Discharge (band)
Discharge are a British hardcore punk band formed in 1977 by Terence "Tezz" Roberts and Royston "Rainy" Wainwright. While the band had substantial line-up changes over its history, the classic line-up from the early 1980s featured bassist Wainwright, drummer Gary Maloney, Anthony "Bones" Roberts playing guitar, and vocalist Kelvin "Cal" Morris (a.k.a. "Cal Voice").
The band is characterized by a minimalistic approach of music and lyrics, a heavy, distorted, and grinding guitar-driven sound and raw, shouted vocals similar to a political speech, with lyrics on anarchist and pacifist themes. AllMusic calls the band's sound a "high-speed noise overload" characterized by "ferocious noise blasts" The band's 1982 debut album, Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing, went to number two on the UK Indie Charts and number 40 in the UK Album Chart. In the early 1980s, numerous singles and EPs placed in the top 10 of the UK Indie Charts, including the 1981 EP Why? (#1) and the 1982 single State Violence State Control.

Vaginal discharge is a mixture of liquid, cells, and bacteria that lubricate and protect the vagina.[1][2] This mixture is constantly produced by the cells of the vagina and cervix, and it exits the body through the vaginal opening. The composition, amount, and quality of discharge varies between individuals and can vary throughout the menstrual cycle and throughout the stages of sexual and reproductive development.[3] Normal vaginal discharge may have a thin, watery consistency or a thick, sticky consistency, and it may be clear or white in color.[1][2] Normal vaginal discharge may be large in volume but typically does not have a strong odor, nor is it typically associated with itching or pain.[3] While most discharge is considered physiologic or represents normal functioning of the body, some changes in discharge can reflect infection or other pathological processes.[4][5] Infections that may cause changes in vaginal discharge include vaginal yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis, and sexually transmitted infections.[6][2] The characteristics of abnormal vaginal discharge vary depending on the cause, but common features include a change in color, a foul odor, and associated symptoms such as itching, burning, pelvic pain, or pain during sexual intercourseNormal vaginal discharge is composed of cervical mucus, vaginal fluid, shedding vaginal and cervical cells, and bacteria.[1]
The majority of the liquid in vaginal discharge is mucus produced by glands of the cervix.[1][4] The rest is made up of transudate from the vaginal walls and secretions from glands (Skene's and Bartholin's).[4] The solid components are exfoliated epithelial cells from the vaginal wall and cervix as well as some of the bacteria that inhabit the vagina.[1] These bacteria that live in the vagina do not typically cause disease. In fact, they can protect the individual from other infectious and invasive bacteria by producing substances such as lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide that inhibit growth of other bacteria.[6] The normal composition of bacteria in the vagina (vaginal flora) can vary, but is most commonly dominated by lactobacilli.[1]
Normal vaginal discharge is clear, white, or off-white.[1] The consistency can range from milky to clumpy, and odor typically mild to non-existent.[1] The majority of the discharge pools in the deepest portion of the vagina (the posterior fornix)[3] and exits the body over the course of a day with the force of gravity.[1][4] A typical reproductive-age woman produces 1.5 grams (half to one teaspoon) of vaginal discharge every day.[1]
During sexual arousal and sexual intercourse, the amount of fluid in the vagina increases due to engorgement of blood vessels surrounding the vagina. This engorgement of blood vessels increases the volume of transudate from the vaginal walls.[4] Transudate has a neutral pH, so increases in its production can temporarily shift vaginal pH to be more neutral.[4] Semen has a basic pH and can neutralize the acidity of the vagina for up to 8 hrs.[4]
In neonates, vaginal discharge sometimes occurs in the first few days after birth. This is due to exposure to estrogen while in utero. Neonatal vaginal discharge may be white or clear with a mucous texture, or it may be bloody from normal transient shedding of the endometrium.[8]
Pediatric
The vagina of girls before puberty is thinner and has a different bacterial flora.[1][4] Vaginal discharge in pre-pubertal girls is minimal with a neutral to alkaline pH ranging from 6 to 8.[9] The composition of the bacterial population in pre-pubertal girls is dominated by staphylococcus species, in addition to a range of anaerobes, enterococci, E. coli, and lactobacillus.[9]
Puberty
During puberty, the hormone estrogen begins to be produced by the ovaries.[3] Even before the beginning of menses (up to 12 months before menarche, typically at the same time as the development of breast buds,[4]) vaginal discharge increases in amount and changes in composition.[9] Estrogen matures vaginal tissues and causes increased production of glycogen by epithelial cells of the vagina.[1] These higher levels of glycogen in the vaginal canal support the growth of lactobacilli over other bacterial species.[1][3] When lactobacilli use glycogen as a food source, they convert it to lactic acid.[1][3][4] Therefore, the predominance of lactobacilli in the vaginal canal creates a more acidic environment. In fact, the pH of the vagina and vaginal discharge after puberty ranges between 3.5 and 4.7.[1]

Today we are going to talking about the band Discharge. The band didn’t just inspire other punk bands, but they were hugely influential on the metal bands that would go on to dominate the 80’s and 90’s. It was the band’s debut record Hear nothing See Nothing Say nothing that would unite once sworn enemies, punk rockers and metal heads.
