:This article is about the development in Birmingham, England. For the suburb in South Africa, see Park Central, Gauteng.
Park Central is a large development under construction on the outskirts of Birmingham city centre in England.
The Lee Bank area on which Park Central is located, had become rundown over time and required redevelopment. As a result, Crest Nicholson decided to develop the area with new mid and high rise properties. Numerous 1960s residential buildings were demolished including Haddon Tower which was destroyed on July 23, 2006. Construction began in late 2005 with the levelling of the land and completion is expected in 2014 with a final cost of £200 million.
Two supermarket chains, Tesco and Asda, have submitted proposals for stores in the development. The Asda proposal includes a 25 storey spiral shaped tower with concrete core with a glass wall curving up it. This will be the tallest building in the complex if approved and completed. The Tesco proposal consists of a curved midrise building at the junction of two roads. It will contain residential apartments and an open area to the rear. A multi-storey section will be located at the shortest part of the building which will be known as Monaco House.
It was established in 1857 on 778 acres (315ha) of city-owned land. In 1858, Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, two soon-to-be famed national landscapers and architects, won a design competition to improve and expand the park with a plan they titled the "Greensward Plan". Construction began the same year and the park's first area was opened to the public in the winter of 1858. Construction continued during the American Civil War further south, and was expanded to its current size of 843 acres (341ha) in 1873.
The approval of the tower was controversial due to the plot ratio concessions made by the Perth City Council to the developers. These concessions enabled the developers to construct a tower more than twice the height which would otherwise be allowable on the site. There was also opposition to the Council's decision to ignore its own town planning experts in allowing a large car park to be constructed underneath the site.
The building is formed by a composite steel and concrete frame, with various setbacks in its profile, meaning the upper floors are much smaller in area than lower levels. Outrigger trusses at the top of the building and at the various setbacks help to stiffen the building's reinforced concrete core against the strong winds prevalent in the area. The base of the building features a small park, for which the tower is named.

Park central hotel review New York City
Park central New York hotel review
870 7th Ave, New York, NY 10019
The hotel is nice , really pretty, housekeeping comes every day , has a nice lobby with a restaurant, and nice city views from the window. The only perks are the long lines for the elevator, which is slow and small . The second perk is you can’t choose to use the heat or AC , the hotel decides when to turn it on . Besides that I enjoyed my stay .

Built during The Roaring Twenties, the Park Central Hotel New York once accommodated and entertained some of the most influential figures of the day -- from Jackie Gleason and Mae West to Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, even First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Today's guests are invited to escape the busy city life in exchange for the serenity that awaits them at the Park Central Hotel New York -- newly renovated and inspired by the iconic Central Park and renowned New York City landmarks.
Thanks to an immense multi-million-dollar renovation, the Park Central Hotel New York unveiled its updated new look in October 2013, welcoming guests to its gracious new accommodations and public spaces inspired by Central Park and other iconic New York locations. The design echoes the elegance of a bygone era, but with a fresh, contemporary attitude -- the re-imagined lobby, stunning lounge, Park Kitchen, our entirely new Signature Restaurant concept and Central Market, an inventive "grab-and-go" shop are just a sample of the cutting-edge spaces created by award-winning architecture and design firm, Jeffrey Beers International.
The redesign also unveiled Park Central Hotel New York's 761 guest rooms and suites, glamorously reimagined. Handsomely outfitted with dark stained millwork details, tufted fabric headboards, and sharp, geometrically-patterned carpets, each guest room features red-walled bathrooms adorned with white porcelain tiles arranged in a piano-like pattern, a playful homage to nearby Carnegie Hall. Amenities throughout have been meticulously updated to reflect a warm respect for the past, with a bold step toward the future. The thoughtfully conceived design showcases a modern and elegant interior inspired by the hotel's urban environment.

If you’ve been to New York, you’ve probably visited Central Park. But there’s a part of its story you won't see.

Central Park Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia
New York City’s Central Park, which is made up of lakes, gardens, and meadows, spans more than 50 blocks. It was originally envisioned as a space where anyone – no matter what their station in life – could meditate and interact. These days, America’s most famous urban center hosts over 30 million visitors per year.
You’ll find a multitude of things to do if you’re sightseeing in Central Park. Sit down for a picnic on the Great Lawn, or wander through the park’s bridges and pathways, looking for its many sculptures. If you know where to look, you’ll find Hans Christian Andersen and Balto the sled dog. Traveling with a loved one? Why not share a kiss at the Bethesda Fountain and Terrace? Alternatively, you can rent a boat from Loeb Boathouse and attempt to impress your sweetheart with a tri...

