The Smolensk air disaster occurred on 10 April 2010, when a Tupolev Tu-154 aircraft of the Polish Air Force crashed near the Russian city of Smolensk, killing all 96 people on board. Among the victims were the President of Poland Lech Kaczyński and his wife Maria, the former President of Poland in exile Ryszard Kaczorowski, the chief of the Polish General Staff and other senior Polish military officers, the president of the National Bank of Poland, Polish Government officials, 18 members of the Polish Parliament, senior members of the Polish clergy and relatives of victims of the Katyn massacre. The group was arriving from Warsaw to attend an event commemorating the 70th anniversary of the massacre, which took place not far from Smolensk.
The pilots were attempting to land at Smolensk North Airport—a former military airbase—in thick fog, with visibility reduced to about 500 metres (1,600 ft). The aircraft descended far below the normal approach path until it struck trees, rolled inverted and crashed into the ground, coming to rest in a wooded area a short distance from the runway.

On July 19, 1989, the DC-10 (registered as N1819U) serving the flight crash-landed at Sioux City, Iowa, after suffering a catastrophic failure of its tail-mounted engine, which led to the loss of many flight controls. Of the 296 passengers and crew on board, 112 died during the accident, while 184 people survived. The crash was the fifth-deadliest one involving the DC-10, behind Turkish Airlines Flight 981, American Airlines Flight 191, Air New Zealand Flight 901, and UTA Flight 772. Despite the deaths, the accident is considered a prime example of successful crew resource management because of the large number of survivors and the manner in which the flight crew handled the emergency and landed the airplane without conventional control.

Dear friends and followers, welcome back to my channel and to a great video about the famous BLACK BOX or Flight Data Recorder.
So what is this black box they always seem to be looking for?
The black box is very often split into two black boxes which will help the investigators to determine what and how it led to the accident.
Each box weighs roughly twenty-pound and each has the size of a shoebox.
One of them is the CVR, cockpit voice recorder. Picture a classic tape recorder with four microphone cables attached to it. One leading into the radio control panels, to record any communication between the pilots and the air traffic controllers. One recording all conversation via the intercom within the cockpit and another one leading to the overhead panel microphone, recording ambient sounds of the cockpit such as engines and aural warnings.
When does it, and how much does it record?
It automatically starts recording if in flight and on ground when at least one engine is running and for a few minutes after the last engine was shut down. But on most planes, you have to the option to manually start CVR by pressing a button on its respective panel.
The CVR records the last two hours of crew conversation and communication with ATC. So whenever you arrive at the gate and shut down the engines you could listen to the last two hours of conversation. You can´t within in the cockpit, you would have to detach the recorder from its housing and place into a special docking station to listen to it.
Funny enough Airbus and Boeing models have a "CVR Erase" button, once you press that, all latest recordings get erased.
The other recorder or second black box is the flight data recorder.
The Flight Data Recorder, also known as ADR, the accident data recorder records data at a much larger scale.
Now the FAA regulates, that the FDR must monitor at least eighty-eight important parameters such altitude, airspeed, heading, aircraft attitude for a minimum of 25 hours.
Nowadays, FDRs made by Honeywell, for instance, can record up to 1000 in-flight parameters and characteristics such as flap position, auto-pilot modes, weather radar readouts and much much more to aid the investigators. This then allows the retrieved data from the FDR to generate a computer-animated video, reconstructing the flight before and during the crash. Which can look similar to this animation.
So the combination of the visual part by the FDR and the audio by the CVR enables a realistic picture for the investigators. So With the collected data from both recorders, the investigators determine whether an accident was caused by pilot error, by an external event (such as wind shear), or airplane technical failures.