Influential metal musician Steve Von Till, frontman for the metal band Neurosis reflected on the influence of the band’s debut record saying
“I’ve realised how much I’ve been influenced by what I call ‘The Discharge haiku’. It’s like a strange style of poetry – these short images of war and political deception. Unlike their earlier records, most songs were four lines, tops, but they say so much. It makes it epic, and you can apply them to your own time.”
He would go on to say:
“I was into metal at the time,” “This was before I found punk. But when the punks started telling us metal guys that we should listen to this album, we were intrigued" he'd add.
Now Discharge would form in 1977 in the English town of Stoke on Trent, the same town where Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash and Lemmy from Motorhead were born in. During the early days of the band no one thought the band would make such an impact on the punk and metal scene. Even by his own admission guitarist Tony ‘Bones’ Roberts would reveal how they were inspired by the bands who came before them and wanted to simply play music revealing to metal hammer “We Just listening to the clash and sex pistols and were having a go at doing that" he'd say.
Like pretty much every rock band Discharge went through a lot of lineup changes during their formative years. In addition to the lineup changes they would also release a number of straightforward singles and EP’s, but the band soon found a base with the small but loyal anarcho punk scene of the 1980’s.
Drummer Garry Maloney would reveal what was so exciting about the scene the band was involved in saying
“It was like a lifestyle that was different, exciting,” Likeminded people hanging out and going to gigs. It was brilliant. From my first show, seeing The Damned at Barbarella’s in Birmingham, to a few years later watching Black Flag soundcheck sitting on my flight case, I loved it all.”
Prior to recording their debut record the band would settle on a lineup consisting of the classic members of bassist Ryston Wainwright, drummer Gary Maloney, Anthony "Bones" Roberts playing guitar, and vocalist Kelvin "Cal" Morris.
As the band entered the studio to record their debut record, they had no clue they’d create the blueprint for bands like Metallica, Sepultura and Napalm Death. Bones would reveal in an interview “We really hit on something around that time,” “We had gone from sounding like a normal punk band into sounding like something else. It was all natural, though. We never tried to sound a certain way; we just started writing sounds about how we felt, and we felt like how that record sounded.”
Discharge would sign a record deal with local label Clay Records who also housed the other hugely influential punk band GBH. Since they were signed to an independent label the band wasn’t given much time in the studio and most songs on their debut album were done in one or two takes, but it didn’t matter. The results speak for themselves and Hear Nothing would combine elements of punk and metal.
The songs on the group's debut album shocked fans. The songs were bite sized pieces no longer than 2.5 minutes featuring the famous D-drum beat synonymous with punk and metal. The album tackled the horrors of war, capitalism, nihilism, paranoia, political deceptio

Vaginal discharge is a mixture of liquid, cells, and bacteria that lubricate and protect the vagina.[1][2] This mixture is constantly produced by the cells of the vagina and cervix, and it exits the body through the vaginal opening. The composition, amount, and quality of discharge varies between individuals and can vary throughout the menstrual cycle and throughout the stages of sexual and reproductive development.[3] Normal vaginal discharge may have a thin, watery consistency or a thick, sticky consistency, and it may be clear or white in color.[1][2] Normal vaginal discharge may be large in volume but typically does not have a strong odor, nor is it typically associated with itching or pain.[3] While most discharge is considered physiologic or represents normal functioning of the body, some changes in discharge can reflect infection or other pathological processes.[4][5] Infections that may cause changes in vaginal discharge include vaginal yeast infections, bacterial vaginosis, and sexually transmitted infections.[6][2] The characteristics of abnormal vaginal discharge vary depending on the cause, but common features include a change in color, a foul odor, and associated symptoms such as itching, burning, pelvic pain, or pain during sexual intercourseNormal vaginal discharge is composed of cervical mucus, vaginal fluid, shedding vaginal and cervical cells, and bacteria.[1]
The majority of the liquid in vaginal discharge is mucus produced by glands of the cervix.[1][4] The rest is made up of transudate from the vaginal walls and secretions from glands (Skene's and Bartholin's).[4] The solid components are exfoliated epithelial cells from the vaginal wall and cervix as well as some of the bacteria that inhabit the vagina.[1] These bacteria that live in the vagina do not typically cause disease. In fact, they can protect the individual from other infectious and invasive bacteria by producing substances such as lactic acid and hydrogen peroxide that inhibit growth of other bacteria.[6] The normal composition of bacteria in the vagina (vaginal flora) can vary, but is most commonly dominated by lactobacilli.[1]
Normal vaginal discharge is clear, white, or off-white.[1] The consistency can range from milky to clumpy, and odor typically mild to non-existent.[1] The majority of the discharge pools in the deepest portion of the vagina (the posterior fornix)[3] and exits the body over the course of a day with the force of gravity.[1][4] A typical reproductive-age woman produces 1.5 grams (half to one teaspoon) of vaginal discharge every day.[1]
