Making Bio Fuels | Biology for All | FuseSchool
Can you name some fuels that can be burned to generate energy?
Coal, oil, and gas are probably the first that comes to mind.
In this video, we’re going to look at another special type: biofuels.
The fossil fuels coal, oil, and gas can all be burned to release energy but they are some serious disadvantages to doing this.
We have fossil fuels to thank for providing us with energy, that has been used for many huge advances in society. However, they also have some serious disadvantages.
Burning fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide, which is a major contributor to global warming. Sulphur dioxide gas is also released which makes acid rain, damaging the habitats of organisms. And oxides of nitrogen are produced which can cause lots of breathing problems, especially for people who suffer with ...

What are Biofuels and Where are They Going?
What are Biofuels and Where are They Going?
With increasing CO2 emissions around the globe, toughening environmental regulations, and reductions in costs, biofuels now, for the first time ever, are starting to look like a viable option to compete with traditional fuels.
If you've ever wondered anything about biofuels from 'What are they?' to 'How are they made?' to 'Where are they going?' we'll cover all of that and more in this video!
A quick overview of the video (and to get some keywords in the description to optimize my SEO): A biofuel is simply any fuel derived from biomass, or something that was alive, usually farming crops. Both biofuel and normal fuel produce emissions, mainly CO2, but also other greenhouse gases like hydrocarbons and NOx.
Probably the biggest and most obvious...

Biofuel instead of coal and oil - How promising are these renewable resources? | DW Documentary
Can our petroleum-based market economy make the switch to renewable resources? According to scientists, politicians and industrial leaders, a "biobased economy" is a sustainable alternative. What lies behind this optimism?
The biobased economy promises to help solve some of the world’s biggest problems, including climate change, species extinction, pesticide residues and depleted soil. It foresees plants, fungi and insects replacing environmentally unfriendly coal and petroleum as raw materials, and microorganisms being used to produce chemicals.
But even these renewable resources require a production process, and that harbors new potential dangers. These include land appropriation, the destruction of already dwindling natural ecosystems, and the exploitation of nature for profit to an e...

What Is Biofuel? | Biomass and biofuels for kids
Have you ever wondered "What is Biofuel?" or "What is Biomass?" The need for energy is ever growing and biofuels and biomass are different materials that can be used for energy. Biomass and Biofuel are considered renewable energy because it mostly comes from plants that can be replanted and replaced when used for energy. In this video we will discuss all kinds of energy and the advantages and disadvantages to biomass or biofuel vs fossil fuels.
We also invite you to download our free biofuel and biomass lesson plan here: https://learnbright.org/lessons/science/biomass-and-biofuel/ in this lesson and video students learn about specific examples of both biomass and biofuel and learn the advantages and disadvantages of using them through engaging content, worksheets, activities and more...

biofuels are a useful alternative to fossil fuels. They’re not a perfect alternative, but they certainly have some advantages.

Probably the biggest and most obvious hurdle for the biofuel market is costs. Diesel fuel has been around for a little over 100 years, and in that time the production pipeline has been highly optimized and scaled for profitability, but the low volumes biofuel are produced in make it hard for them to compete on an even playing field. And wat’s worse than low margins, is the crazy high startup costs to build one of these factories.
We’re in a weird place with biofuel, similar to where renewable energy was a decade ago. Because production is so low compared to traditional diesel, biofuel production won’t be profitable for a while without government intervention and tax credits, especially because the upfront cost for opening these fuel plants can be 10’s or even hundreds of millions of dollars. But the hope is that, just like with renewable energies, that when the government subsidizes the initial growth, eventually they can reach profitability as they scale.

These include land appropriation, the destruction of already dwindling natural ecosystems, and the exploitation of nature for profit to an ever-greater extent. This documentary examines the economic cycle as a whole, from the production of biomass to processing and finished products.

A look at the possibly using biofuels as a fossil fuel alternative to aid our energy transition and decarbonize. Craig Degenfelder has 25 years of combined experience in the construction and utility industries, including over 10 years with Consumers Energy, where he is currently the executive director of gas strategy. In this role, he leads the Company’s long-term investment strategy for the entire natural gas system to best serve its 1.8 million gas customers.
Prior to this role, Craig was an executive director of enterprise project management. Craig holds an associate’s in business administration, a bachelor’s in construction management, a Project Management Professional certification, and an MBA.
Neal Dreisig is a Manager of Gas Asset Strategy for Consumers Energy. In this role, Neal leads the development of decarbonizing our gas system including renewable natural gas, hydrogen, carbon capture and other new technology end uses. Prior to this role, Neal spent 12 years as an engineer working on air quality control retrofits and other industrial projects.
Neal holds a master’s degree in Management, a bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, and also a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
