Lee has been a prominent figure of the Hong Kong democracy movement on the international stage, especially in the United States. He is a controversial figure in Hong Kong. To human rights activists he has been labelled the "Father of Democracy" in Hong Kong. To Beijing officials, he has been labelled a "running dog of the colonialists".
After being a member of the Legislative Council for 23 years, Lee announced on 27 March 2008 that he would not seek re-election when his term ended in September of that year.
Biography
Lee was born in Hong Kong, the sixth of seven children, and raised in Guangzhou, China. He is the son of a former Kuomintang major general. After he graduated from Wah Yan College, Kowloon, Lee obtained his undergraduate BA degree in Philosophy at the University of Hong Kong. After graduation, he worked as a teacher for three years. He then studied law at Lincoln's Inn in London.
Lee was a promising junior, reaching No. 1 in the world junior rankings. In 1995 he won the Boys Doubles at Wimbledon. A left-hander, he turned pro in 1996. He struggled with constant knee and groin problems throughout his career, which eventually forced his retirement from the professional circuit in November 2006.
Lee's best singles result on the ATP Tour was to reach the final of the Hall of Fame Championships in Newport, Rhode Island in 2001. On 11 March 2002, Lee achieved his career-high singles ranking of World No. 94, establishing himself as the British number three behind Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski. It was the first time in 23 years that Britain had three players in the Top 100. However, in November 2002 he underwent knee surgery and was out of action for 10 months, and his ranking never recovered.
Lee reached the second round of the men's singles at Wimbledon four times, in 1997, 2000, 2001 and 2006. He appeared in the US Open in 2001, and managed to take two sets off of seeded player Sjeng Schalken, however the Dutchman prevailed 6-3 in the deciding set. Lee's ranking also ensured automatic qualification for the main draw of the Australian and French Opens in 2002, but he lost in the first round on both occasions. Overall he won 21 and lost 46 ATP Tour matches.
Lee Elwood Holdridge (born March 3, 1944) is an American composer and orchestrator.
Biography
Holdridge was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, of a Puerto Rican mother and an American father, the botanist and climatologist Dr. Leslie Holdridge. While living in Costa Rica, at age ten, he studied the violin with Hugo Mariani, who was at the time the conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra of Costa Rica. Holdridge then moved to Boston, where he finished high school and studied composition with Henry Lasker.
As an adult, Holdridge moved to New York City to continue his music studies and begin his career as a professional composer. There, he composed chamber works, rock pieces, songs, theater music and background scores for short films, and eventually came to Neil Diamond's notice. Diamond then brought Holdridge with him to Los Angeles to write arrangements for his forthcoming albums. After several gold and platinum hits, the two collaborated on the Grammy Award winning film score for Jonathan Livingston Seagull.
Regurgitator are an Australian band from Brisbane that consists of Quan Yeomans (lead vocals, guitar), Ben Ely (bass, vocals), and Peter Kostic (drums). The band formed in 1993, its original line-up consisting of Yeomans, Ely and drummer Martin Lee.
Regurgitator's debut studio album, Tu-Plang earned the band a significant following, before the release of their second album, Unit in 1997 that propelled the band into mainstream success, winning the ARIA Award for Best Album of 1998 and going three times platinum. Regurgitator have released eight studio albums and five EPs to date.
Martin Lee, the band's original drummer left Regurgitator in 1999 and formed the The Boat Show with Matthew Strong of Custard when Custard disbanded. Lee was replaced by Peter Kostic, who also played/plays with Front End Loader and The Hard-Ons, and Kostic has continued in this role ever since.
Other casual members have included Seja Vogel, from Sekiden; Shane Rudken (Ponyloaf); Dave Atkins (Pangaea, Resin Dogs) among others.
Martin Lee was an American lawyer and politician from New York.
Life
He was the son of Rev. Andrew Lee D.D. (1745–1832) and Eunice (Hall) Lee (d. 1800). He married Anna Wendell, daughter of State Senator Gerrit Wendell, and they had eleven children.
Lee was born in Hong Kong. He is the younger son of Lee Shau Kee, the founder and chairman of Henderson Land Development. He married Cathy Chui, a former TVB actress, in Australia in 2006; they have two daughters and two sons.