During sexual arousal and sexual intercourse, the amount of fluid in the vagina increases due to engorgement of blood vessels surrounding the vagina. This engorgement of blood vessels increases the volume of transudate from the vaginal walls.[4] Transudate has a neutral pH, so increases in its production can temporarily shift vaginal pH to be more neutral.[4] Semen has a basic pH and can neutralize the acidity of the vagina for up to 8 hrs.[4]
In neonates, vaginal discharge sometimes occurs in the first few days after birth. This is due to exposure to estrogen while in utero. Neonatal vaginal discharge may be white or clear with a mucous texture, or it may be bloody from normal transient shedding of the endometrium.[8]
Pediatric
The vagina of girls before puberty is thinner and has a different bacterial flora.[1][4] Vaginal discharge in pre-pubertal girls is minimal with a neutral to alkaline pH ranging from 6 to 8.[9] The composition of the bacterial population in pre-pubertal girls is dominated by staphylococcus species, in addition to a range of anaerobes, enterococci, E. coli, and lactobacillus.[9]
Puberty
During puberty, the hormone estrogen begins to be produced by the ovaries.[3] Even before the beginning of menses (up to 12 months before menarche, typically at the same time as the development of breast buds,[4]) vaginal discharge increases in amount and changes in composition.[9] Estrogen matures vaginal tissues and causes increased production of glycogen by epithelial cells of the vagina.[1] These higher levels of glycogen in the vaginal canal support the growth of lactobacilli over other bacterial species.[1][3] When lactobacilli use glycogen as a food source, they convert it to lactic acid.[1][3][4] Therefore, the predominance of lactobacilli in the vaginal canal creates a more acidic environment. In fact, the pH of the vagina and vaginal discharge after puberty ranges between 3.5 and 4.7.[1]

To a lot of people punk rock’s peak lasted from the mid to the late 70’s and It seemed like punk rock was a flash in the pan, but something that’s often overlooked is that even long after punk rock was thought to be dead there was one punk band that would inspire countless other bands of varying genres who followed in their footsteps. Who am I talking about? Stay tuned out find out.
Today we are going to talking about the band Discharge. The band didn’t just inspire other punk bands, but they were hugely influential on the metal bands that would go on to dominate the 80’s and 90’s. It was the band’s debut record Hear nothing See Nothing Say nothing that would unite once sworn enemies, punk rockers and metal heads.
Influential metal musician Steve Von Till, frontman for the metal band Neurosis reflected on the influence of the band’s debut record saying
“I’ve realised how much I’ve been influenced by what I call ‘The Discharge haiku’. It’s like a strange style of poetry – these short images of war and political deception. Unlike their earlier records, most songs were four lines, tops, but they say so much. It makes it epic, and you can apply them to your own time.”
He would go on to say:
“I was into metal at the time,” “This was before I found punk. But when the punks started telling us metal guys that we should listen to this album, we were intrigued" he'd add.
Now Discharge would form in 1977 in the English town of Stoke on Trent, the same town where Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash and Lemmy from Motorhead were born in. During the early days of the band no one thought the band would make such an impact on the punk and metal scene. Even by his own admission guitarist Tony ‘Bones’ Roberts would reveal how they were inspired by the bands who came before them and wanted to simply play music revealing to metal hammer “We Just listening to the clash and sex pistols and were having a go at doing that" he'd say.
Like pretty much every rock band Discharge went through a lot of lineup changes during their formative years. In addition to the lineup changes they would also release a number of straightforward singles and EP’s, but the band soon found a base with the small but loyal anarcho punk scene of the 1980’s.
Drummer Garry Maloney would reveal what was so exciting about the scene the band was involved in saying
“It was like a lifestyle that was different, exciting,” Likeminded people hanging out and going to gigs. It was brilliant. From my first show, seeing The Damned at Barbarella’s in Birmingham, to a few years later watching Black Flag soundcheck sitting on my flight case, I loved it all.”
Prior to recording their debut record the band would settle on a lineup consisting of the classic members of bassist Ryston Wainwright, drummer Gary Maloney, Anthony "Bones" Roberts playing guitar, and vocalist Kelvin "Cal" Morris.
As the band entered the studio to record their debut record, they had no clue they’d create the blueprint for bands like Metallica, Sepultura and Napalm Death. Bones would reveal in an interview “We really hit on something around that time,” “We had gone from sounding like a normal punk band into sounding like something else. It was all natural, though. We never tried to sound a certain way; we just started writing sounds about how we felt, and we felt like how that record sounded.”
Discharge would sign a record deal with local label Clay Records who also housed the other hugely influential punk band GBH. Since they were signed to an independent label the band wasn’t given much time in the studio and most songs on their debut album were done in one or two takes, but it didn’t matter. The results speak for themselves and Hear Nothing would combine elements of punk and metal.
The songs on the group's debut album shocked fans. The songs were bite sized pieces no longer than 2.5 minutes featuring the famous D-drum beat synonymous with punk and metal. The album tackled the horrors of war, capitalism, nihilism, paranoia, political deceptio