If you’ve been to New York, you’ve probably visited Central Park. But there’s a part of its story you won't see.
It’s a story that goes back to the 1820s, when that part of New York was largely open countryside. Soon it became home to about 1,600 people. Among them was a predominantly black community that bought up affordable plots to build homes, churches and a school. It became known as Seneca Village. And when Irish and German immigrants moved in, it became a rare example at the time of an integrated neighborhood.
Everything changed on July 21, 1853. New York took control of the land to create what would become the first major landscaped park in the US -- they called it “The Central Park.”
In the Vox series Missing Chapter, Vox Senior Producer Ranjani Chakraborty revisits underreported and often overlooked moments from the past to give context to the present. Join her as she covers the histories that are often left out of our textbooks. Our first season tackles stories of racial injustice, political conflicts, even the hidden history of US medical experimentation.

Alternatively, you can rent a boat from Loeb Boathouse and attempt to impress your sweetheart with a trip around the lake.
If you’re a fan of Shakespeare’s plays, your Central Park tour must pause at the Shakespeare Garden, which features the flora and fauna mentioned in his works. Beatles fans, don’t forget to pay homage at the Strawberry Fields Memorial, a 2.5-acre section of the park dedicated to the memory of John Lennon.
It’s safe to say that there’s something in Central Park for just about everyone. Whether you’re sending a remote-controlled boat across the Conservatory Waters or admiring the view from Belvedere Castle, you’ll find a number of wonderful ways to spend your day.

Today Michael Wyetzner of Michielli + Wyetzner Architects joins AD in New York for an in-depth walking tour of Central Park. Everything in Central Park got there by considered choice, not by nature, and the park as we know it today is the result of a design competition held in the 1850s. Information: Explore the iconic Central Park in this immersive walking tour, starting from the southern entrance and weaving through the park’s most famous landmarks. From the tranquil beauty of The Pond to the vibrant Bethesda Terrace and the picturesque Bow Bridge, this tour covers both well-known spots and hidden gems.
History: Central Park, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux, opened in 1858 and was the first major landscaped public park in the United States. This 843-acre green space was created to provide New Yorkers with a peaceful retreat from the bustling city. Highlights along the tour include the historic Gapstow Bridge (13:02), offering classic views of the Manhattan skyline, and the Bethesda Terrace (49:31), often regarded as the heart of Central Park with its intricate carvings and stunning views of the Bethesda Fountain. The Bow Bridge (1:06:38), with its distinctive cast-iron design, is one of the most photographed bridges in the world.
Tourist Tips:
Start your tour at The Pond (4:55) for a quiet, scenic introduction to Central Park’s southern section.
Don’t miss the iconic Gapstow Bridge (13:02), which provides fantastic photo opportunities with the city skyline in the background.
Stop by the Bethesda Terrace (49:31) to take in the stunning views of the Bethesda Fountain and enjoy any live performances in the area.
Cross the elegant Bow Bridge (1:06:38) and head towards the Conservatory Water (1:23:01), where you can watch model boats on the serene pond.
Visit the Belvedere Castle (1:39:23) for panoramic views of the park and the surrounding skyline.
End your tour at the famous Imagine Mosaic (3:00:45) in Strawberry Fields, a tribute to John Lennon, before relaxing in Sheep Meadow (3:10:08).

Central Park in New York City attracts more than 38 million visitors each year. That makes these 843 acres the most visited park in the United States. It's also the most frequently filmed location in the entire world.
Main attractions of the park include the Ramble and Lake, Hallett Nature Sanctuary, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, and Sheep Meadow. For something fun to ride/do, check out Wollman Rink, Central Park Carousel, and the Central Park Zoo. Get photos or ceremonies done inside the Central Park Mall and Bethesda Terrace. Catch Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte Theater each summer. Finally, get your game on at the awesome sports facilities, North Meadow Recreation Center, basketball courts, baseball fields, soccer fields and world-famous Central Park Tennis Center.

Before Central Park was built, a historic black community was destroyed.
Help our reporting on hidden histories. Submit a story idea here: http://bit.ly/2RhjxMy
Have an idea for a story that Ranjani should investigate for Missing Chapter? Send it to her via this form! http://bit.ly/2RhjxMy

First few horns and the squeak of brakes Knock on the door and the city wakes But you, you're still sleeping And you, you're in love Painting a pretty picture How I wish, more of this were drew But you, you're in London And you, you're still in love Fuck this, I'm a go out walking Rent a bike and make a few laps in Central Park in the dark Love is just a memory Love along the shadow in my heart, in my heart This is where you'll stay, while I'm at the Hudson I'd like to see my name above the door It says we, we're still in Brooklyn And we, we're never in but you're always welcome
