Ground (Dzogchen)

In Dzogchen Ground (Tibetan: གཞི, Wylie: gzhi ; IAST: āśraya or sthāna) is the primordial state. It is an essential component of the Dzogchen tradition for both the Bonpo and the Nyingmapa. Knowledge of this Ground is called rigpa.

Etymology

The Tibetan: གཞི, Wylie: gzhi has been rendered as 'Base', 'Basis', 'Ground' and 'Ground of Being' amongst other English glosses. According to Dudjom the original Sanskrit-term is āśraya (IAST; Sanskrit Devanagari: आश्रय; Etymology: आ- √श्रि), but it could also be sthāna.

Sam van Schaik states that gzhi is to be distinguished from kun gzhi. In the Seminal Heart series a distinction is made between kun gzhi, c.q. ālaya, "the base of it all", the samsaric basis of consciousness, of all the samsaric appearances; and gzhi, "the nirvanic basis known as the ground."

Three qualities

According to the Dzogchen-teachings, the Ground or Buddha-nature has three qualities:

ngo bo, "essence", openness or emptiness (Wylie: ngo bo stong pa ),

rang bzhin, "nature", luminosity, lucidity or clarity (as in the luminous mind of the Five Pure Lights) (Wylie: rang bzhin gsal ba ),

Basis (universal algebra)

In universal algebra a basis is a structure inside of some (universal) algebras, which are called free algebras. It generates all algebra elements from its own elements by the algebra operations in an independent manner. It also represents the endomorphisms of an algebra by certain indexings of algebra elements, which can correspond to the usual matrices when the free algebra is a vector space.

Definitions

The basis (or reference frame) of a (universal) algebra is a function b that takes some algebra elements as values and satisfies either one of the following two equivalent conditions. Here, the set of all is called basis set, whereas several authors call it the "basis". The set of its arguments i is called dimension set. Any function, with all its arguments in the whole , that takes algebra elements as values (even outside the basis set) will be denoted by m. Then, b will be an m.

Outer condition

This condition will define bases by the set L of the -ary elementary functions of the algebra, which are certain functions that take every m as argument to get some algebra element as value . In fact, they consist of all the projections with i in , which are the functions such that for each m, and of all functions that rise from them by repeated "multiple compositions" with operations of the algebra.

Melanie Blatt

Melanie Blatt (born 25 March 1975) is an English singer-songwriter and actress. She is also the daughter of author and travel expert David Blatt. She rose to fame in 1997 as a member of the BRIT Award-winning girl group All Saints. The group have gained five number one singles, two multi-platinum albums, two BRIT Awards and have sold over 10 million records worldwide making them one of the best-selling girl groups of all time, and the second best-selling girl group in the UK. Melanie Blatt began recording a solo album in 2003, working with numerous producers including Xenomania and released her debut solo single "Do Me Wrong" in 2003. Blatt was later dropped by her record label, and her solo album was cancelled. In 2005, she made a return to music with her single "See Me", and began recording another album independently which was later shelved and cancelled in favour of the All Saints reunion. Starting in 2013, she was a judge on the television series The X Factor NZ.

  A reading for meditation of sections of Garab Dorje's teaching, "The Clear Meaning Tantra" - compiled by Yeshe Donden (Roger Calverley). Originally written down in Sanskrit by Garab Dorje, this work was transmitted to Manjushrimitra, from whom it passed to Sri Simha, who in turn transmitted it to Padmasambhava. He brought the tantra to Tibet and hid it at some point in the mid to late 700’s AD. Centuries later, Guru Chowang (1212 – 1270) found the book and published it, which made possible its preservation in the collection known as the Hundred Thousand Tantras of the Ancients (Nyingma Gyubum).   Ngondro is the Essential Ground of the Dzogchen View

  Having a good heart, devotion, and bodhichitta is the basis of the Dzogchen view of the nature of the mind. Continually deepening our practice of the four renunciation thoughts and ngondro is what settles our minds and absorbs the teachings into our hearts, revealing our natural qualities of love, compassion, and wisdom. With this foundation, we practice additional Dzogchen meditation techniques according to a more elaborate scholarly way, or in a simpler yogi or yogini style. Khenpo Rinpoche gave this teaching during the Richo Mountain Retreat at Padma Samye Ling on April 5, 2011.

Poprowadził je James Low - nauczyciel buddyjski i terapeuta. James Low po raz pierwszy zetknął się z buddyzmem w latach sześćdziesiątych w Indiach. Poznał hinduskich joginów, a później także buddyjskich lamów, takich jak Kalu Rinpocze, Czatral Rinpocze, Kandziur Rinpocze i Duddziom Rinpocze. A reading for meditation of sections of Garab Dorje's teaching, "The Clear Meaning Tantra" - compiled by Yeshe Donden (Roger Calverley). Originally written down in Sanskrit by Garab Dorje, this work was transmitted to Manjushrimitra, from whom it passed to Sri Simha, who in turn transmitted it to Padmasambhava. He brought the tantra to Tibet and hid it at some point in the mid to late 700’s AD. Centuries later, Guru Chowang (1212 – 1270) found the book and published it, which made possible its preservation in the collection known as the Hundred Thousand Tantras of the Ancients (Nyingma Gyubum). A reading for meditation of sections of Garab Dorje's teaching, "The Clear Meaning Tantra" - compiled by Yeshe Donden (Roger Calverley). Originally written down in Sanskrit by Garab Dorje, this work was transmitted to Manjushrimitra, from whom it passed to Sri Simha, who in turn transmitted it to Padmasambhava. He brought the tantra to Tibet and hid it at some point in the mid to late 700’s AD. Centuries later, Guru Chowang (1212 – 1270) found the book and published it, which made possible its preservation in the collection known as the Hundred Thousand Tantras of the Ancients (Nyingma Gyubum).
