Border Security Force
The Border Security Force (BSF) (Hindi: सीमा सुरक्षा बल) is the primary Border police force of India. It is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces of the Union of India, it was raised in the wake of the 1965 War on 1 December 1965, "for ensuring the security of the borders of India and for matters connected there with". It is a Central Armed Police Force charged with guarding India's land border during peace time and preventing transnational crime. It is a Union Government Agency under the administrative control of Ministry of Home Affairs. The BSF has its own cadre of officers but its head, designated as a Director-General (DG), since its raising has been an officer from the Indian Police Service. It is an Armed Force of the Union of India tasked with various assignments from time to time. The BSF has grown exponentially from a few battalions in 1965, to 186 battalions with a strength of 2.4 lakh (240,000) personnel including an expanding air wing, marine wing, artillery regiments, and commando units. It currently stands as the world's largest border guarding force. BSF has been termed as the First Wall of Defence of Indian Territories.

Border Security Force (Water Wing) is one of the special units of Border Security Force of India.
It is responsible for patrolling riverine borders in North Bengal frontier, South Bengal frontier, Andaman Nicobar frontier, Tripura, Mizoram & Cachhar (TMC) Frontier, Jammu frontier, Punjab frontier and Gujarat frontier of the BSF. The Water Wing guards around 1399 km of riverine boundary of India.

The Border Security Force (BSF) is the primary border defense organization of India, tasked with guarding the country's land borders during peacetime and preventing trans-border crimes. These tools are used primarily for crowd control and to subdue non-compliant individuals without causing serious injury or death. The BSF has grown exponentially from a few battalions in 1965, to 186 battalions with a sanctioned strength of 257,363 personnel including an expanding air wing, marine wing, artillery regiments, and commando units. It currently stands as the world's largest border guarding force. BSF has been termed as the First Line of Defence of Indian Territories.

IMPORTANCE OF TRAINING IN BSF
Border Security Force, one of the largest Para-Military forces in the World, is a versatile force, which is responsible for guarding round the clock vast and volatile borders not only against trans-border criminals but also against heavily armed trans-border terrorism as well. Though guarding the borders is the prime commitment, security forces remain heavily and decisively involved in the interior as well in combating insurgency and militancy in various parts of the country. Because of its friendly and human face, BSF remains the much sough after Force for combating and containing serious law and order situations in the trouble prone States. And in case of hot War, BSF works as a force multiplier and contributes substantially towards over all War efforts of the nation as a credible front line Force.
MAJOR TRAINING INSTITUTIONS
For organizing and carrying out "Basic Fundamental" training and "In Service Professional Training", we have three (03) main training Institutions, (05) Special Training Schools and (11) STCs/BTCs spread across the Country. Three main training Institutions are :-
"BSF ACADEMY TEKANPUR" (KHARAKWASLA OF BSF) is situated on Gwalior-Jhansi Highway at a distance of 30 Kms. from Gwalior (M.P.). This is the almamiter of border-men.
"TRAINING CENTRE AND SCHOOL" (School of Excellence for Counter Insurgency and Commando Type Specilised Training) is located at Meru, 12 Kms. off Hazaribagh town. Meru Camp Hazaribagh is the craddle of specialised type training like Commando and Counter Insurgency.
"CENTRAL SCHOOL OF WEAPONS AND TACTICS" (School of Excellence for Small Arms) is located on the out-skirts of Indore on Bijasan Road, Here, we refine and sharpen the shooting skills of our 'PRAHARIES'.
TRAINING INSTITUTIONS FOR SPECIAL TRAINING
Besides above mentioned three training institutions there are five training schools for special training:-
CENTRAL SCHOOL OF MOTOR TRANSPORT (CSMT) GWALIOR (M.P.)
In order to maintain a high standard of functional efficiency and road worthiness of MT fleet in the Force, the Central School of Motor Transport popularly known as CSMT, was set up at Sagar (M.P.) in Jan'1963. Initially the School was under the supervision of MP Police and was taken over by BSF in Feb'71. This school continued to function at Sagar upto 18/11/1979 before shifting to its present location in Tekanpur. Spread over an area of 60 acres, this school of Motor Transport has developed as a prestigious Institution. School has been recognised as a "Centre of Excellence" by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Motor Training imparted in CSMT includes:-
Driving and Maintenance course.
Motor Vehicle mechanic course.
Auto Electrician course.
Fleet Management course (Officers)
BSF Recovery driver course.
NATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE FOR DOGS(NTCD)GWALIOR (MP.)
The National Training Centre for Dogs (NTCD) is a premier Training Institution run by BSF on behalf of MHA. The NTCD breeds service dogs, trains dogs and their handlers for BSF, other Central Police Organisation and State Police Organisations. The dogs are trained in basic obedience, narcotics and explosive detection, tracking, guard duties and patrolling. The dogs trained by NTCD have an enviable record of service. Some of the achievement at a glance:-
"HEARO" proud product of NTCD, ensured a seizure of more than Rs.100 crores for Bombay Customs.
"SONU", another proud product of NTCD, effected a seizure of 2.2 crores of high-grade hashish in 1997 at Delhi Airport.
Similarly 'SUKKA' seized 14 kgs of high-grade hashish valued of Rs.1.40 crores for Delhi Customs.
"FANTA" was instrumental in detecting 10 Kgs of RDX during Amarnath Yatra in 1993. Thus played a major role in averting what could have led to a major tragedy.
SIGNAL TRAINING SCHOOL-I TIGRI CAMP NEW DELHI
The Border Security Force, Signal Training School-I is located at Tigri Camp, New Delhi adjacent to Khanpur on M B Road.
SIGNAL TRAINING SCHOOL-II YELAHANKA (BANGALORE)
The STS-II BSF is located on Chaklate-Bangalore road near Yelahanka, 21 Kms off Bangalore town.
'G' TRAINING SCHOOL NEW DELHI
The BSF 'G' Training School is located at block 'C', Ist floor, Pushpa Bhawan (Madangir) in South Delhi.

