An official language is a language that is given a special legal status in a particular country, state, or other jurisdiction. Typically a country's official language refers to the language used within government (e.g., courts, parliament, administration). Since "the means of expression of a people cannot be changed by any law", the term "official language" does not typically refer to the language used by a people or country, but by its government.
Worldwide 178 countries have at least one official language, and 101 of these recognise more than one language. Many of the world's constitutions mention one or more official and/or national languages. Some countries use the official language designation to empower indigenous groups by giving them access to the government in their native languages. In countries that do not formally designate an official language, a de facto national language usually evolves. English is the most common official language, with recognized status in 51 countries. Arabic, French, and Spanish are also widely recognized.
What Is The Official Language Of The United States?
What is the official language of the United States? The short answer: there isn't one. But there have been many attempts to change that. In this episode of Babbel Explains, we take you through American history and look at the ongoing battle between those who want to make English the official language of the U.S. and those who prefer to keep the country a melting pot of languages and cultures.

Should the United Nations add another official language?
Following the events of World War II, a multinational community known as The United Nations was established in order to ensure peace in a world with many conflicting interests. Today, there are over 193 recognized members of the UN, and with so much diversity comes many languages. Currently, the United Nations operates using 6 of the world’s most widespread languages. But for the large percentage of global civilians who don’t speak these languages, one might ask themself what the United Nations would add as an official language to communicate on a global scale.

Description: An official language is a language that is given a special legal status in a particular country, state, or other jurisdiction. Typically a country's official language refers to the language used within government . Since "the means of expression of a people cannot be changed by any law", the term "official language" does not typically refer to the language used by a people or country, but by its government.About half the countries of the world have declared one or more official languages. The government of Italy officialised Italian only in 1999, and some nations have never declared official languages at the national level. Other nations have declared non-indigenous official languages. "The Philippines and parts of Africa live with a peculiar cultural paradox. Although the official languages may be French or English, these are not the languages most widely spoken by residents."Worldwide, 178 countries have at least one official language, and 101 of these countries recognise more than one language. Many of the world's constitutions mention one or more official or national languages. An official language that is also an indigenous language is called endoglossic, one that is not indigenous is exoglossic. An instance is Nigeria which has three endoglossic official languages. By this the country aims to protect the indigenous languages although at the same time recognising the English language as its lingua franca.

Title: What is Official language?, Explain Official language, Define Official language
Created on: 2018-07-10
Source Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Official_language
------
Description: An official language is a language that is given a special legal status in a particular country, state, or other jurisdiction. An official language that is also an indigenous language is called endoglossic, one that is not indigenous is exoglossic. An instance is Nigeria which has three endoglossic official languages. By this the country aims to protect the indigenous languages although at the same time recognising the English language as its lingua franca.

(Intro) Let's do it! (Verse) The only thing they're scared is I'll walk so tall For years and even now they pray to watch me fall Their pretty words and ways give me the leading vision Doing like change, I just like to sum all the factoration Their breath is wasted, such a bitter pill to choke on Their time is fleeting back, they're waiting for my swan song Tearing me down, won't love or raise you any higher (Bridge) Criticize, condemned, complain The mirror shows who takes the blame (Chorus) The language you speak is dead Dishonored, disgraced The language you speak is dead Damaged, buried The language you speak is dead Indifference, forgotten The language you speak is dead There's never been a war where all they want such blood (Verse) Still dreaming demise and you'll see it, you'll see it The last put our first signs, they believe it, believe it ‘Cause deeper inside if you let it, you let it You speak of the end and you'll get it, you'll get it Cheering their wakes will never raise you higher You only damn yourself You only damn yourself! (Bridge) Criticize, condemned, complain The mirror shows who takes the blame (Chorus) The language you speak is dead Dishonored, disgraced The language you speak is dead Damaged, buried The language you speak is dead Indifference, forgotten The language you speak is dead There's never been a war where all they want such blood When you kill trust
