Goliath (/ɡəˈlaɪəθ/) (Hebrew: גָּלְיָת, ModernGolyat, TiberianGolyāṯ; Arabic: جالوت, Ǧālūt (Qur'anic term), جليات Ǧulyāt (Christian term)) or Goliath of Gath (one of five city states of the Philistines) was a giantPhilistine warrior defeated by the young David, the future king of Israel, in the Bible's Books of Samuel (1 Samuel 17).
The original purpose of the story was to show David's identity as the true king of Israel. Post-Classical Jewish traditions stressed Goliath's status as the representative of paganism, in contrast to David, the champion of the God of Israel. Christian tradition gave him a distinctively Christian perspective, seeing in David's battle with Goliath the victory of God's king over the enemies of God's helpless people as a prefiguring of Jesus' victory over sin on the cross and the Church's victory over Satan.
The phrase "David and Goliath" has taken on a more secular meaning, denoting an underdog situation, a contest where a smaller, weaker opponent faces a much bigger, stronger adversary.
David e Golia (English translation: David and Goliath) is a 1960 Italian film directed by Ferdinando Baldi and Richard Pottier with sequences filmed in Israel and Yugoslavia.
The unsuspecting shepherd David visits Jerusalem where he is identified as the king. Abner decides to test his wisdom by asking how the Israelites can get around the Philistines edict they have imposed that the only ones who may lawfully bear arms in defeated Israel are the officers of Saul's court and his palace guard. David replies that the Philistines have set no limit on the number of officers or palace guards.
Meanwhile, King Asrod of the Philistines plots another attack on the riches of Israel, this time accompanied by the fearsome giantGoliath.
David (Spanish pronunciation:[daˈβið]) officially San José de David is a city and corregimiento located in the west of Panama. It is the capital of the province of Chiriquí and has an estimated population of 144,858 inhabitants as confirmed in 2013. It is a relatively affluent city with a firmly established, dominant middle class and a very low unemployment and poverty index. The Pan-American Highway is a popular route to David.
The development of the banking sector, public construction works such as the expansion of the airport and the David-Boquete highway alongside the growth of commercial activity in the city have increased its prominence as one of the fastest growing regions in the country. The city is currently the economic center of the Chiriqui province and produces more than half the gross domestic product of the province, which totals 2.1 billion. It is known for being the third-largest city in the country both in population and by GDP and for being the largest city in Western Panama.
David Abraham Cheulkar (1909 – 28 December 1981), popularly known as David, was a Jewish-IndianHindi film actor and a member of Mumbai's Marathi speaking Bene Israel community. In a career spanning four decades, he played mostly character roles, starting with 1941 film Naya Sansar, and went on to act in over 110 films, including memorable films like, Gol Maal (1979), Baton Baton Mein (1979) and Boot Polish (1954) for which he was awarded the 1955 Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award.
Early life
David graduated from the University of Bombay with a Bachelor of Arts degree in the year 1930. After a six year unsuccessful struggle to land himself a job, he decided to try his luck in the Hindi film industry by becoming a professional actor. During these years of struggle, he also managed to obtain a degree in law from the Government Law College.
Finally, on 15 January 1937, with the help of his close friend Mr. Nayampalli, a veteran character actor, he managed to land himself his first role in a movie. The movie was Zambo and it was being produced and directed by Mohan Bhavnani who was the Chief Producer of the Films Division of the Government of India.
David is a 1988 American television movie, the true story of a child named David Rothenberg, who was burned by his father. This made-for-television film co-starred Matthew Lawrence as David, Bernadette Peters as his mother, and John Glover as his father. It aired on ABC.
Plot
The film is based on a book written by Marie Rothenberg and Mel White and relates the true story of David, a child who was burned over 90 percent of his body by his father. The parents were estranged and the non-custodial father, Charles Rothenberg, fled with David in tow to California, but quickly decided that he could not care for David alone. However, rather than return David to his mother's care, the elder Rothenberg used kerosene to set fire to his son while the boy slept in a hotel room. The movie shows how his mother, Marie Rothenberg, coped with the crisis, and the courage and determination of David.
Goliath is a steel roller coaster located at the Walibi Holland theme park in Biddinghuizen, Dronten in the Netherlands. It is described as "the fastest, highest and longest coaster in the Benelux". It was mainland Europe's second Intamin "Mini Hyper Rollercoaster", so named as the ride is styled on the larger (generally over 200 feet (61m)) ride, but with a lower maximum height of 153 feet (47m). The train travels at speeds of up to 66 miles per hour (106km/h) along 3,982 feet (1,214m) of track.
Ride information
The roller coaster is another collaboration of Swiss manufacturer Intamin and German engineer Werner Stengel. It employs basically the same technology as Expedition GeForce with a cable lift hill, similarly set up trains and is set beside a lake. The ride premiered in the 2002 season.
Ride layout
After climbing out of the station, the train is released from the catch car at the top of the lift hill and accelerates down the 152-foot (46m) first drop and runs over a large hill. After dropping for the second time, it ascends a hill called a Stengel Dive, the top being overbanked to around 100° to the right, before dropping down into a 270° downward helix. After medium-sized curved hill, it negotiates a 380° upwards helix and a bend to take the track parallel to the lift hill. Before entering the brake run, riders experience considerable air-time on three bunny hops.
Goliath is a steel coaster roller coaster at the La Ronde located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Designed by Bolliger & Mabillard, it reaches a maximum height of 174.8 feet (53.3m), a speed of 68.4 miles per hour (110.1km/h), and a track length of 4,038.8 feet (1,231.0m). Construction commenced in September 2005, and the roller coaster opened to the public on May 13, 2006. Goliath was the tallest and fastest roller coaster in Canada until it was surpassed by Behemoth (another Bolliger & Mabillard roller coaster), at Canada's Wonderland's in 2008.
History
Speculation that La Ronde would be building a new roller coaster began in the second half of 2004. Rumors that the roller coaster would be manufacutred by Bolliger & Mabillard emerged in September 2005. Construction for the roller coaster by Martin & Vleminckx began in September 2005 with land clearing and foundation pouring. The $18.7 million Goliath was announced on October 26, 2005. By mid-November, the storage bay was constructed with track pieces for the brake run and station being installed soon after. Construction on the lift hill continued throughout December and was topped off (the highest piece the lift hill) on December 21. The first drop was completed by mid-January 2006 followed by the first camelback hill which was completed by the end of February. After the second and third camelback hills were installed, the turnaround was completed in mid-March. The three camelback hills and banked turns leading back to the station were installed by the end of March marking the completion of installing track. The cars for the trains were also delivered in late March. After the cars were put on the track in April, testing began. Once testing was complete, Goliath opened to the public on May 13, 2006.

Parody of "Paperback Writer" by The Beatles (1 Samuel 17, 2 Samuel 21:15-22, Ruth 4:17) David & Goliath! David & Goliath! David & Goliath! You've heard about 'em - it's a famous scene Between the Israelites and the Philistines The faced each other in the valley of Elah, But the battle fought was a one-on-one with David & Goliath, David & Goliath From the Philistine army came a burly man He was named Goliath, so you understand This one was wearing just a coat of mail But it was made of bronze and weighed 200 lbs. David & Goliath, David & Goliath As he challenged Israel to take the field He was waiting 40 days and wouldn't yield David came along, but he was just a child With a sling-a-shot he went a-runnin' to him. David & Goliath, David & Goliath David threw the rock, and you could hear the sound 'Cause it hit the Philistine and knocked him down Then he struck Goliath, and cut off his head And he saved the day, 'cause the Lord was with him.
