Their first official match was held on 30 May 1993 against Swaziland.

There were chaotic scenes at Banyana Banyana's send-off for their second Fifa World Cup as the team boycotted yesterday's warm-up game against Botswana at Tsakane Stadium in Ekhuruleni.
A makeshift South African team devoid of Banyana's World Cup squad played a game delayed by an hour.
South African Football Players Union president Thulaganyo Gaoshubelwe was at the hotel with the players before they went to the Tsakane stadium. Minister of Sport Zizi Kodwa has urged Banyana Banyana to focus on the job at hand less than three weeks before the start of the FIFA Woman's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
