Marquis de Sade
Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de Sade (2 June 1740 – 2 December 1814) (French: [maʁki də sad]), was a French aristocrat, revolutionary politician, philosopher, and writer, famous for his libertine sexuality. His works include novels, short stories, plays, dialogues, and political tracts; in his lifetime some were published under his own name, while others appeared anonymously and Sade denied being their author. De Sade is best known for his erotic works, which combined philosophical discourse with pornography, depicting sexual fantasies with an emphasis on violence, criminality, and blasphemy against the Catholic Church. He was a proponent of extreme freedom, unrestrained by morality, religion, or law. The words sadism and sadist are derived from his name.
Sade was incarcerated in various prisons and an insane asylum for about 32 years of his life: 11 years in Paris (10 of which were spent in the Bastille), a month in the Conciergerie, two years in a fortress, a year in Madelonnettes Convent, three years in Bicêtre Hospital, a year in Sainte-Pélagie Prison, and 13 years in the Charenton asylum. During the French Revolution he was an elected delegate to the National Convention. Many of his works were written in prison.

De Sade (German title: Das Ausschweifende Leben des Marquis De Sade) is a 1969 American-German drama film starring Keir Dullea and Senta Berger. It is based on the life of Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de Sade, named Louis Alphonse Donatien in the film.
Dullea, in his first film role since the 1968 release of 2001: A Space Odyssey, plays the title character in a film characterized by its psychedelic imagery and go-go sensibilities. As the dying Marquis recalls his life out of sequence, he is terrorized by his uncle and haunted by his own past of debauchery.
Plot
The middle-aged Marquis de Sade arrives at his ancestral estate of La Coste, having escaped incarceration. In the theater at the castle, he meets his uncle, the Abbe, who persuades him to stay to watch an entertainment that has been prepared for him. The play is a parody of the Marquis' parents haggling with M. and Mme. Montreuil over the prospective marriage of their children, leading to a flashback in time to the actual negotiations.

Marquis de Sade were a French post-punk band, active between 1977 and 1981. In their time, the group produced two studio albums, 1979's Dantzig Twist and 1981's Rue de Siam.

Assassin's Creed is an action-adventure video game series that consists of nine main games and a number of supporting materials, as of 2015. Assassin's Creed is a 2007 action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It is the first major installment in the Assassin's Creed series. There's so much cool stuff in the game that we're actually spoiled for choice in terms of what we can use and what we can't, but we also want to bring new elements to it and perhaps our own version of things that already exist in the game. But we're definitely making a feature film, and we're approaching it as a feature film, as opposed to approaching it as a video game. But I love the world... When I met up with the guys from Ubisoft and they started to explain this whole world and the idea of DNA memory – you know, I think it's a very feasible scientific theory. I just thought, 'This is so rich,' and about the possibility of it being this cinematic experience. So I'm really excited about it, and we're working very hard to make sure that we've got the best and most exciting, original package."

The Marquis of Sade was born in Paris on June 2nd, 1740. At 10, he was sent to the college Louis-le-Grand, where he developed a passion for drama and flogging. At 14, he joined the army and participated in the Seven years war against Prussia. His superior described him as “deranged, but brave.”
After the war, he married the Heiress of Montreuil, with whom he would have 2 sons and a daughter.
His first scandal occurred in 1763 when he was imprisoned following denunciations of blasphemy from a prostitute. In the Ancien Régime, this was a big deal but the Marquis was a noble so he was liberated.
On the Easter weekend of 1768, he offered her work as a maid but instead, attached her to a bed and whipped her violently. He then slashed her skin to pour hot wax in the open wounds. All the while, he masturbated while threatening to kill her if she stopped screaming. When he was done, he forced her to do blasphemous acts before trapping her in her room while he visited some prostitutes. However, she escaped through a window and roused the village against him. The Marquis was only sent to prison for 6 months as his family paid off the victim.
In June 1772, he was accused of poisoning some prostitutes during an orgy he organized. The court of Provence condemned them to the death penalty, but the Marquis escaped to Italy. He was arrested in Savoy five months later but escaped again and hid in his Lacoste castle in Provence with his wife, who would now become his accomplice.
In 1774, they held captive six young children in their castle for six weeks during which Sade subjected them to numerous sexual abuses. Following that, the King ordered his arrest, but the Marquis escaped once again to Italy dressed as a priest.
When he returned to Lacoste in 1776, he hired young children which he then sexually abused. This would continue for another year until a father assaulted Sade with a gun to reclaim his daughter. This time Sade didn't have his family to help out.
His mother-in-law asked the King a Lettre de Cachet against him which imprisoned. First in Vinceness and then in the Bastille in 1784. There, he started writing down his wildest fantasies, one of which was "120 Days of Sodom”. It was written on an extremely small font on a 12-meter roll he had to hide in his cell’s wall in fear of having it confiscated.
On July 4th, Sade was dragged naked as a worm to the Charenton Asylum, near Paris. Just 10 days later, the Bastille was stormed and then destroyed, with it, so Sade believed, his manuscript for "120 Days of Sodom" which devastated him.
In 1790, the Marquis was freed from the mental asylum after the National Assembly abolished the use of lettre de cachet. His wife divorced him soon after. Following his release, he renamed himself as Louis Sade and unsuccessfully attempted to direct some of his plays before using his writing talents at the service of the revolution.
In 1791, he successfully published “Justine”, which he had written in the Bastille, and a year later, he was elected as one of the delegates of the National Convention, where he would regularly make staunch atheist speeches.
Robespierre, who fervently despised atheists, imprisoned him in 1793 and condemned him to the guillotine in 1794 but Sade was saved by the downfall of Robespierre. Terrified, he decided to leave politics.
In 1799, the third edition of Justine is published, “La Nouvelle Justine”, which comprised of 10 novels illustrated with one hundred pornographic engravings. Napoleon hated the book to the point of imprisoning Sade in 1801 because of it. Eventually, he was sent to the Charenton asylum again where, in 1810, he started an affair with a 14-years old girl until his death in 1814 at the age of 74.
After his death, his son burnt every manuscript he could find but someone had found and saved the manuscript of "120 Days of Sodom" which Iwan Boch, a German psychiatrist and published in 1904.

