Blackpool Football Club is an English football club founded in 1887 and based in the Lancashireseaside town of Blackpool. For the 2015–16 English season, the team will be competing in League One, the third tier of professional football in England, after being relegated from the Championship the previous season. When they reached the Premier League, at the end of the 2009–10 campaign, Blackpool became the first club in English football to have won promotion from every division of the Football League via the play-off system.
Blackpool's home ground has been Bloomfield Road since 1901. Their main nickname is the Seasiders, but they are also called the 'Pool and the Tangerines, the latter in reference to the colour of their home kit, which is often referred to as orange. The club's motto is Progress, as featured on the club crest. Blackpool have a local rivalry with Preston North End, and matches between the two clubs are known as the West Lancashire derby. They have not met in the League since February 2010.
Blackpool F.C. are a South African football franchise based in Gauteng. The club is owned by businessman Takalani Rabali, who previously worked for Limpopo United F.C.. Rabali purchased a franchise license for the Gauteng stream of the Vodacom League and the club was created in 2010. Rabali felt it would be easier to promoted from the Gauteng stream of the Vodacom League than the stronger Limpopo stream.
The club's owner has promised to relocate the team to Nzhelele, Limpopo should they win promotion to the National First Division.
They finished second in the Gauteng division of the 2010-11 season, finishing six points behind Highlands Park F.C..
Joe Lane, ever-present throughout the season, was the club's top scorer for the second consecutive season, with 28 goals to his name. Harold Keenan, though still a member of the squad, didn't make any appearances for the club.
Season synopsis
The season started slowly for the Seasiders, with five defeats in their opening six league games — a 3–1 victory (thanks to a Joe Lane hat-trick) at Hull City on 5 September being the anomaly. The run did not get any better; indeed in ten league games, Blackpool lost eight times. Their form picked up from November onwards, however, but inconsistency was rife.
The players redeemed themselves somewhat with eight victories in their final ten games, which resulted in their top-ten finish.
For the third consecutive season, Blackpool's FA Cup campaign ended at the first-round stage.
Blackpooli/ˈblækpuːl/ is a seaside resort in Lancashire, England, on England's northwest coast. The town is on the Irish Sea, between the Ribble and Wyre estuaries, 17.5 miles (28.2km) northwest of Preston, 27 miles (43km) north of Liverpool, 30 miles (48km) northwest of Bolton and 40 miles (64km) northwest of Manchester. It had an estimated population of 142,065 at the 2011 Census.
Throughout the Middle Ages and Early Modern period, Blackpool was a coastal hamlet in Lancashire's Hundred of Amounderness, and remained such until the mid-18th century when it became fashionable in England to travel to the coast in the summer to bathe in sea water to improve well-being. In 1781, visitors attracted to Blackpool's 7-mile (11km) sandy beach were able to use a new private road, built by Thomas Clifton and Sir Henry Hoghton. Stagecoaches began running to Blackpool from Manchester in the same year, and from Halifax in 1782. In the early 19th century, Henry Banks and his son-in-law John Cocker erected new buildings in Blackpool such that its population grew from less than 500 in 1801 to over 2,500 in 1851. St John's Church in Blackpool was consecrated in 1821.
General Election 1939/40:
Another General Election was required to take place before the end of 1940. The political parties had been making preparations for an election to take place from 1939 and by the end of this year, the following candidates had been selected; *Conservative: Roland Robinson
Blackpool is a British television musicalcomedy drama serial, produced in-house by the BBC. It was screened on BBC One as six one-hour episodes on Thursday nights at 9pm from 11 November to 16 December 2004. When retransmitted by BBC America in 2005, it was renamed Viva Blackpool, and went on to win a Peabody Award for BBC Worldwide, the commercial overseas distribution subsidiary of the BBC. A sequel in the form of a TV movie was produced by the BBC, also called Viva Blackpool in the UK (2006).
Plot
The plot concerns the murder of a young man in a Blackpool arcade, and how it affects the people involved in the arcade and the investigation:
Ripley Holden (David Morrissey), the ambitious, arrogant arcade owner who believes strongly in luck, and who is planning to turn his arcade into a Las Vegas-style casino hotel and thus revive Blackpool's fortunes;
DI Peter Carlisle (David Tennant), the investigating officer of the murder: a charming and good-natured, although extremely manipulative, police officer, who dislikes Holden almost on sight;
