The concept of the Daleks and the Cybermen both appearing on-screen was first proposed in 1967, but was vetoed by Terry Nation, the creator of the Daleks. The episode is the first conflict between the two species in Doctor Who's 45-year history, and features Billie Piper's last appearance in the lead companion role as Rose Tyler; the final regular appearance of Noel Clarke as Rose's ex-boyfriend and previous companion Mickey Smith; and the final regular appearances of Camille Coduri and Shaun Dingwall as Rose's parents, Jackie and Pete Tyler. The episode was filmed in December 2005 and January 2006, alongside the episodes "Rise of the Cybermen" and "The Age of Steel".
The Key to Time is the umbrella title that links all six serials of the sixteenth season of Doctor Who. The arc was originally conceived of by producer Graham Williams, who had proposed it as part of his application for the producer's job in 1976. The name refers to the powerful artefact whose segments the Doctor, Romana and K-9 are searching for during the season.
Synopsis
A figure calling himself the White Guardian commissions the Doctor and K9, assisted by a new companion, the Time Lady Romana, to find the six segments of the Key to Time, a cosmic artifact resembling a perfect cube that maintains the equilibrium of the universe. Since it is too powerful for any single being to possess, it has been split into six different segments and scattered across space and time, disguised by the raw elemental power within them into any shape or size. However, since the forces balancing the universe are so upset, the White Guardian needs to recover the segments of the Key to stop the universe so that he can restore the balance. The White Guardian also warns the Doctor of the Black Guardian who also wishes to obtain the Key To Time for his own purposes. In the final episode, the Black Guardian, disguised as the White Guardian, attempts to take the Key from the Doctor. However, the Doctor sees through the figure's charade and orders the segments of The Key to Time to once again become scattered across all of time and space, bar the sixth, which he reinstates as Princess Astra. Afterward, the Doctor decides to install a device called a randomizer into the TARDIS' navigation system for a period of time to make his following voyages unpredictable to evade the Black Guardian.
Terror of the Zygons was produced as part of the production schedule for Season 12, but was held for transmission from the end of that season to the beginning of Season 13, to coincide with a move from the new season starting at the beginning of the calendar year, to starting in late summer. Terror of the Zygons was also the last appearance of the Brigadier until Mawdryn Undead in Season 20. The season took a transmission break of two weeks over the Christmas 1975 period, between the broadcasts of The Android Invasion and The Brain of Morbius.
This is a list of audio productions based on the long-running British science fiction television series Doctor Who produced by Big Finish Productions. The first fifteen releases were made available in both Cassette and CD format, with subsequent releases being CD only. Most releases have also been made available as downloads.
Big Finish is currently not licensed by the BBC to produce audio dramas featuring the Twelfth Doctor, as portrayed by Peter Capaldi, or any characters which originate from his era.
Doomsday is a 2008 science fictionaction film written and directed by Neil Marshall. The film takes place in the future in Scotland, which has been quarantined because of a deadly virus. When the virus is found in London, political leaders send a team led by Major Eden Sinclair (Rhona Mitra) to Scotland to find a possible cure. Sinclair's team runs into two types of survivors: marauders and medieval knights. Doomsday was conceived by Marshall based on the idea of futuristic soldiers facing medieval knights. In producing the film, he drew inspiration from various movies, including Mad Max, Escape from New York and 28 Days Later.
Marshall had a budget three times the size of his previous two films, The Descent and Dog Soldiers, and the director filmed the larger-scale Doomsday in Scotland and South Africa. The film was released on 14 March 2008 in the United States and Canada and in the United Kingdom on 9 May 2008. Doomsday did not perform well at the box office, and critics gave the film mixed reviews.
Smallville is an American television series developed by writer/producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, and was initially broadcast by The WB. After its fifth season, the WB and UPN merged to form The CW, which was the second broadcaster for the show in the United States. The show features a regular cast of characters, which began with eight main characters in its first season. Since then, characters from that first season have left the show, with new main characters having been both written in and out of the series. In addition, Smallville features guest stars each week, as well as recurring guests that take part in mini story arcs that span a portion of a season. Occasionally, the recurring guest storylines will span multiple seasons.
The plot follows a young Clark Kent, in the fictional town of Smallville, Kansas, as he journeys toward becoming Superman. Additionally, the series chronicles Lex Luthor's path to the dark side, and his metamorphosis from Clark's best friend to greatest enemy. Smallville depicts the relationship between Clark and his first love interest, Lana Lang, as well as his relationship with Lois Lane, the woman he ultimately marries in the comic books. The series also features recurring appearances from other DC Universe characters, such as Arthur Curry and John Jones.

Stam Fine Reviews looks at the 16th Season of Doctor Who from the late 1970's, a unique season that saw The Doctor (Tom Baker) and new companion Romana (Mary Tamm) search for the six segments of the Key to Time. The 16th Season was the first use of a season long arc in Doctor Who, and resulted in a solid run of stories with less of the behind the scenes ructions of the previous year, including the first contribution to the series by a new writer, Douglas Adams.