Because of its friendly and human face, BSF remains the much sough after Force for combating and containing serious law and order situations in the trouble prone States. And in case of hot War, BSF works as a force multiplier and contributes substantially towards over all War efforts of the nation as a credible front line Force.
MAJOR TRAINING INSTITUTIONS
For organizing and carrying out "Basic Fundamental" training and "In Service Professional Training", we have three (03) main training Institutions, (05) Special Training Schools and (11) STCs/BTCs spread across the Country. Three main training Institutions are :-
"BSF ACADEMY TEKANPUR" (KHARAKWASLA OF BSF) is situated on Gwalior-Jhansi Highway at a distance of 30 Kms. from Gwalior (M.P.). This is the almamiter of border-men.
"TRAINING CENTRE AND SCHOOL" (School of Excellence for Counter Insurgency and Commando Type Specilised Training) is located at Meru, 12 Kms. off Hazaribagh town. Meru Camp Hazaribagh is the craddle of specialised type training like Commando and Counter Insurgency.
"CENTRAL SCHOOL OF WEAPONS AND TACTICS" (School of Excellence for Small Arms) is located on the out-skirts of Indore on Bijasan Road, Here, we refine and sharpen the shooting skills of our 'PRAHARIES'.
TRAINING INSTITUTIONS FOR SPECIAL TRAINING
Besides above mentioned three training institutions there are five training schools for special training:-
CENTRAL SCHOOL OF MOTOR TRANSPORT (CSMT) GWALIOR (M.P.)
In order to maintain a high standard of functional efficiency and road worthiness of MT fleet in the Force, the Central School of Motor Transport popularly known as CSMT, was set up at Sagar (M.P.) in Jan'1963. Initially the School was under the supervision of MP Police and was taken over by BSF in Feb'71. This school continued to function at Sagar upto 18/11/1979 before shifting to its present location in Tekanpur. Spread over an area of 60 acres, this school of Motor Transport has developed as a prestigious Institution. School has been recognised as a "Centre of Excellence" by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Motor Training imparted in CSMT includes:-
Driving and Maintenance course.
Motor Vehicle mechanic course.
Auto Electrician course.
Fleet Management course (Officers)
BSF Recovery driver course.
NATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE FOR DOGS(NTCD)GWALIOR (MP.)
The National Training Centre for Dogs (NTCD) is a premier Training Institution run by BSF on behalf of MHA. The NTCD breeds service dogs, trains dogs and their handlers for BSF, other Central Police Organisation and State Police Organisations. The dogs are trained in basic obedience, narcotics and explosive detection, tracking, guard duties and patrolling. The dogs trained by NTCD have an enviable record of service. Some of the achievement at a glance:-
"HEARO" proud product of NTCD, ensured a seizure of more than Rs.100 crores for Bombay Customs.
"SONU", another proud product of NTCD, effected a seizure of 2.2 crores of high-grade hashish in 1997 at Delhi Airport.
Similarly 'SUKKA' seized 14 kgs of high-grade hashish valued of Rs.1.40 crores for Delhi Customs.
"FANTA" was instrumental in detecting 10 Kgs of RDX during Amarnath Yatra in 1993. Thus played a major role in averting what could have led to a major tragedy.
SIGNAL TRAINING SCHOOL-I TIGRI CAMP NEW DELHI
The Border Security Force, Signal Training School-I is located at Tigri Camp, New Delhi adjacent to Khanpur on M B Road.
SIGNAL TRAINING SCHOOL-II YELAHANKA (BANGALORE)
The STS-II BSF is located on Chaklate-Bangalore road near Yelahanka, 21 Kms off Bangalore town.
'G' TRAINING SCHOOL NEW DELHI
The BSF 'G' Training School is located at block 'C', Ist floor, Pushpa Bhawan (Madangir) in South Delhi.

