Bourne End's original location is somewhat different from today's established village centre, a half a mile downstream on the River Thames. The name refers to the end of the river (bourne being an Old English term for 'river'), and it would be the mouth of the River Wye that this is derived from. The then hamlet appears on Morden's 1722 map of Buckinghamshire as "Born end". It was noted in the nineteenth century however, that the name had been corrupted to "Bone End", apparently through local mispronunciation, and thence on official maps and documents; in 1858, the vicar of Wooburn successfully reversed this, and the corrected name remains in use today.
Buckinghamshire is a home county and towns such as High Wycombe, Amersham and the Chalfonts in the east and southeast of the country are parts of the London commuter belt, forming some of the most densely-populated parts of the county. Development in this region is restricted by the Metropolitan Green Belt. Other large settlements include the county town of Aylesbury, Marlow in the south near the Thames and Princes Risborough in the west near Oxford. Some areas without direct rail links to London, such as around the old county town of Buckingham and near Olney in the northeast, are much less populous. The largest town is Milton Keynes in the northeast, which with the surrounding area is administered as a unitary authority separately to the rest of Buckinghamshire. The remainder of the county is administered by Buckinghamshire County Council as a non-metropolitan county. In national elections, Buckinghamshire is considered a reliable supporter of the Conservative party.
This article contains a list of the known knights of the shire who represented Buckinghamshire in the Parliament of England and similar bodies of lesser status between 1290 and 1660. It also includes details of Parliaments from 1265 to which elected knights of the shires were summoned.
Preliminary notes
The parliamentary electoral constituency, representing the historic county of Buckinghamshire, was created in (1265): see Montfort's Parliament for further details and History of Buckinghamshire for maps of the historic county. This county constituency was represented by two knights of the shire until 1832 and three 1832-1885.
Although at some periods several Parliaments were held in a year, at others there were considerable gaps between Parliaments. Knights of the shire were also summoned to meetings which have not been classified as Parliaments by modern expert opinion. The names of the members in some Parliaments are not known.
What are the 10 prettiest towns in the county of Buckinghamshire? To determine this, I visited them all. Here's what I found out.
As a disclaimer, this list is neither a social commentary, nor a guide on which are the nicest towns to live, but purely a judgement on the aesthetics of each respective town centre.

12 Most Haunted Places in Buckinghamshire
Would you want to know the 12 most haunted place in Buckinghamshire?
Britain has been named the most haunted country in the world. Even if that can be contested, there’s no gainsaying the fact that it has a lot of haunted places with tales of ghosts and spirits. However, some cities and towns have less of such places. We’ve produced a two-part video about the most haunted places in the UK. We have two other videos that focus on each city replete with such stories. Today, we want to focus on the 12 most haunted places in Buckinghamshire. We understand these places in Buckinghamshire aren’t among the most popular in the UK. Thus, as we discuss each of them, we’ll describe their location before explaining their features as haunted towns or villages.

We understand these places in Buckinghamshire aren’t among the most popular in the UK. Thus, as we discuss each of them, we’ll describe their location before explaining their features as haunted towns or villages.
1. Chenies Manor House, Chenies
Chenies Manor House is in the parish of Chenies in Buckinghamshire. It’s a Tudor Grade I listed building which was once known as Chenies Palace, though it was neither a royal seat nor the seat of a bishop. Since the 12th century, the manor house was held by the Cheney family and has successively passed by marriage to other families. The House which has 22 chimneys was visited by both King Henry VIII along with some of his wives and Queen Elizabeth I. It’s thought to be haunted by the ghost of one of the hundreds of soldiers killed in the area during the English Civil War. Visitors have been reporting catching a glimpse of the spirit nursing his wounds tragically or hearing him limping up and down the home's staircase.
2. Finnamore Wood, Marlow
We want to talk about a location in Marlow. In this town which is also a civil parish in Buckinghamshire, located on the River Thames, 6 kilometres south-southwest of High Wycombe, 8 kilometres west-northwest of Maidenhead, and 53 kilometres west of central London, there’s a haunted place called Finnamore Wood. It’s in one of the most rural areas of the town on the site of the former Evacuation Camp. It used to be known as Finnamore Wood Holiday & Evacuation Camp and housed evacuees from Beal Modern Girls' School and others displaced during the Second World War. In 1948, the wood housed members of the American Canoe team training at the Marlow Rowing Club for their Olympic Rowers.
3. Fulmer
Fulmer is a village and civil parish near the town of Gerrards Cross. It has along its northern border a narrow buffer from the town while it is heavily wooded, adjoining neighbouring villages of Wexham and Iver Heath. The most haunted place here is Fulmer Place, a Grade II listed mansion which was formerly the residence of Lord John Hay.

Using a copy of the 1923 Michelin Guide, I'll be travelling the country to see what remains and what's changed since it's publication. The guide offers suggestions on thing to see and where to stay all with the goal of getting you out there and exploring in your motor vehicle.

The Buckinghamshire, West London’s finest Golf Estate & Country House, is a contemporary members’ club for discerning golfers, their families and guests, just 15 miles from Notting Hill and 10 miles from London Heathrow Airport.
One of the UK’s largest and most important clubhouse renovations is on course to be completed this spring when the historic country house at the heart of The Buckinghamshire reopens as the centrepiece of a ‘reimagined’ members’ club for West London.
