WIKIPEDIA:
Black Christmas (former alternative titles include Silent Night, Evil Night and Stranger in the House) is a 1974 Canadian psychological slasher film directed by Bob Clark and written by A. Roy Moore. It stars Olivia Hussey, Keir Dullea, Margot Kidder, Andrea Martin, Marian Waldman and John Saxon. The story follows a group of sorority sisters who are receiving threatening phone calls, while being stalked and murdered during the holiday season by a deranged murderer hiding in the attic of their sorority house.
Inspired by a series of murders that took place in the Westmount section of Montreal, Quebec, and the urban legend "The Babysitter and the Man Upstairs," writer Moore composed the script, which was originally titled Stop Me. Upon director Clark's involvement, numerous alterations were made, primarily the shifting to a university setting with young adult characters.
The film was shot on an estimated budget of $620,000 in Toronto in the winter of 1973–4. Black Christmas was purchased by Warner Bros., who distributed the film in North America, releasing it in Canada on October 11, 1974; in the United States, Warner Bros. timed the release with the Christmas holiday, releasing it on December 20, 1974. It screened at theaters in the United States through late 1975, and would internationally gross over USD$4 million at the box office.
Years after its release, Black Christmas has received praise from critics and is noted by film historians for being one of the earliest films of its type to conclude without revealing the identity of its villain. It has also earned a following as a cult film.[2] The film is generally considered to be one of the earliest slasher films,[3] as well as serving as an influence for Halloween (1978). Two years after its original release, a novelization written by Lee Hays was published in 1976, and a remake of the same name, produced by Clark, was released in December 2006.

Battle of Hong Kong - A Savage Christmas 1941
In the autumn of 1941, nearly 2,000 mostly inexperienced Canadian soldiers were sent to Hong Kong at the request of the British government which mistakenly thought that a symbolic show of strength would deter a Japanese attack on the colony. When the British colony of Hong Kong officially surrendered to Japan on Christmas Day of 1941, the surviving defenders became prisoners of war.

Fall of Hong Kong (1941)
Initially Winston Churchill regarded the territory as a outpost and would not reinforce it against impending attack and reduced the British garrison there to fight the ongoing war in Europe.

Choi was 18 when he fought in the conflict, having joined the British Army just three months before the Japanese attack on his hometown began on December 8, 1941. Peter Choi, one of the last surviving veterans of the World War II Battle of Hong Kong, died on August 6, 2020. Choi was 18 when he fought in the conflict, having joined the British Army just three months before the Japanese attack on his hometown began on December 8, 1941. The Commonwealth forces fought hard in the Battle of Hong Kong, but within 18 days, Imperial Japanese forces took control of the British crown colony. The occupation of Hong Kong ended 75 years ago, when Japan surrendered on August 15, 1945. After the war, Choi’s wartime experiences would play a crucial role throughout his life. In 1980, he helped establish the World War II Veterans Association in Hong Kong. In their clubhouse in Causeway Bay he enjoyed many of his last days playing Chinese chess. Choi passed away peacefully with family at his side, at Tung Wah Hospital. He was 98.

The Battle of Hong Kong 1941 was a significant battle during the Pacific War that saw Chinese, British, Indians and Canadian fighting off a Japanese invasion of Hong Kong.
▶️In this documentary we will explain the Battle of Hong Kong 1941 which was performed the same morning as the attack on Pearl Harbor. The Empire of Japan invaded the British Crown Colony of Hong Kong which was defended by Chinese, British, Indian and Canadian forces.
▶️The Battle of Hong Kong lasted from December 8th-25th ending with “black Christmas” when Hong Kong was surrendered to the Empire of Japan. This full documentary will cover the history of Hong Kong, why the battle of Hong Kong occurred, why it was an important target for the Japanese empire, a complete rundown of the entire battle day by day (animated battle map, battle footage), how racism played an interesting role in the battle for both sides, the brutal military structure of imperial Japan, what the occupational years were like, what resistance was like during 1941-1945, an explanation on the atrocities performed by the Japanese forces and the lasting effect the battle held over the Pacific War and World History.
▶️The guest speaker Eric is a fellow History Major that studied with Craig from The Pacific War Channel. Please check out our previous discussion on Amazing and lesser known facts about the battle of Midway.
