Best Book for Learning Hebrew | Learning Biblical Hebrew by Kutz and Josberger
There are a lot of good books for learning biblical Hebrew. In this video, I tell you about why this one is my favorite. That book is Learning Biblical Hebrew by Karl V. Kutz and Rebekah L. Josberger published by Lexham Press, 2018. It has everything and more you want in a grammar. This is my go to book when I teach Hebrew or just need a refresher.

In this episode I examine Biblical Hebrew and Biblical Aramaic - the languages of the Hebrew Bible (or "Old Testament") - and see how similar they are!
In this video I did my best to pronounce Biblical Hebrew and Aramaic with their original full range of phonemes, including sound distinctions that you won't hear in Modern Hebrew. If you know some Modern Hebrew (or a modern form of Aramaic) the pronunciation in this video will sound different. I'm sure I didn't do it perfectly, but I tried to make it as authe...

Mother Earth and Father Sky in Early Semitic History / Religion / Language.
My “PHD Thesis / Defence” of a long time hobby and passion project, I am very happy with this presentation.
People tend not to know that the word for “Heaven” in Hebrew means “of water”, that dew comes from it, birds fly on it, and that the word has direct lineage from the name of a Male Father Sky God predating Hebrew by over 2000 years (An of the Sumerians and the Empire of Sumer)
And people also tend not to know the Hebrew word for Earth has direct descendeny for the word for “Earth” and the name of the Mother Earth Goddess, Ki, of the Sumerians who was married to the aforementioned Masculine Sky God.
This presentation both demonstrates the history of the language, but also how early Semitic language speakers - including both early Hebrew and Arabic speakers around 1200- 1500 bce -...

Psalm 104 is the most viewed traditional Jewish chant (played live) on YouTube.
It is from the Book of Psalms of the Bible and is understood to be a hymn of creation, in all the fulness wherein God has created it - it speaks of animals, plants, waters, skies, etc.
This rare Psalm was first recorded in 2011 for Yamma's first album.
The live video was recorded a year after in 2012.

Yonnie Dror, who plays the wind instruments in Yamma found this magical chant in an old book of Jewish chants. The Jerusalem Babylonian version, in which frequent changes occur in rhythm, caught his ear, intrigued him to explore and learn deeply this unique ancient psalm which originated in the Jewish community of Iraq. (Yonnie's father immigrated to Jerusalem from Iraq during the 50s).
Yonnie wrote a full arrangement for the five-member ensemble. The group has recorded the psalm and set it free from the old book to the global online net. The hymn became a YouTube hit, just before falling into oblivion.
The beautiful performance received high attention and a warm embrace. millions of views and thousands of exciting comments from countless listeners and numerous music lovers from all religions and cultures.
𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝑷𝒔𝒂𝒍𝒎 104
The melody of this song is traditional by the community of Babylonian Jews.
it was passed down from generation to generation through the history of prayers in the synagogues. The frequent changes in rhythm and other signs proves the composition is based on the oral praying text of prayers in synagogues. The core of this music was the text, reading the Psalm.
In this link a Jewish Iraqi cantor who sings this prayer in the original way without music - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lr5IDbj9Rj8
The arrangement of the ensemble tries to give the same historical and ancient feeling
(using ancient instruments) and at the same time bring a touch of our contemporary times

I'm sure I didn't do it perfectly, but I tried to make it as authentic as possible.

Atsula lefanim by Rabbi Avraham ben Ezra (12th century) was adopted by Yemenite Jews into the "Tachalal", the Yemenite prayer book for praising the Holy Torah.
The song is performed in a state of joy and transcendence of the soul during the time of year on which the Torah scrolls are taken out of the ark and read at night on Shavuot and Simchat Torah.
In some congregations, the Torah scrolls are carried out into the streets and the dancing may continue far into the evening.
The traditional performance of the song is in a structure of call & response.
The singer opens with the singing of the piyyut in a slow and measured melody, full of majesty and splendor,
And the entire audience responds with solemn singing to the chant after each house.
The first two stanzas of the poem deal with words of praise to theTorah.
The Jews of Yemen
____________________________________
Yemenite Jewish music has been an integral part of Yemenite Jewish culture since time immemorial. The Jews of Yemen have preserved a well-defined singing arrangement which includes the very poetic creation itself also involves a vocal and dance performance, accompanied by drumming on an empty tin-can (tankah) or a copper plate.
The Jews of Yemen, maintaining strict adherence to Talmudic and Maimonidean halakha, observed the gezeirah which prohibited playing musical instruments and "instead of developing the playing of musical instruments, they perfected singing and rhythm.
The Jews of Yemen are one of the most isolated and forgotten communities of the Jewish people. This vibrant Jewish community lived in Yemen until the mid-20th century, when almost all the inhabitants emigrated from Yemen and settled in Israel. Yemeni Jewish traditions claim that the Jewish settlement goes back to biblical times.
Scholars are fascinated by 'Yemenite-accented' Hebrew, regarding it as a very close to the Hebrew of biblical times; the Yemenite were the only Jewish community to have lived continuously - and insulated - in one country for at least two and half thousand years.
This songs of Yemenite Jews divide into men's songs and women's songs. Men's songs are usually sung in Hebrew and the women's songs always in Arabic
Men's songs come mainly from the Diwan, religious poetry book and mostly written by the renowned Rabbi shalom Shabazi in the Seventeenth century.
This songs collection was started in the eleventh century and has centered Jewish life ever since.
Women's songs in contrast are sung in every day Yemenite Arabic. Never taught to read or to write, women bared their souls in songs - their single outlet for passion in a rigid, conservative society.
They used flowery, Arabs verse for their hopeless flight into fantasy.
Yemenite girls were commonly forced to start married life as the second or third wife.
The women's songs are aching and sensual and often witty, angry and bitingly sarcastic

