"Things" is a song which was written and recorded by Bobby Darin in 1962. It reached #3 in the US, #2 in the UK, and #3 in the first ever official Irish Singles Chart, published by RTÉ in October 1962. However, there had been an Irish Top 10 before 1962, published in the Evening Herald from February 1959. As a result, "Things" actually peaked at #2 in the "unofficial" Evening Herald Chart.
In 1962, Darin began to write and sing country music, with hit songs including "Things". It was the final Darin single released on the Atco Records unit of Atlantic Records before he began recording for Capitol Records. While vault material would continue to be issued on Atco, Darin would later return to Atlantic Records. The song was sung by Dean Martin and Nancy Sinatra in the 1967 TV special Movin' with Nancy, starring Nancy Sinatra, which was released to home video in 2000.
A husband with a fanatical desire but inability to father children is driven to force his wife to undergo a dangerous experiment. This results in hatching a non-human life form in his wife's womb, and the birth of a multitude of "things."
With a budget between $35,000 and $40,000, the film was shot on both super 8 and 16mm film.
Andrew Jordan figured the movie would not get any publicity if the true budget were announced, so he convinced Barry J. Gillis to go along with the lie that the movie was shot for $350,000. It wasn't until recent years that Gillis and Jordan began revealing the true budget.
Split Enz were a New Zealand rock band, formed in 1972 and featuring Phil Judd and Tim Finn and later Neil Finn. One of the most successful New Zealand musical acts of the late 1970s and early 1980s, the band would go on to achieve chart success in New Zealand, Australia and Canada – most notably with their 1980 single "I Got You" – and built a cult following elsewhere. Their musical style was eclectic, incorporating influences from art rock, vaudeville, swing, punk, rock, new wave, and pop. Split Enz established a reputation for a distinctive visual style, thanks partly to their colourful, offbeat costumes and hairstyles.
The group's career falls into two phases. They began as an acoustic folk band in the early 1970s and by the time they recorded their first album they had changed to electric instruments and took on a progressive rock sound. From 1977 onwards, with the departure of songwriter/guitarist Phil Judd and the arrival of Neil Finn, Split Enz' sound began to move from progressive rock towards new wave and pop. The early 1980s proved the group's most commercially successful period, with a string of popular albums. The videos for some of the songs from this period were among the first played on MTV. Since the band's break-up in 1984, the group has reunited several times, and its members have gone on to create varied musical groups with one another, including Neil Finn's band Crowded House, Schnell Fenster, Citizen Band and the Finn Brothers.
A saint is a person who is recognized as having an exceptional degree of holiness, or likeness to God. While the English term "saint" originated in Christianity, historians of religion now use the appellation "in a more general way to refer to the state of special holiness that many religions attribute to certain people," with the Jewish Tzadik, the Islamic Mu'min, the Hindu rishi or Sikh guru, and the Buddhist arhat or bodhisattva also being referred to as "saints". Depending on the religion, saints are recognized either by official ecclesiastical declaration/denomination or by popular acclamation (see folk saints).
In Christianity, "saint" has a wide variety of meanings, depending on the context and denomination. The original Christian denotation was any believer who is "in Christ" and in whom Christ dwells, whether in Heaven or on earth. In Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic doctrine, all of their faithful deceased in Heaven are considered to be saints, but some are considered worthy of greater honor, emulation, or veneration, with official ecclesiastical recognition given to some saints by canonization or glorification.
"Saint", stylized as (s)AINT, is a song written by Marilyn Manson in 2003 for the album The Golden Age of Grotesque. Marilyn Manson portrays himself in the music video. The video was shot over a period of two days in November 2003 at the Sunset Tower, a hotel in Los Angeles, California. It was directed by Asia Argento, who guest stars in the video along with Eric Szmanda & former band member Gidget Gein whose "In Case of Emergency Break Heart" sculpture is featured in the video. The sculpture is an edition of three, the one in the video being owned by Asia Argento and the other is owned by artist and friend of Gidget Gein, Damian Crowley and the third version is owned by UnPOP art movement co-founder and friend Aaron Partridge.
Along with the release of the album, Lest We Forget, Manson released a single DVD with the uncut, banned from the label, original version of the music video. The only way to receive this though was to order it through Manson's website. It came also with the CD/DVD package. The explicit version of the DVD was released with the (s)AINT video in Australia and Europe. Japan required an edited version of the video due to censorship laws on showing female genitalia in media.
A stone monkey is born from the divine rock as a child of the Heaven and Earth. Di Shi Tian, the Jade Emperor who presides over Heaven, orders thunder deity Lei Gong to inflict Heavenly Punishment on the monkey, but Lei Gong is unable to do so. The monkey studies the 73 transformations from Puti Laozu the Master of the Sun, and is given the name Sun Wukong. Lei Gong attempts to eliminate him again with Heavenly Punishment, but Sun uses his abilities to protect his master and his fellow students.
Sun receives the title of Bumayun (horsekeeper) from Di Shi Tian, and finds the position to be lowly. He fights with some deities, including Tianpeng Yuanshai. He rescues 108 demons from Pangu's temple. Dashan Ru Lai captures Sun and imprisons him in Mount Wu Xing. Di Shi Tian punishes Sanyan Zhanshen and Beidou-Xingjun for their carelessness.
The Allmusic review by Mark Deming gave the album 3½ start stating: "Robert Earl Keen is an archetypal Texas singer/songwriter, someone who can mine both laughter and tragedy from life along the dusty margins of life in the Lone Star State... a comprehensive and well-programmed compilation offering a fully rounded introduction to his music would be more than welcome. However, 2007's Best isn't quite that album... If you're looking for a concise, career-spanning overview of Robert Earl Keen's long career in music, Best isn't as much help as you might wish, but the consistent quality is a sure convincer."
Split Enz's fifth album True Colours was released in 1980, with the single I Got You going to number one in both Australia and New Zealand. The album also topped the charts on both side of the Tasman, with the record being released in a multitude of cover colour combinations. The Kiwi band's line-up during the True Colours era featured Tim Finn, Neil Finn, Eddie Rayner, Nigel Griggs, Malcolm Green and Noel Crombie.
True Colours celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2020.