The Border Security Force (BSF) is India's border guarding organisation on its borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh. It is one of the seven Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) of India, and was raised in the wake of the 1965 war on December 1 1965, "for ensuring the security of the borders of India and for matters connected there with".
It has various active roles during an outbreak of war. It is the only CAPF to have a Water Wing, Air Wing and an Artillery Regiment. It comes under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The BSF has its own small force of officers or "Cadre". However, its head, designated as a Director-General (DG), has been an Indian Police Service officer since its establishment.[6] The BSF has grown exponentially from 25 battalions in 1965, to 192 battalions with a sanctioned strength of 270,363 personnel including an expanding air wing, Marine wing, an artillery regiment, and specialized units.[7][8] It currently stands as the world's largest and powerful border guarding force. BSF has been termed the First Line of Defence of Indian territories
History
Since independence, the protection of India's international boundaries was the responsibility of the local police belonging to each border state, with little inter-state coordination.[10] However, during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, Pakistan attacked Sardar Post, Chhar Bet, and Beria Bet on 9 April 1965 in Kutch. This attack exposed the inadequacy of the State Armed Police to cope with armed aggression. Thus, after the end of the war, the government created the Border Security Force as a unified central agency with the specific mandate of guarding India's international borders. This act brought greater cohesion in border security. K F Rustamji, from the Indian Police Service, was the first Director General of the BSF. Since it was a new force, the officers had to be deputed or inducted from outside to fill the various vacancies at various levels until the force's own cadre matured sufficiently. It was for this reason that emergency commissioned officers and SS officers of the Indian Army were inducted in large numbers into the force along with IPS officers who were deputed to the force for high level appointments.[10]
The BSF's capabilities were used in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 against Pakistani forces in areas where the Regular Forces were thinly spread; BSF troops took part in several operations including the famous Battle of Longewala. In fact, for BSF the war on the eastern front had started well before the war actually broke out in December 1971. BSF had trained, supported and formed part of Mukti Bahini and had entered erstwhile East Pakistan before the actual hostilities broke out. BSF had played a very important role in Liberation of Bangladesh which Indira Gandhi and Sheikh Mujibur Rehman had also acknowledged.

Deployment:
Indian Army: The Indian Army is deployed throughout the country, including the border areas, as well as in the conflict zones within India and during overseas peacekeeping missions.
Border Security Force (BSF): The BSF is primarily deployed along the international land borders of India, particularly with Pakistan and Bangladesh. They are responsible for border patrolling, surveillance, and maintaining peace and security in those regions.
Authority and Jurisdiction:
Indian Army: The Indian Army operates under the authority of the Ministry of Defence and has jurisdiction over the entire territory of India.
Border Security Force (BSF): The BSF operates under the authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs and has jurisdiction along the international land borders of India.

