On March 29-30, 2023, the United States co-hosted the second Summit for Democracy with the governments of Costa Rica, the Netherlands, Republic of Korea, and Republic of Zambia. The second Summit for Democracy assembled world leaders in a virtual, plenary format, followed by gatherings in each of the co-hosted countries with representatives from government, civil society, and the private sector. The second Summit for Democracy reinforced the truth that a safer and fairer world grounded in democratic values is both a shared aspiration and a shared responsibility.

Press Conference: Republic of Armenia Centenary Lectures with Dr. Richard Hovannisian
In honor of the First Armenian Republic’s centenary, the American University of Armenia (AUA) and the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) Armenia are co-hosting a lecture series exploring this history with renowned historian and UCLA professor emeritus, Dr. Richard Hovannisian.
The press conference announcing the Republic of Armenia Centenary lectures was held on April 16th at AGBU Armenia Hall. The speakers included Dr. Richard Hovannisian, AUA president Dr. Armen Der-Kiuireghian and AGBU Armenia President Vasken Yacoubian.
During the press conference Dr. Hovannisian briefly talked about the topics that will be covered during the lectures on April 16, 18 and 20.

Nagorno-Karabakh: President Ilham Aliyev speaks to the BBC - BBC News
President Ilham Aliyev has said his forces are winning the ongoing Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and said Armenia's "opportunities to compromise are shrinking".
Fighting has flared in the territory, which is internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan, but governed by ethnic Armenians backed by the Armenian government.
The president said he saw no possibility of peace with the Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan.
Since his interview with the BBC's Orla Guerin he has announced the capture of a key town in the disputed territory, although Armenia says fighting is ongoing.

In honor of the First Armenian Republic’s centenary, the American University of Armenia (AUA) and the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) Armenia are co-hosting a lecture series exploring this history with renowned historian and UCLA professor emeritus, Dr. Richard Hovannisian.
The press conference announcing the Republic of Armenia Centenary lectures was held on April 16th at AGBU Armenia Hall. The speakers included Dr. Richard Hovannisian, AUA president Dr. Armen Der-Kiuireghian and AGBU Armenia President Vasken Yacoubian.
During the press conference Dr. Hovannisian briefly talked about the topics that will be covered during the lectures on April 16, 18 and 20.
On April 16 Dr. Hovannisian will recount the historical conditions that lead to May 28- a day symbolizing resurrected statehood for Armenia.
For the second installment of this series the lecturer will explore the difficulties and triumphs that came with the establishment of a democratic republic in the face of opposing political agendas and conflict among minority groups.
For the third and final lecture Dr. Hovannisian will discuss the local and regional politics impacting the stability of the First Armenian Republic.

Azerbaijan, but governed by ethnic Armenians backed by the Armenian government.
The president said he saw no possibility of peace with the Armenian Prime Minister, Nikol Pashinyan.
Since his interview with the BBC's Orla Guerin he has announced the capture of a key town in the disputed territory, although Armenia says fighting is ongoing.
