Young had many nicknames, among the most popular being "American Moses" (alternatively, the "Modern Moses" or the "Mormon Moses"), because, like the biblical figure, Young led his followers, the Mormon pioneers, in an exodus through a desert, to what they saw as a promised land. Young was dubbed by his followers the "Lion of the Lord" for his bold personality, and was also commonly called "Brother Brigham" by Latter-day Saints. Young was a polygamist and was involved in controversies regarding black people and the Priesthood, the Utah War, and the Mountain Meadows massacre.
The story begins in frontier-town Nauvoo, Illinois in 1844. It follows the main body of the Church as they are forced to leave Illinois, choosing to settle temporarily in Nebraska and then to travel by wagon train to the Great Basin. Much of the story's plot revolves around two of the group, Jonathan Kent and Zina Webb.

Polygamy Under Brigham Young w/ Lindsay Hansen Park & Bryan Buchanan | Ep. 1834

We examine how polygamy hindered missionary work and statehood, the harsh realities for women, the escalating conflicts with the US government, and the 1870s crackdown on plural marriage. Despite sympathizing with early Mormons, the hosts candidly critique problematic teachings and figures like Brigham Young. They argue that Mormonism still struggles from a reluctance to denounce past errors, which allows those har...

Did Brigham Young transform into Joseph Smith's appearance? We discuss the rise of Brigham Young from the “Transfiguration” that altered Mormonism's course. Mike, Nemo, and John explore this event by analyzing historical records, contemporary journals, and a carefully constructed narrative. We unveil the astonishing accounts of backdated miracles and the use of carefully worded descriptions in "Saints." Discover why the Transfiguration holds immense significance for Mormonism and how it guides the birth of miracle stories.

Brigham Young was a rough-hewn New York craftsman whose impoverished life was electrified by the Mormon faith. John G. Turner provides a fully realized portrait of this spiritual prophet, viewed by followers as a protector and by opponents as a heretic. His pioneering faith made a deep imprint on tens of thousands of lives in the American Mountain West.
We explore the tumultuous history of Mormonism after Joseph Smith's death, including Brigham Young's succession and controversial doctrines like polygamy and blood atonement. Lindsay Hansen Park and Bryan Buchanan guide us through the schisms, scandals and sexual dynamics of this era, from the chaotic leadership struggles in Nauvoo to the restrictive culture of polygamy in Utah. They argue that Mormonism still struggles from a reluctance to denounce past errors, which allows those harmful ideas to persist and hurt people today. This no-holds-barred journey illuminates a complex chapter of Mormon history.

Brigham Young was an important leader in the early years of the Mormon church, and led a several decade long term until his sudden death. This was created for a class project for a high school class.
What do historians who have studied Brigham Young have to say about his life and character?
Matthew Grow and Jenny Lund discuss his complexity and core commitments.
Joseph Smith had just been murdered, and the Saints in Nauvoo were fleeing persecution. It was now Brigham Young's turn to lead the Saints to safety. But where?
Did you know that Joseph Smith appeared to Brigham Young in a vision, showing him a hill with a flag on it? And have you ever seen the flag representing the Kingdom of God? Learn about this miraculous vision and much more in this video!

http://preparetoserve.com Little Known Facts About Brigham Young (My Great Great..Grandpa). Brigham Young, the second Mormon prophet, following the prophet Joseph Smith. Mormon is a nickname for member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. (LDS) Brigham Young was an incredible man who cared for and loved his family.