The Border Security Force (BSF) is the primary border defense organization of India, tasked with guarding the country's land borders during peacetime and preventing trans-border crimes. To carry out their mission, BSF personnel are equipped with a wide range of weapons and equipment that are specially designed to provide them with a tactical advantage over potential adversaries.
At the core of the BSF's arsenal are small arms such as assault rifles, submachine guns, and pistols. These weapons are designed to be lightweight, reliable, and accurate, allowing BSF personnel to engage targets effectively at short to medium ranges. The BSF's most commonly used assault rifle is the AK-47, a widely recognized and respected firearm that is known for its ruggedness and ease of maintenance. In addition to the AK-47, the BSF also uses variants of the INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) rifle, a domestically produced firearm that has been in service since the late 1990s.
For more specialized situations, the BSF also utilizes heavier weapons such as machine guns and grenade launchers. These weapons are typically mounted on vehicles or tripod stands, and provide the BSF with the ability to deliver devastating suppressive fire on enemy positions. One such weapon is the PKM machine gun, a Russian-made firearm that fires a 7.62x54mm round and can be used for both offensive and defensive purposes. The BSF also uses the AGS-30 automatic grenade launcher, which can fire up to 400 rounds per minute and is capable of engaging targets up to 1,700 meters away.
In addition to small arms and heavy weapons, the BSF also utilizes a variety of less-lethal weapons such as pepper spray, batons, and stun guns. These tools are used primarily for crowd control and to subdue non-compliant individuals without causing serious injury or death. The BSF's pepper spray is particularly effective, as it can incapacitate multiple targets at once and has a range of up to 10 meters.
To operate effectively in a variety of environments, the BSF also uses a range of support equipment such as night vision goggles, thermal imaging devices, and GPS systems. These tools allow BSF personnel to operate in low-light conditions, track targets over long distances, and navigate unfamiliar terrain with precision.
In conclusion, the weapons used by the BSF are an essential component of the organization's ability to defend India's land borders and maintain national security. From small arms to heavy weapons to less-lethal tools, the BSF's arsenal is designed to provide personnel with the ability to engage targets effectively and respond to a wide range of threats. Border Security Force - India’s First Line Of Defence | BSF Documentary Hindi.
The Border Security Force (BSF) is the primary border guarding force of India. It is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces of the Union of India, it was raised in the wake of the 1965 War on 1 December 1965, "for ensuring the security of the borders of India and for matters connected there with". It is a Central Armed Police Force charged with guarding India's land border during peacetime and preventing transnational crime. It is a Union Government Agency under the administrative control of Ministry of Home Affairs. The BSF has its own cadre of officers but its head, designated as a Director-General (DG), since its raising has been an officer from the Indian Police Service. It is an Armed Force of the Union of India tasked with various assignments from time to time. The BSF has grown exponentially from a few battalions in 1965, to 186 battalions with a sanctioned strength of 257,363 personnel including an expanding air wing, marine wing, artillery regiments, and commando units. It currently stands as the world's largest border guarding force. BSF has been termed as the First Line of Defence of Indian Territories.

The Border Security Force (BSF) is India's border guarding organisation on its border with Pakistan and Bangladesh. It is one of the seven Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) of India, and was raised in the wake of the 1965 war on 1 December 1965, "for ensuring the security of the borders of India and for matters connected there with".[5][6]
It has various active roles during an outbreak of war. It is the only CAPF to have a Water Wing, Air Wing and an Artillery Regiment. It comes under the Ministry of Home Affairs. The BSF has its own cadre of officers but its head, designated as a Director-General (DG), since its raising has been an officer from the Indian Police Service.[6] The BSF has grown exponentially from 25 battalions in 1965, to 192 battalions with a sanctioned strength of 270,363 personnel including an expanding Air wing, Marine wing, an artillery regiment, and specialized units.[7][8] It currently stands as the world's largest border guarding force. BSF has been termed as the First Line of Defence of Indian territories

