In modern usage, a cèilidh or ceilidh/ˈkeɪli/ is a traditional Gaelic social gathering, which usually involves playing Gaelic folk music and dancing. It originated from Ireland and Scotland, but is now common throughout the Scottish and Irishdiasporas, as well as throughout England in a fusion with English country dance. In Scottish Gaelic it is spelled cèilidh (Scottish Gaelic pronunciation:[ˈkʲʰeːli]), and in Irish it is spelled céilí (Irish pronunciation:[ˈceːlʲiː]).
Originally, a ceilidh was a social gathering of any sort, and did not necessarily involve dancing.
In more recent decades, the dancing portion of the event has usurped the older meanings of the term, though the tradition of guests performing music, song, story telling and poetry still persists in some areas.
The Virginia Reel is one of Ceilidh Tree's all time favourite ceilidh dances. We usually include it early on in a set as it's so quick to teach and also helps us start with a bit of a bang! Learn more about ceilidh band Ceilidh Tree at https://ceilidhtree.co.uk

It works great as a wedding ceilidh first dance with the bride and groom at the top of the set receiving an extra loud whoop when they gallop down. It incorporates elements of Scottish, Irish and English dances so we can get away with including it whatever the occasion!

☘️Céilidh Music~(Irish Reels) ~ Des McKeogh's Céilidh Band ~ Traditional Irish Music ~ Céili Music
This Medley of Reels "Sheenhans/Merry Blacksmith/ Music in The Glen" by Des McKeogh's Ceilidh Band is taken from the album 'Irish Céilidh Favourites.
The term is derived from the Old Irish céle (singular) meaning "companion". It later became céilidhe and céilidh. @bluedotmusic
Céilidhs facilitated courting and prospects of marriage for young people and, although discos and nightclubs have displaced céilidhs to a considerable extent, they are still an important and popular social outlet in rural parts of Ireland and Scotland, especially in the Gaelic-speaking regions. Céilidhs are sometimes held on a smaller scale in private or public houses, for example in remote rural hinterlands and during busy festivals.
Music may be provided by an assortment of fiddle, flute, tin whistle, accordion, b...

As a very busy ceilidh band we've witnessed more than a few gallops in our time... The best emerge spontaneously from those dancefloors where couples try to outdo each other in creating ever wackier ways of making that final journey. Roly polys, back flips, moonwalks, gangnams, fireman's lifts, manically legging it down the set or just an understated body pop.
Our version of Virginia Reel is a tweak on the classic, perhaps not for the ceilidh purists as it loses the usual casting out section. This means we can get it going quicker, fit everything into 32 bars of high octane revelry and put greater focus on the all important gallop.
If you're looking for a ceilidh band for your wedding, Scottish or Irish event, barn dance or other shindig then we'd love to hear from you - full details at https://ceilidhtree.co.uk

The music is based upon various folksongs, most of which are from Scotland, Ireland or the north of England and many of these ‘fiddling’ tunes are pentatonic in nature making the tunes at once familiar and yet also somehow different. Most are dance tunes, reels and jigs such as Uist Tramping Song, To the Weavers Gin Ye Go, Dance To Your Daddy, The Lewis Bridal Song, Highland Laddie. The tunes are mixed together in a foot tapping dance medley until the slow lament section. The slow middle section is based on a beautiful tune, O Waly Waly (oh woe is me) a lament on love that has been forsaken, and is known in a contemporary version as The Water Is Wide. The allegro finale starts with a march and then becomes a rip roaring free for all as all the tunes presented compete to be heard, like the hustle and bustle of a good party, and eventually soaring above them all can be heard O Waly Waly, now turned into an anthem of praise.

Satu yang kudamba Harapan jiwaku Hadirnya dirimu Datangnya bayangmu Menyentuh jiwa ini Menghanyutkan semua angan Apa yang ku cari Hanyalah asaku Kepada dirimu Seluruh hidupku Berikan kepadaku Setitik rasa itu Aku mencoba Ungkap rasa ini Karna ku tak sanggup Tak mampu tuk berbicara Begitu berat untuk ku katakan Tak sanggup ku menatapmu Terlalu indah bagiku Adakah berarti Diriku bagimu Akankah hatimu terbuka untukku Di mana celah itu Kan ku beri sinarku Takkan hatiku berharap Bila suatu saat nanti Semua kan terjadi
