Experimental film, experimental cinema or avant-garde cinema is a mode of filmmaking that rigorously re-evaluates cinematic conventions and explores non-narrative forms and alternatives to traditional narratives or methods of working. Many experimental films, particularly early ones, relate to arts in other disciplines: painting, dance, literature and poetry, or arise from research and development of new technical resources.
While some experimental films have been distributed through mainstream channels or even made within commercial studios, the vast majority have been produced on very low budgets with a minimal crew or a single person and are either self-financed or supported through small grants.
Experimental filmmakers generally begin as amateurs, and some used experimental films as a springboard into commercial film making or transitioned into academic positions. The aim of experimental filmmaking is usually to render the personal vision of an artist, or to promote interest in new technology rather than to entertain or to generate revenue, as is the case with commercial films.

In Psyche, we follow the protagonist on a surreal journey through a world between life and afterlife. Stuck in this in-between place. The boundaries between reality and illusion blur. The protagonist experiences a series of absurd sequences in which he tries to comprehend. However, the more he tries to understand the world, the more confusing his surroundings become.

I remember the times, when things didn't seem to be so hard. When we could stay up late all night, and we would wish upon the stars to make things right. Now things are seen to be a little different in my eyes, I seem to want this a little more, but I'll need you by my side. Caution! Caution! Here's our option! Don't look back. Let's give it all we've got. Lets make our sound. Let's scream it at the top of our lungs. Let's do it right this time around. and Let's make our mark and never fall apart. Never say die unless its meant. I swear these things we wont regret. I know its tough, but try to stick it out for few more days, Can you ever imagine, when we make this happen, what they all will say. Go for the gold, try to not settle for the worst. and It's times like these, that we'll never forget, and that will make us finish first! Caution! Caution! Here's our option! Never look back. Let's give it all we've got. Lets make our sound. Let's scream it at the top of our lungs. Let's do it right this time around. and Let's make our mark and never fall apart. (Never say die!) unless its meant. I swear these things we wont regret. Caution! Caution! Here's our option! Never look back. Let's give it all we've got. Lets make our sound. Let's scream it at the top of our lungs. Let's do it right this time around. and Let's make our mark and never fall apart. (Never say die!) unless its meant.
"It's something the studios are able to afford, but our particular concern is the orphan films, those independent and avant-garde works produced by people who can barely afford to scrape together enough money to make the film in the first place.
Rex Reed’s scalpel was particularly sharp in 2024, slicing through 43 films with the kind of ruthless precision only he can wield ... Reed dissects Disco Boy as an exercise in artistic obscurity masquerading as avant-garde.
TEHRAN-The 1966 Swedish avant-garde psychological drama film “Persona” written, directed, and produced by Ingmar Bergman will be screened at the Iranian Artists Forum (IAF) on Monday ... .
The prolific filmmaker has dabbled in other genres like psychological thrillers and dramas, but he is most notable because of his avant-garde approach to conceptual and experimental horror.
... “Sunrise.” The earlier film showcases Murnau’s already fluid camerawork, particularly his command of shadow play and low angles that made the 6-foot-3 Schreck seem like a force of otherworldly evil.
While he is identified as one of those filmmakers who heralded the New Wave in Hindi cinema where the stories and style of filmmaking differed from the mainstream Hindi films, I wouldn’t go as far as to call him avant garde.
When asked to name a favorite film, I suppose many are tempted to invoke some faux-intellectual, foreign, Frenchy, avant-garde drivel ... “I thought it was the greatest film I had ever made,” wrote Capra in his 1971 autobiography.
Elordi plays a young Fife in the film, based on Russell Banks' 2021 novel, "Foregone." ... While his films aren't necessarily avant-garde or experimental, Schrader makes the kinds of movies talked about more among film buffs than mass audiences.

... and strut about, you should know that Robin also plays film clips of go-go dancing, weird cartoons and advertisements from a projector. It's not so much avant-garde; it's just a big hit with the crowd.