This presentation both demonstrates the history of the language, but also how early Semitic language speakers - including both early Hebrew and Arabic speakers around 1200- 1500 bce - when they saw dew or rain upon the earth would have considered that to be literally watching Mother Earth and Father Sky interacting, in the same sense of a masculine liquid inside a female body led to pregnancy. I provide some evidence of this basic understanding, including in some of the earliest Hebrew writings.
It’s been a really wonderful project and I think a lot of People - and especially Women and Girls - would really appreciate knowing this information.
FYI I studied Classical Hebrew at the University Level, and also have a Literary Arts Degree from Brown University of the Ivy League. This is scholarly historical and linguistic work. This is not my “religious musings.”
A few additional notes on the video:
- On the Dinger Cuniform Wiki page you can see the Cuniform - used as the word for Sky and name of the Father Sky God - was also used as the preposition “to” as in “I’m talking to you.” Interestingly, the Hebrew word for “a god” - El - functions the same way. Given the masculine divinity associated here with the “of water / Dewey” air / heaven, that’s interesting to consider given air is a major medium of communication, especially for speech. It may explain why the Masculine Sky God is the “talking god”, the primary name Ehyeh (I am) and YHWH (He Is) from the root HYH (Being) all sound like a breath of air. The New Testament famously uses the expression God was the Word, for instance, and in the beginning there was the word.
- That term “window of heaven” is typically used in conjunction with the expression “and it rained.” Such as the story of the Flood - the “windows of heaven” opened up and it then says it started raining. It’s a figure if speech / metaphor, of which there are thousands in scripture.
- Let (the darkness above the water) be light is a valid translation / understanding, and the notion of a wind parting the waters allowing light from molten earth beneath would not be the only major idea regarding parted waters in scripture.
- The “Rakia” spans below the clouds to above the sun, moon, and stars (which are in it). While back then they likely didn’t have any conception of the distance / size of the sun, moon, and stars - they were aware they were far far beyond the cloud region. Keep this in mind in the question regarding the wind.
- Job 37:11 “He loads his clouds with moisture, he scatters lightning through them. At his command they swirl over the face of the earth…he brings the clouds to punish people or to show his love by watering the earth… 14 Listen to this, Job!
Stand and consider the marvels of God! 15 Do you know how god controls the storms and makes the lightning? 16 Do you know how the clouds are banked, the marvels of him who is perfect in knowledge? 17 You who swelter in your clothes as a hush falls upon the land with the south wind? (hot heat, Calm before the storm). 18 Can you spread out his powerful thunderstorms (shakakim hazakim), that give the appearance of a (swirling) molten material? 19 “Teach us then what we shall say to him; we cannot, for the darkness, make our plea.” 20 Will he be told about it when I speak? Can anyone talk when he is being destroyed? 21/22 Rather, it is as the light that cannot be seen while it is obscured by the clouds, till the north wind comes and blows them away - and gods awesome majesty comes in golden rays / splendor.
- clarification: Shemesh / Sun (BDB) “from an unused root.” Previously on Bible Hub (remains in archived form on other sites) in BDB and Strongs “from unused root meaning Brilliance.” From the Akkadian Shamash - Masculine God of Sun. Constructed “Of Fire” as compared to “Of Water” Shamayim / Shamu, alternatively (less likely) abbreviated “High in the Shamayim Fire”. BDB and Strongs previously on Bible hub (and still on other sites) “from an unused root meaning lofty” - now “from an unused root.l
- In Gen 1 the term “bara” / create is used only in relation to those Aretz and Shamayim and their “Toledoth” (children / generations / descendants) - plants, birds, ocean life, land animals, people.
- Ed (fog) comes from the root Ud, a firebrand, implying its creation in relation to fire/ evaporation.
