Churchill School is a boys' high school located in the Eastlea suburb of Harare, Zimbabwe. The school had the first school pipe band in Zimbabwe and produces cricket players of national and international calibre.
At one time, the school's pipe band was in the Guinness Book of Records for the longest piping hours. Pipers Neville Workman, Patrick Forth, Paul Harris and Clive Higgins blew their pipes for a combined 100 hours in July 1976, breaking the previous record of eighty hours.
History
Founded in 1950 as Salisbury East Boys' High School, headmaster E.J. 'Jeeves' Hougaard helped inspire most of Churchill's traditions. Hougaard is credited with establishing the name of the school and its affiliation to Winston Churchill and his family, and the school mascot, the bulldog. The school was established using the name Eastlea Boys High School and operated at Roosevelt Girls High for the first two terms while a block was being built at Eastlea Boys High. It happened then that the headmaster, Mr. Hougaard, wrote to the then Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Sir Winston Spencer Churchill, to rename the Eastlea Boys High School after him and the permission was granted. Since then the school has been known as Churchill School. Two boarding Houses which had about 180 pupils, were named Winston and Spencer houses. The games houses (Akroyd, Beaumont, Cardell, Hamilton, Maxwell and Wakeham) recall pilots who died in the Battle of Britain. These houses compete in sports and cultural activities for the prestigious Governor's Cup.
Harare (/həˈrɑːreɪ/; officially called Salisbury until 1982) is the capital and most populous city of Zimbabwe. Situated in the north-east of the country in the heart of historic Mashonaland, the city has an estimated population of 1,606,000 (2009), with 2,800,000 in its metropolitan area (2006). Administratively, Harare is a metropolitan province, which also incorporates Chitungwiza town and Epworth. It is situated at an elevation of 1,483 metres (4,865feet) and its climate falls into the subtropical highland category.
The city was founded in 1890 by the Pioneer Column, a small military force in the service of the British South Africa Company, and named Fort Salisbury after the British Prime Minister Lord Salisbury. Company administrators demarcated the city and ran it until Southern Rhodesia achieved responsible government in 1923. Salisbury was thereafter the seat of the Southern Rhodesian (later Rhodesian) government and, between 1953 and 1963, the capital of the Central African Federation. It retained the name Salisbury until 1982, when it was renamed Harare on the second anniversary of Zimbabwean independence.

My trip to Zimbabwe was cut short (by me) after an unfortunate encounter with the Zimbabwean Presidential Police. Join me as I recollect the harrowing story over breakfast, explore a local dog park, and wander the streets of Harare looking for statues with which to take selfies.
I hope to visit Zimbabwe again in the near future and give the country another chance. I acted hastily and ended up regretting it. I am sure that my next trip to this beautiful country will be much better.

Zimbabwe's economic woes threaten Harare's dreams of being a 'sustainable city'
Harare, once dubbed the "Sunshine City" for its cleanliness and order, is now dealing with consistent declines in the quality of basic services. Problems like waste collection and disposal, crumbling water and sanitation infrastructure, and air pollution all weaken the city's status as a "sustainable city" by UN standards.

The city covers an area of about 981 km2 and is located in the northeastern part of the country in the Mashonaland region. The City which rests on a plateau is elevated at 1,483 meters above sea level and has a subtropical highland climate.
Zimbabwe's capital Harare is ranked among the five worst African cities to live in. That's according to The Economist in its latest Global Liveability Report. Residents know it by the misleading nickname The Sunshine City. But Harare is battling a number of challenges to restore its former glory. CGTN's Farai Mwakutuya has the story.

Zimbabwe's 90-year-old President Robert Mugabe fell down a staircase on Wednesday as he walked off a podium after addressing supporters at Harare International Airport, an AFP corrrespondent said. Watch. Subscribe to News24: https://www.youtube.com/user/News24Video

🥒 ABOUT BEFRS:
Hey, I’m Sonny! I’m from the US but I’ve been living in Asia for 10 years and started making food and travel videos to document my experiences. I travel to different parts of the world, hunting down and documenting the most unique food each country has to offer.
If you see any factual food errors in my videos, please feel free to politely let me know in the comments. I'm a huge fan of trying different, interesting foods in each country. My show is from a Western point of view, but more importantly, MY point of view. It is not meant to offend any person or culture.

In today's video, I will be visiting and touring Zimbabwe's Most Privilege & Luxurious Estate for the Wealthy.
In zimbabwe, homes increase in size and value toward the north. unlike the episodes in zimbabwe, the wealthy neighborhoods are concentrated in Harare's northern suburbs, home to the more affluent population of the city including former president Robert Mugabe.

Bubble gum and house parties When you stole your parents rum And tried to screw everything that could breathe Back in high school we didn't have a whole lot to do We watched the world go by on the television screen Said it's the 90's kids that's way out this is way in Go beat each other up on the dance floor Told us drugs were no good But then we smoked 'em and liked 'em So much that we smoked a little more We liked 'em so much, we smoked a little more Did I call your name? Did you hear me singin' that song that I wrote for you? You're so the same but your so different I didn't recognize you It's kinda hard with all that sexual confusion Sometimes you don't know if you're gay or straight But what's the difference, it's a wonderful illusion Most times you won't make it past second base I'm in a band, we kinda suck but we don't now it yet And I don't care anyway 'Cuz soon, I'm gonna sell these drums, pay my rent Support my kid and tell him all about way back in daddy's day I'll tell him all about way back in daddy's day Did I call your name? Did you hear me singin' that song that I wrote for you? You're so the same but your so different I didn't recognize you Some years later by a soda coolerator In a corner store back in my home town This stranger smiles at me, said "Remember the class of '93?" And for some reason it makes him look real proud After all the good times he said we had He looks at me, scratches his head And asked me where the hell I ever went And the funny thing is that I never even knew him But he coulda been any one of my high school friends Did I call your name? Did you hear me singin' that song that I wrote for you? Your so the same but your so different I didn't recognize you Did I call you name? Singin' that song that I wrote for you Singin' that song I wrote for you
