"Dead and Gone" is a song by American hip hop recording artist T.I., featuring American singer-songwriter Justin Timberlake. It was released as the eighth single from T.I.'s sixth studio album Paper Trail (2008). Due to high digital downloads upon the album's release, the song debuted on the Billboard Hot 100, before its official single release. The song marked the second collaboration between T.I. and Justin Timberlake, the first being hit single, "My Love", from Timberlake's second album FutureSex/LoveSounds (2006). T.I. and Timberlake performed this song at the 51st Grammy Awards. The song was later nominated twice at the 52nd Grammy Awards, for 'Best Rap/Sung Collaboration' and 'Best Rap Song'.
Background
Rob Knox (not to be confused with the murdered actor), one of the producers, expressed his feelings into creating the song.
In the song, T.I. deals with the death of his best friend and former bodyguard, Philant Johnson, who was killed on May 3, 2006, when T.I.'s crew was caught up in a shooting after a show in Cincinnati that left three injured and Johnson killed. The lyrics include lines such as: "Who ever thought I'd never see Philant no more," and "Big Phil this is for you." Johnson's tombstone is shown in the video.
In this novel, the weres and shifters make their presence known, following the example of the vampires. At the same time, the King of Nevada, who now leads Louisiana as well, begins consolidating his power, which has a number of repercussions. The revelation of the existence of weres and shifters causes some problems. Sookie's boss, Sam Merlotte, reveals to the community that he is a shifter, and Tray Dawson reveals he is a Were, with both men changing into their animal forms at Merlotte's Bar on the evening of the announcement. Most residents of Bon Temps take the new revelation fairly well; Merlotte's initially sees some business slowdown, but then it returns to normal. However, Merlotte's waitress Arlene, who has been dating a member of the anti-vampire Fellowship of the Sun (FoS), takes the revelation badly and quits her job in a fury. Sam's mother, who is also a shifter, is shot by Sam's step-father, and Sam's non-shifter siblings, who did not know their parents and brother were shifters, have some troubles related to the announcement. Sam leaves Bon Temps to help his mother and leaves Sookie in temporary charge of the bar.
Patrick Huber has emphasized the theme of masculinity in the continued expansion of the term in the 20th century, noting, "The redneck has been stereotyped in the media and popular culture as a poor, dirty, uneducated, and racist Southern white man."
Anti-conservative epithet
By 1975, say Chapman and Kipfer, the term had expanded in meaning beyond the poor Southerner to refer to "a bigoted and conventional person, a loutish ultra-conservative." For example, in 1960 John Barlow Martin felt that Senator John F. Kennedy should not enter the Indiana Democratic presidential primary because the state was "redneck conservative country." Indiana, he told Kennedy, was a state "suspicious of foreign entanglements, conservative in fiscal policy, and with a strong overlay of Southern segregationist sentiment."William Safire says it is often used to attack white Southern conservatives. The term is also used broadly to degrade working class and rural whites that are perceived by urban progressives to be insufficiently liberal. At the same time, some white Southerners have reclaimed the word, using it with pride and defiance as a self-identifier.

It was the devil's reign that called him As he was runnin' from the law He had him in an awful strange hold It was the worst kind of them all Then he took him down below And what a wonderous sight did he behold And as the devil spit into the sun Amazing things had begun. He woke up and had him a feelin' A feelin' he could do no wrong His hands were faster, his eyes were sharp His body never felt so strong Nobody's gonna cross his path No one could gun him down Because the devil was in his eye The devil had come to town Chorus: Sundance blazin' baby Sundance blazin' baby And now his days are numbered He's lookin' up towards the sun His eyes were weak, his hands were slow And that meant sundance gun Because the devil took him down below A wonderous sight did he behold And now the devil had come back to town To take sundance soul. Chorus: Sundance blazin' baby Sundance blazin' baby.
