Simon & Schuster CEO Reveals His WORST Reading Experience Ever
Many years ago, Simon & Schuster CEO made the decision to read THE GIVING TREE to his child and the result was a reading experience he will never forget (or forgive!) Jon dives into the devastating story, it's lasting impression, and even what Shel Silverstein had to say about the book himself. If you're a parent looking to expose your child to a timeless children's literary classic, Jon recommends something less "traumatic," like Harold & the Purple Crayon, instead.

Announcing the Simon & Schuster 100
A century ago, Richard Simon and Max Schuster founded a small publishing company. Their first titles were crossword puzzle books, but they quickly moved to a broad range of popular titles, always dedicated to introducing their authors’ books to the most readers.
As we approached our centennial, a group of Simon & Schuster staffers took on the daunting challenge of selecting The Simon & Schuster 100: titles published throughout our history that are believed to best represent the breadth and depth of our publishing program across genres, imprints, and borders.

A selection of his works that help grab people's attention (excluding his various grand strategy books):
Coup d'État: A Practical Handbook (London, Allen Lane, 1968; Revised Edition: Cambridge, MA, 1979; London, 1979; Sydney, 1979)
The Pentagon and the Art of War: The Question of Military Reform (New York, Simon & Schuster, 1985)
On the Meaning of Victory: Essays on Strategy (New York, Simon & Schuster, 1986)
Strategy: The Logic of War and Peace (Cambridge, Massachusetts, 1987)
Strategy: The Logic of War and Peace, Revised and Enlarged Edition (Cambridge, Massachusetts, 2002)
His break with Neoliberalism/neoConservatism:
The Endangered American Dream: How To Stop the United States from Being a Third World Country and How To Win the Geo-Economic Struggle for Industrial Supremacy (New York, Simon & Schuster, 1993)
"Why Fascism is the Wave of the Future." London Review of Books 16, no. 7 (1994): 3-6.
Turbo-Capitalism: Winners and Losers in the Global Economy (London, Weidenfeld & Nicolson, 1998)
Corlitz's question about Ernst Kantorowicz and his King's Two Bodies.
Here are some other important scholars of Medieval political thought that one would need to suplement Kantorowicz with:
Walter Ullmann--whose work on Papal power echo what Schmitt raises in Dictatorship.
Henry James Sumner Maine-who is the Victorian Master who shaped the English understanding of Law and the way societies and states come to be developed.
& Especially--Frederic William Maitland--the man who outdid Maine showing the legal foundations of English law and the English Constitution, and with it the Crown and the State.
Also check out:
Harold J. Berman, Law and Revolution: The Formation of the Western Legal Tradition. Harvard University Press, 1983
Harold J. Berman Law and revolution, II: the impact of the protestant reformations on the western legal tradition. Harvard University Press, 2003.
Both of which mostly agrees with the argument about the development of state power in Carl Schmitt's Dictatorship.
