Since the 1960s, Carter has become best known for his bawdy songs such as "Let Me Roll Your Lemon", "Banana in Your Fruit Basket", "Pin in Your Cushion", "Your Biscuits Are Big Enough for Me", "Please Warm My Wiener" and "My Pencil Won't Write No More". However, his output was not restricted to risquémusic. In 1928, he recorded the original version of "Corrine, Corrina", which later became a hit for Big Joe Turner and has become a standard in various musical genres.
Carter and his brothers (including pianist Harry Chatmon, who also made recordings), first learned music from their father, ex-slave fiddler Henderson Chatmon, at their home on a plantation between Bolton and Edwards, Mississippi. Their mother, Eliza, also sang and played guitar.
Baby don't put no more baking powder in your bread you see
'Cause your biscuits is plenty tall enough for me
Baby I don't want no more sugar in your jellyroll you see
'Cause your jellyroll is plenty sweet enough for me
Some men like lunch meat
And some they likes cold tongue
Some men don't care for biscuits
They likes a dog gone big fat bun
But baby don't put no more baking powder in your bread you see
'Cause your two biscuits plenty big enough for me
I don't want no more baking powders in your bread you see
'Cause your biscuits plenty tall enough for me
Baby don't put no more sugar in your jellyroll you see
'Cause your jellyroll is plenty sweet enough for me
Some men you know they're straight
Some crooked as a barrel of snakes
Some men don't like bun and biscuits

1st RECORDING OF: Corrine Corrina - Charlie McCoy & Bo Chatman (1928)
We hear blues musicians Bo Chatman (aka “Bo Carter,” born Armenter Chatmon) and Charles “Papa Charlie” McCoy performing this now-familiar country-blues tune. Chatman was probably most responsible for the writing, though publishers J. Mayo Williams and Mitchell Parish both claimed partial composer credit when the song was published after this recording was made. More recent ‘Corrina’ treatments included successful releases by Joe Turner in 1956 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReKSGlNfskw and Ray Peterson in 1960 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mPE8HtMJRb0
The original 78rpm single was issued on Brunswick 7080 - Corrine Corrina by Charlie McCoy and Bo Chatman, recorded December 1928