IMPORTANCE OF TRAINING IN BSF
Border Security Force, one of the largest Para-Military forces in the World, is a versatile force, which is responsible for guarding round the clock vast and volatile borders not only against trans-border criminals but also against heavily armed trans-border terrorism as well. Though guarding the borders is the prime commitment, security forces remain heavily and decisively involved in the interior as well in combating insurgency and militancy in various parts of the country. Because of its friendly and human face, BSF remains the much sough after Force for combating and containing serious law and order situations in the trouble prone States. And in case of hot War, BSF works as a force multiplier and contributes substantially towards over all War efforts of the nation as a credible front line Force.
MAJOR TRAINING INSTITUTIONS
For organizing and carrying out "Basic Fundamental" training and "In Service Professional Training", we have three (03) main training Institutions, (05) Special Training Schools and (11) STCs/BTCs spread across the Country. Three main training Institutions are :-
"BSF ACADEMY TEKANPUR" (KHARAKWASLA OF BSF) is situated on Gwalior-Jhansi Highway at a distance of 30 Kms. from Gwalior (M.P.). This is the almamiter of border-men.
"TRAINING CENTRE AND SCHOOL" (School of Excellence for Counter Insurgency and Commando Type Specilised Training) is located at Meru, 12 Kms. off Hazaribagh town. Meru Camp Hazaribagh is the craddle of specialised type training like Commando and Counter Insurgency.
"CENTRAL SCHOOL OF WEAPONS AND TACTICS" (School of Excellence for Small Arms) is located on the out-skirts of Indore on Bijasan Road, Here, we refine and sharpen the shooting skills of our 'PRAHARIES'.
TRAINING INSTITUTIONS FOR SPECIAL TRAINING
Besides above mentioned three training institutions there are five training schools for special training:-
CENTRAL SCHOOL OF MOTOR TRANSPORT (CSMT) GWALIOR (M.P.)
In order to maintain a high standard of functional efficiency and road worthiness of MT fleet in the Force, the Central School of Motor Transport popularly known as CSMT, was set up at Sagar (M.P.) in Jan'1963. Initially the School was under the supervision of MP Police and was taken over by BSF in Feb'71. This school continued to function at Sagar upto 18/11/1979 before shifting to its present location in Tekanpur. Spread over an area of 60 acres, this school of Motor Transport has developed as a prestigious Institution. School has been recognised as a "Centre of Excellence" by the Ministry of Home Affairs. Motor Training imparted in CSMT includes:-
Driving and Maintenance course.
Motor Vehicle mechanic course.
Auto Electrician course.
Fleet Management course (Officers)
BSF Recovery driver course.
NATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE FOR DOGS(NTCD)GWALIOR (MP.)
The National Training Centre for Dogs (NTCD) is a premier Training Institution run by BSF on behalf of MHA. The NTCD breeds service dogs, trains dogs and their handlers for BSF, other Central Police Organisation and State Police Organisations. The dogs are trained in basic obedience, narcotics and explosive detection, tracking, guard duties and patrolling. The dogs trained by NTCD have an enviable record of service. Some of the achievement at a glance:-
"HEARO" proud product of NTCD, ensured a seizure of more than Rs.100 crores for Bombay Customs.
"SONU", another proud product of NTCD, effected a seizure of 2.2 crores of high-grade hashish in 1997 at Delhi Airport.
Similarly 'SUKKA' seized 14 kgs of high-grade hashish valued of Rs.1.40 crores for Delhi Customs.
"FANTA" was instrumental in detecting 10 Kgs of RDX during Amarnath Yatra in 1993. Thus played a major role in averting what could have led to a major tragedy.
SIGNAL TRAINING SCHOOL-I TIGRI CAMP NEW DELHI
The Border Security Force, Signal Training School-I is located at Tigri Camp, New Delhi adjacent to Khanpur on M B Road.
SIGNAL TRAINING SCHOOL-II YELAHANKA (BANGALORE)
The STS-II BSF is located on Chaklate-Bangalore road near Yelahanka, 21 Kms off Bangalore town.
'G' TRAINING SCHOOL NEW DELHI
The BSF 'G' Training School is located at block 'C', Ist floor, Pushpa Bhawan (Madangir) in South Delhi.

BSF has been termed the First Line of Defence of Indian territories
History
Since independence, the protection of India's international boundaries was the responsibility of the local police belonging to each border state, with little inter-state coordination.[10] However, during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, Pakistan attacked Sardar Post, Chhar Bet, and Beria Bet on 9 April 1965 in Kutch. This attack exposed the inadequacy of the State Armed Police to cope with armed aggression. Thus, after the end of the war, the government created the Border Security Force as a unified central agency with the specific mandate of guarding India's international borders. This act brought greater cohesion in border security. K F Rustamji, from the Indian Police Service, was the first Director General of the BSF. Since it was a new force, the officers had to be deputed or inducted from outside to fill the various vacancies at various levels until the force's own cadre matured sufficiently. It was for this reason that emergency commissioned officers and SS officers of the Indian Army were inducted in large numbers into the force along with IPS officers who were deputed to the force for high level appointments.[10]
The BSF's capabilities were used in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971 against Pakistani forces in areas where the Regular Forces were thinly spread; BSF troops took part in several operations including the famous Battle of Longewala. In fact, for BSF the war on the eastern front had started well before the war actually broke out in December 1971. BSF had trained, supported and formed part of Mukti Bahini and had entered erstwhile East Pakistan before the actual hostilities broke out. BSF had played a very important role in Liberation of Bangladesh which Indira Gandhi and Sheikh Mujibur Rehman had also acknowledged.
Border Security Force
The Border Security Force (BSF) (Hindi: सीमा सुरक्षा बल) is the primary Border police force of India. It is one of the five Central Armed Police Forces of the Union of India, it was raised in the wake of the 1965 War on 1 December 1965, "for ensuring the security of the borders of India and for matters connected there with". It is a Central Armed Police Force charged with guarding India's land border during peace time and preventing transnational crime. It is a Union Government Agency under the administrative control of Ministry of Home Affairs. The BSF has its own cadre of officers but its head, designated as a Director-General (DG), since its raising has been an officer from the Indian Police Service. It is an Armed Force of the Union of India tasked with various assignments from time to time. The BSF has grown exponentially from a few battalions in 1965, to 186 battalions with a strength of 2.4 lakh (240,000) personnel including an expanding air wing, marine wing, artillery regiments, and commando units. It currently stands as the world's largest border guarding force. BSF has been termed as the First Wall of Defence of Indian Territories.