It's not often clear if K9 is killing or stunning his victims, but in this episode it's made explicit that he's just stunning the guards.
0:24 - The Graff shoots with his laser spear
Thankfully there are very few effects shots in Ribos Operation, which was part of my reason for doing all of this season in one go. Although I did somewhat underestimate how many effects shots the other stories had!
0:32 - The Graff shoots Binro in the back
Poor Binro. Still, at least he doesn't get "half his body blown off" like in Ian Marter's novelisation.
0:38 - K9 frees Garron and Unstoffe
0:52 - The Graff shoots the Seeker in the face
1:01 - The first Key segment transformed
I tried a few different effects for the key segments being transformed, but I wanted to make sure they were consistent, even if the original effects weren't. This is probably the longest shot, as it's the first.
1:41 - Zanak and the mountain base
1:53 - Attack of the Mentiads
The suggestion in the recent novelisation is that the Mentiads are making the soldiers miss. But as there's nothing in the scene to suggest this, it just looks like they're amazingly bad shots. Since we know the Mentiads can create psychic barriers, I opted to have the laser bolts bounce off (or perhaps psychically redirected).
2:09 - K9 takes out some guards
2:15 - You look like Mentiads to me
I didn't add much to the Mentiad's psychic "blast" effect (which mysteriously disappears in later episodes), just gave it a bit of a polish.
2:31 - Trip in an Aircar
This was a tricky one as I wanted to retain the original models but try and give it some more depth while smoothing out the aircar's ascent. The new sky and sun was a bit risky, as it could have been overkill, but I think it works quite well.
2:44 - Kimus gets some target practice (Deleted scene)
I was lucky that the DVD of Pirate Planet contains all of the 16mm location footage without music or effects, which meant that I didn't need to mask off anything for the external effects. While I was doing that, I came across this deleted scene which I think works much better than the original one for showing what Kimus gets up to while he's waiting.
2:57 - Kimus shoots a couple of guards
3:13 - Underground shootout
3:32 - Psychic barrier
3:48 - K9 vs Avatron
As this scene was shot in the studio it meant a lot of masking of the original effects was required here. The novelisation only describes Avatron's attacks as some kind of electric energy, but since the original effect seemed to suggest it was dropping something I decided to go with a kind of electric energy ball (or perhaps it's more of an egg).
4:18 - Doctor walks the plank
The aim of the Captain's blaster doesn't line up with the impact sparks, meaning the blaster bolts look a little skewed.
4:32 - Queen Xanxia's hologram
The original negative effect didn't really highlight the fact that the "Nurse" was a holographic image (albeit a very corporeal one), so I went for a full on retro -TV kind of effect.
4:46 - Romana avenges the Mentiads
I love that Romana gets to shoot someone in this scene. And she's a pretty good shot too.
4:59 - Newton's revenge
For this I recreated all of the original elements of the POV shot; the corridor and the guards, from frame captures that I then upscaled. I also cropped out, increased the speed of the Doctor, Romana and the ill-fated guards as they arrive at the end of the runway.
5:17 - Aircar descent
5:22 - Queen Xanxia gets switched off
I thought I'd go for an old CRT switch-off effect at the very end of this (for those who know what that is!). It's a little silly, but I think it's quite in-keeping with the tone of this story.
5:31 - TARDIS in space
I'm not really sure what this shot of the TARDIS was attempting to convey but I wanted to retain the original model shot if I could, so while I was attempting to mask-off the TARDIS model I (accidentally) ended up with a mix of the TARDIS in space whilst also surrounded by the original 'glistening' effect in a circular form around the ship. This reminded me very much of the bubble you see around the TARDIS in Sylvester McCoy's opening titles, which I quite liked, so I kept it. :-)
5:42 - Your favourite planet
5:56 - Ogri attack
I did briefly consider replacing Elizabeth Parker's sound effect for K9's laser for this story, since it's quite different from the Dick Mills version.
6:00 - Romana gets transported
6:13 - Vivien makes a circle
6:20 - Electric charge
6:28 - Beware the Ogri
6:38 - Rumford projects the Doctor to hyperspace
6:53 - Onboard the prison
7:23 - K9 runs out of power
7:47 - The stones find a victim
7:57 - Rumford returns Vivien
8:19 - Romana's truth ray
8:37 - Ogri gets zapped by the Megara
8:46 - K9 holds off the Ogri (again)
8:52 - Goodbye!
9:05 - Vivien returns with the Megara
9:13 - Vivien turned to stone
9:20 - Third key segment transformed
(...I ran out of space for any more comments!)
0:00 - Titles

Stam Fine Reviews looks at the 16th Season of Doctor Who from the late 1970's, a unique season that saw The Doctor (Tom Baker) and new companion Romana (Mary Tamm) search for the six segments of the Key to Time. The 16th Season was the first use of a season long arc in Doctor Who, and resulted in a solid run of stories with less of the behind the scenes ructions of the previous year, including the first contribution to the series by a new writer, Douglas Adams.

0:00 - Titles
0:10 - Most satisfactory
