However, suspicion grew due to his behavior after the murders, including his apparent disinterest in mourning and his obsession with his inheritance.

A 9-mm pistol with a homemade silencer was used by Ewell's roommate at Santa Clara University, Joel Radovcich, to murder the family on Easter Sunday in their home in the Central Valley as they returned from a long weekend on the coast.
Dana Ewell was sentenced on May 12, 1998, alongside friend and classmate Joel Radovcich, who was promised a part of the family fortune in return for murdering Dana's family.
Ernest Jack Ponce (who procured the murder weapon) was also charged with the murders, but he obtained a dismissal in exchange for his testimony and was later licensed as an attorney.
At the time of the murders, Dana Ewell still lived at home in the family's comfortable Sunnyside-area home near Fresno. In his freshman year at San Joaquin Memorial High School, Ewell claimed his goal was to be a multi-millionaire by age 25, but at age 21, he was still being supported by his parents. The murders took place on Sunday, April 19, 1992.
Dana had been lying to his friends, claiming that he was personally financially successful. Dana claimed to be a stock-market wiz and he also claimed to own his own airplane transport company. Dana's father found out that his son had been going around lying and bragging. Dana's father told him that he was getting cut off financially that summer, when he was expected to graduate from Santa Clara University.
Dana was angry and this is what led him to plot the murders, although ironically it was ultimately revealed to Dana during the reading of his father's will that his father instructed that the family fortune be given to Dana but in installments. Ewell's furious reaction to not gaining his full inheritance and his lack of grief over the deaths of his parents and sister led to his uncles informing investigators about the possibility that Dana was behind the murders.
Fresno County Assistant District Attorneys James Oppliger and Jeffrey Hammerschmidt prosecuted Ewell and Radovcich in a jury trial that took more than eight months. Ewell and Radovcich are serving life sentences without the possibility of parole; their appeals have all been denied and exhausted. Ewell is housed in the Protective Housing Unit of California State Prison, Corcoran.

During the Easter weekend in April 1992, Dana Ule informed his relatives that he couldn't reach his parents, Dale and Glee Ule, or his sister Tiffany Ule. Dana was at the family's California beach house with his girlfriend and her father, an FBI agent. Upon the housekeeper's arrival after the Easter weekend, she discovered the lifeless bodies of Dale, Glee, and Tiffany, prompting a call to the police. Initially presumed a botched burglary, authorities soon concluded it was a planned murder, with Dana becoming the prime suspect despite his alibi.
Dale Ule, a successful businessman, married Glee Michelle, a teacher and translator for the CIA. Their children, Tiffany and Dana, enjoyed a privileged upbringing. However, Dana's penchant for lies and desire for wealth diverged significantly from his family's values. Dana portrayed himself as the family's financial source, though he often fabricated his achievements. This deceit culminated in tragedy when Dana, motivated by greed, orchestrated the murder of his family to inherit their wealth.
Investigations revealed Dana's involvement, despite his attempts to appear distressed and offer rewards for information. His behavior, focused more on inheritance matters than mourning, raised suspicions. Dana's uncle's accusations and his efforts to claim the estate further implicated him. Investigators discovered Dana had embezzled funds from his grandmother, solidifying their suspicions.
Dana's friend, Joel Rovic, played a crucial role in the murders, carrying out Dana's plan meticulously. Both were arrested and charged, leading to a trial where their testimonies and actions were scrutinized. Ultimately, Dana and Joel were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.
The case highlights Dana's insatiable greed and betrayal, leading to his family's brutal demise. His actions serve as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of unchecked ambition and deceit.

Dana and Joel's actions, including the careful staging of the crime scene and the methodical nature of the murders, were uncovered through forensic analysis, surveillance, and testimony from accomplices. After a lengthy investigation and trial, Dana and Joel were convicted of the murders and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
The case highlights Dana's deep-seated greed and manipulation, ultimately leading him to betray and murder his family for financial gain.

The case of the Ewell family revolves around Dana Ewell, a man whose greed and sense of entitlement led to the tragic murder of his family. Dana, born into a wealthy family, was fixated on luxury and portrayed himself as a successful entrepreneur, though his claims were false. On April 19, 1992, his parents, Dale and Glee, and his sister Tiffany were murdered in their home. Initially, Dana had a solid alibi, as he was with his girlfriend and her FBI agent father. However, suspicion grew due to his behavior after the murders, including his apparent disinterest in mourning and his obsession with his inheritance.

During the Easter weekend in April 1992, Dana Ewell informed his relatives that he couldn't reach his parents, Dale and Glee Ewell, and his sister, Tiffany Ewell. Dana was still at the family's California beach house, where he had spent the weekend with his girlfriend and her father, an FBI agent. Upon the housekeeper's arrival for duty following the Easter weekend, the discovery she made in the house sent chills down her spine. The distressed housekeeper rushed to a neighbor's home, prompting an immediate call to the police who arrived at the scene of the grim discovery of the three lifeless bodies. Initially presumed to be a botched burglary, it was soon determined that nothing had been stolen, leading authorities to conclude it was a planned murder. But who could have had a motive to kill this innocent family? Investigations ensued, eliminating several potential suspects until one unlikely person emerged as the prime suspect. This is the horrifying case of the Ewell Family.
