St Andrews (Latin:S. Andrea(s);Scots:Saunt Aundraes;Scottish Gaelic:Cill Rìmhinn) is a former royal burgh on the east coast of Fife in Scotland, 10 miles (16km) southeast of Dundee and 30 miles (50km) northeast of Edinburgh. The town is home to the University of St Andrews, the third oldest university in the English-speaking world and the oldest in Scotland. The University is an integral part of the burgh, and during term time students make up approximately one third of the town's population. St Andrews has a population of 16,680, making it the fifth largest settlement in Fife.
The town is named after Saint Andrew the Apostle. There has been an important church in St Andrews since at least the 8th century, and a bishopric since at least the 11th century. The settlement grew to the west of St Andrews cathedral with the southern side of the Scores to the north and the Kinness burn to the south. The burgh soon became the ecclesiastical capital of Scotland, a position which was held until the Scottish Reformation. The famous cathedral, the largest in Scotland, now lies in ruins.
The song "St. Andrews" features guest vocals from Alexisonfire's Wade McNeil. The songs "Until We Burn in the Sun (The Kids Just Want a Love Song)" and "Nico on the Night Train" are featured on a sampler from Dine Alone Records.
The album debuted at #2 on the Canadian Albums Chart, selling over 8,000 copies in its first week. The album was certified Gold by the CRIA in 2008 for sales of over 50,000 copies in Canada.

Constructed and opened in 1906 to replace the Muntz Street ground, which had become too small to meet the club's needs, the original St Andrew's could hold an estimated 75,000 spectators, housed in one grandstand and a large uncovered terrace. The attendance record, variously recorded as 66,844 or 67,341, was set at a 1939 FA Cup tie against Everton. During the Second World War, St Andrew's suffered bomb damage and the grandstand, housing a temporary fire station, burned down in an accidental fire. In the 1950s, the club replaced the stand and installed floodlights, and later erected a second small stand and roofed over the open terraces, but there were few further changes.
The ground became dilapidated: a boy was killed when a wall collapsed during rioting in the 1980s. When new owners took the club out of administration in 1993, they began a six-year redevelopment programme during which the ground was converted to an all-seater stadium to comply with the Taylor Report into safety at sports grounds, and all areas apart from the Main Stand were completely rebuilt. The seating capacity of the modern stadium is just over 30,000. It has function rooms suitable for business or social events and a club store selling Birmingham City merchandise. A 2004 proposal that the club should sell the ground and move into a multi-purpose City of Birmingham Stadium remains speculative. In 2013, the ground was listed as an Asset of Community Value under the Localism Act 2011.
The name St Andrews is not the town or church's original name. Originally it was Cellrígmonaid ("church of the king's mounth" hence Cill Rìmhinn) located at Cennrígmonaid ("head of the king's mounth"); hence the town became Kilrymont (i.e. Cellrígmonaid) in the non-Gaelic orthography of the High Middle Ages). Today St Andrews has replaced both Kilrymont (and variants) as well as the older English term Anderston as the name of the town and bishopric.
The bishopric itself appears to originate in the period 700–900. By the 11th century, it is clear that it is the most important bishopric in Scotland.
List of known abbots
There had been a monastery there since the 8th century. It was probably taken over by Céli Dé monks in the 9th or 10th centuries, and these survive into the 14th century. It is the Gaelic abbey, rather than the continental priory, that the abbot was in charge of; the importance of the Céli Dé abbey has come down into the modern era in the street names of St. Andrews.
St. Andrews is an historical provincial electoral division in Manitoba, Canada. It existed on two separate occasions, and was located to the immediate north of Winnipeg, the capital city.
St. Andrews (original constituency)
When Manitoba joined Canadian Confederation in 1870, the St. Andrews region of the province was given two seats: St. Andrews North and St. Andrews South. It was consolidated into a single constituency following redistribution in 1879. In 1899, it was merged with the Kildonan constituency and Kildonan and St. Andrews.
The St. Andrews electoral division was initially dominated by anglophone "old settlers", who had resided in the Red River territory before it was incorporated as a province. Many of the old settlers were known as "mixed-bloods", referring to persons of British and aboriginal descent (the term was not considered offensive at the time). John Norquay, a "mixed-blood" leader who served as Premier of Manitoba from 1878 to 1887, represented St. Andrews in the provincial legislature for many years. Alfred Boyd, who is sometimes lists as Manitoba's first premier, also represented a St. Andrews constituency from 1870 to 1874.

The video message from Archbishop Leo Cushley of Saint Andrews & Edinburgh is addressed to Father Linden and Michelle Sontag, Principal & Director of School Opening of Saint Andrew Catholic School. In his address, Archbishop Cushley says he is “delighted to hear” of the new school in Saline noting that a “very important element of passing along our Christian faith is to have our Catholic schools”.
Saint Andrew Catholic School plans to open in the Fall of 2023 with pre-kindergarten to sixth grade classrooms. The school is then planning to add preschool, seventh and eighth grade classrooms over the next few years. At present, 23 students are already enrolled. Mrs Sontag says her hope is to enroll between 60 and 80 students by the start of the school year.
“Thank you Archbishop Cushley,” said Father Linden, “Wherever Saint Andrew is venerated across the world today, whether in Scotland or Saline, our apostolic refrain remains the same: ‘We have found the Messiah!’”
It was in the 4th century that a Greek monk named St Regulus was told in a dream to take the bones of St Andrew to the “ends of the earth”. This journey ultimately saw his boat washed ashore upon Scotland’s eastern coast at Kilrymont, later renamed St Andrews. St Andrews grew to become one of Europe’s most important pilgrim destinations as well as Scotland’s ecclesiastical capital. Saint Andrew was adopted as the patron of Scotland in the 8th century.
The Archdiocese of Saint Andrews & Edinburgh traces its roots back to the 10th century. It was raised to the rank of an archdiocese in 1472 by Pope Sixtus IV. The archdiocese was suppressed in 1560 amid the Scottish Reformation but was re-established in 1878 by Pope Leo XIII. Archbishop Leo Cushley is the 56th bishop of St Andrews.
