Muscovies). Unlike most other domesticated ducks, Muscovy ducks are not descended from mallards.
Duck is particularly predominant in the Chinese cuisine — a popular dish is Peking duck, which is made from the Pekin duck. They are commonly eaten with scallions, cucumbers and hoisin sauce wrapped in a tortilla-like pancake made of flour and water or a soft, risen bun known as gebao (割包).
According to the USDA, nearly 26 million ducks were eaten in the U.S. in 2004.
He writes under the pseudonyms Duck, Pasquale, Quixote, Bradman, Giovanni, and Izetti (all punningly connected with the name Don or Donald). He has also written a book on devising and solving crosswords, Chambers Crossword Manual (1986, 5th edition October 2014).
He has appeared on the BBC Radio 4 panel game, Puzzle Panel, and anchored the BBC4 documentary "How to Solve a Cryptic Crossword".
Don Manley was brought up in Cullompton, Devon, attending local state schools and Blundell's School, Tiverton as a Foundation Scholar. He read physics at Bristol University. After a short spell in a telecommunications laboratory he worked in academic and educational publishing at The Institute of Physics, Stanley Thornes, Basil Blackwell, and Oxford University Press, which he left in 2002, when crosswords took over as his sole paid occupation. He is married to Dr Susan Manley, a clinical biochemist. They have two married children, two grandsons, and a granddaughter.
The English Nomad: A James Parry Profile | Vans Duct Tape Invitational
Cornwall native and Duct Tape competitor/photographer speaks all things European longboarding, including Zarautz, as well as his desire to explore every nook and cranny of European coastline in search of waves and adventure.
"Anybody who thinks the English don't have charm, hasn't spent enough time with them," said Van's Duct Tape founder, world traveler, and renowned style master, Joel Tudor.
It should be added that if stylish, perennially smiling, multifarious board riding surfer and photographer James Parry were the only Englishman you'd ever met, you'd be a firm believer in the redeeming character of the Queen's subjects.
While Parry cultivated his smooth glide and casual approach around the small, but unimpeachably surf-mad village of Sennen Cove near Cornwall, his rambling nature...

"As a grom, I'd see all my heroes just kind of disappear for the winter," Parry said. "Then they'd come back with all these amazing stories. That got me thinking and wondering what's out there."
James recently rambled his way to Zarautz in the Spanish Basque Country for the Duct Tape Invitational--an event in which he's become an annual favorite, over the years--where we caught up with the English Nomad to talk about his upbringing in Southern England, his love of photography, and the roots of his itinerant nature.
