The 26 National Council members are chosen by regional councils, which are directly elected for a term of six-years. Each of the 13 regional councils chooses two of its members to serve on the National Council. The last regional council elections were held on 26 and 27 November 2010.
Political party distribution in the current National Council is as follows:
The council meets in the Namibian capital of Windhoek in the so-called Tintenpalast. The current chairperson is Asser Kuveri Kapere. Seven women occupy seats in the National Council.
The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with more than 2.4 million youth members and nearly one million adult volunteers. Since its founding in 1910 as part of the international Scout Movement, more than 110million Americans have been at some point members of the BSA.
The BSA's goal is to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities, educational programs, and, at older age levels, career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations. For younger members, the Scout method is part of the program to inculcate typical Scouting values such as trustworthiness, good citizenship, and outdoors skills, through a variety of activities such as camping, aquatics, and hiking. The BSA has several locations in Florida, Minnesota, New Mexico, and West Virginia in the United States and Manitoba and Ontario in Canada that allow Scouts to participate in the various aforementioned outdoor activities which are collectively called high-adventure bases.

Scouts BSA | Boy Scouts of America
Scouting opens opportunities for all people, young and old. It allows them to explore new activities that they might never experience such as camping or giving back to the community through service. It teaches important lifelong lessons on how to be a better individual and creates a safe place to fail and an even better place to prosper.

2017 Boy Scouts of America National Jamboree Teaser Video
The first Boy Scouts of America national jamboree was scheduled to be held in Washington, D.C., in 1935 to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Scouting in America. Unfortunately, the jamboree was canceled because of a polio outbreak in Washington. When the first jamboree was finally held in 1937, Dan Beard lit the opening campfire using flint and steel. Scouts from all 48 states at the time brought the wood that was used in the campfire. There were some 27,232 Scouts camped on the National Mall under the Washington Monument. Since that time, 17 national jamborees have been held, the last in 2013.
The 2017 National Scout Jamboree will be held from July 19 to July 28, 2017. Visit https://www.bsa-gnyc.org/nationaljamboree for more information to attend the camping event of the year.