A little about William Lee Martin:
With his signature cowboy hat, boots and Texas drawl, it would be easy to lump the blue-eyed, 6-foot-2-inch Martin into the category of “another guy doing country act.” But don’t be fooled by outward appearances, as his on-stage persona is no act – his middle-America storytelling is as genuine as it gets.
Drawing from real-life experiences, Martin’s vibrant routine reflects life as a husband, father, and friend. And that authenticity is connecting with mainstream America, crossing culture lines and social status boundaries.
But no matter the topic, Martin’s gentlemanly wit, and charm prove he’s no dummy, redneck, or hillbilly. His humor is sharp, original and occasionally laced with sarcasm and innuendo, but without the overt adult language prevalent with so many in today’s comedy landscape.

Hong Kong’s pro-democracy veteran Martin Lee believes ‘democracy will arrive in China’

For almost 40 years, Martin Lee has been promoting democracy in Hong Kong. He helped draft Hong Kong’s Basic Law: the city’s mini-constitution that ensured the former British colony would enjoy a high degree of autonomy for 50 years after it was handed back to China. He’s also the founding chairman of the United Democrats of Hong Kong, predecessor of the largest pro-democracy party now in the city’s legislative council. In a recent interview with the Post, Martin said he believed “the whole world will have democracy” and that “democracy will arrive in China” even if it is the last country to adopt it.

The United States’ Interests in Hong Kong: A Discussion with Martin Lee
Harsh verdicts were recently handed down against leaders of the 2014 Hong Kong "umbrella movement." For some, these verdicts, and other encroachments on Hong Kong’s promised autonomy, call into question the wisdom of granting Hong Kong distinct trading status under the US Hong Kong Policy Act. Should the US government play a more active role in advocating for autonomy, the rule of law, and human rights in Hong Kong? Should it treat Hong Kong as it does any Chinese city? Or are other outlooks and options available?
Please join the Kissinger Institute for a discussion between Martin Lee, founding chairman of Hong Kong’s flagship pro-democracy party, and Ambassador J. Stapleton Roy.

ABOUT THE MOTION: This House Believes China Is The New Imperial Power in Hong Kong
The situation in Hong Kong has become ever more serious over the past year. The Michaelmas before last, the Union hosted Martin Lee, Evan Fowler, Benny Tai and Nathan Law - the latter two of those are no longer able to visit the UK. Yet there are no simple answers for Hong Kong. How can it cohabit with and inside of a country which has strikingly different values and aims? Is Hong Kong suffering unjustly or is it as free and prosperous as any city can be in the 21st Century, a Century that will surely belong to China?

ABOUT THE SPEAKER (Opening for the Proposition)
Martin Lee SC JP is a Hong Kong politician and barrister. He is the founding chairman of the United Democrats of Hong Kong and its successor, the Democratic Party, Hong Kong's major pro-democracy party. Nicknamed the "Father of Democracy", he is recognised as one of the most prominent advocates for democracy and human rights in Hong Kong and China.
ABOUT THE CAMBRIDGE UNION: From its small beginnings as a debating society, the Cambridge Union is the oldest debating society in the world and the largest student society in Cambridge. The Union remains a unique forum for the free exchange of ideas and the art of public debate.

Can you smell that McDonell it don't smell so well Or the one in the cage tipped over and fell And if we lived to see Sunday be able to tell Of the terror below and the place we call Hell 'Cause it's a shaft that will feed us and the shaft that will kill Our brothers and fathers who die by her will The fishing is slow and there's work to be done So I'll put on my hat and I'll go underground Now I fear for my children, I fear for my wife And if I don't make it back now I've had a good life For there's a cave in behind us only one way to go Down deep in the shaft so far below 'Cause it's the shaft that will feed us and the shaft that will kill Our brothers and fathers who die by her will The fishing is slow and there's work to be done So I'll put on my hat and I'll go underground What do you say to a family of one Who don't come back up with the rest Is it better to let them just mourn by themselves Or tell 'em he was one of the best There's a flash above head, is it fire or light McDonell lies seethin' the draggers in sight And a few hours later we'll be smellin' sweet air With all of our children the stores we'll share Of the shaft that will feed us and the shaft that will kill Our brothers and fathers who die by her will The fishing is slow and there's work to be done So I'll put on my hat and I'll go underground