The Marquis of Sade was born in Paris on June 2nd, 1740. At 10, he was sent to the college Louis-le-Grand, where he developed a passion for drama and flogging. At 14, he joined the army and participated in the Seven years war against Prussia. His superior described him as “deranged, but brave.”
After the war, he married the Heiress of Montreuil, with whom he would have 2 sons and a daughter.
His first scandal occurred in 1763 when he was imprisoned following denunciations of blasphemy from a prostitute. In the Ancien Régime, this was a big deal but the Marquis was a noble so he was liberated.
On the Easter weekend of 1768, he offered her work as a maid but instead, attached her to a bed and whipped her violently. He then slashed her skin to pour hot wax in the open wounds. All the while, he masturbated while threatening to kill her if she stopped screaming. When he was done, he forced her to do blasphemous acts before trapping her in her room while he visited some prostitutes. However, she escaped through a window and roused the village against him. The Marquis was only sent to prison for 6 months as his family paid off the victim.
In June 1772, he was accused of poisoning some prostitutes during an orgy he organized. The court of Provence condemned them to the death penalty, but the Marquis escaped to Italy. He was arrested in Savoy five months later but escaped again and hid in his Lacoste castle in Provence with his wife, who would now become his accomplice.
In 1774, they held captive six young children in their castle for six weeks during which Sade subjected them to numerous sexual abuses. Following that, the King ordered his arrest, but the Marquis escaped once again to Italy dressed as a priest.
When he returned to Lacoste in 1776, he hired young children which he then sexually abused. This would continue for another year until a father assaulted Sade with a gun to reclaim his daughter. This time Sade didn't have his family to help out.
His mother-in-law asked the King a Lettre de Cachet against him which imprisoned. First in Vinceness and then in the Bastille in 1784. There, he started writing down his wildest fantasies, one of which was "120 Days of Sodom”. It was written on an extremely small font on a 12-meter roll he had to hide in his cell’s wall in fear of having it confiscated.
On July 4th, Sade was dragged naked as a worm to the Charenton Asylum, near Paris. Just 10 days later, the Bastille was stormed and then destroyed, with it, so Sade believed, his manuscript for "120 Days of Sodom" which devastated him.
In 1790, the Marquis was freed from the mental asylum after the National Assembly abolished the use of lettre de cachet. His wife divorced him soon after. Following his release, he renamed himself as Louis Sade and unsuccessfully attempted to direct some of his plays before using his writing talents at the service of the revolution.
In 1791, he successfully published “Justine”, which he had written in the Bastille, and a year later, he was elected as one of the delegates of the National Convention, where he would regularly make staunch atheist speeches.
Robespierre, who fervently despised atheists, imprisoned him in 1793 and condemned him to the guillotine in 1794 but Sade was saved by the downfall of Robespierre. Terrified, he decided to leave politics.
In 1799, the third edition of Justine is published, “La Nouvelle Justine”, which comprised of 10 novels illustrated with one hundred pornographic engravings. Napoleon hated the book to the point of imprisoning Sade in 1801 because of it. Eventually, he was sent to the Charenton asylum again where, in 1810, he started an affair with a 14-years old girl until his death in 1814 at the age of 74.
After his death, his son burnt every manuscript he could find but someone had found and saved the manuscript of "120 Days of Sodom" which Iwan Boch, a German psychiatrist and published in 1904.

In 2014, the world heralded its return to France when the scroll was purchased for millions by Gérard Lhéritier, the self-made son of a plumber who had used his savvy business skills to upend France’s renowned rare-book market. But the sale opened the door to vendettas by the government, feuds among antiquarian booksellers, manuscript sales derailed by sabotage, a record-breaking lottery jackpot, and allegations of a decade-long billion-euro con, the specifics of which, if true, would make the scroll part of France’s largest-ever Ponzi scheme.

I have drawn from arguments given by various characters in Juliette, Justine, and Philosophy in the Bedroom. There is not a great deal of secondary literature on Sade in the analytic tradition; however, Roche's article "Much Sense the Starkest Madness: Sade's Moral Scepticism" was useful, particularly for the first half the video.

Marquis de Sade
Donatien Alphonse François, Marquis de Sade (2 June 1740 – 2 December 1814) (French: [maʁki də sad]), was a French aristocrat, revolutionary politician, philosopher, and writer, famous for his libertine sexuality. His works include novels, short stories, plays, dialogues, and political tracts; in his lifetime some were published under his own name, while others appeared anonymously and Sade denied being their author. De Sade is best known for his erotic works, which combined philosophical discourse with pornography, depicting sexual fantasies with an emphasis on violence, criminality, and blasphemy against the Catholic Church. He was a proponent of extreme freedom, unrestrained by morality, religion, or law. The words sadism and sadist are derived from his name.
Sade was incarcerated in various prisons and an insane asylum for about 32 years of his life: 11 years in Paris (10 of which were spent in the Bastille), a month in the Conciergerie, two years in a fortress, a year in Madelonnettes Convent, three years in Bicêtre Hospital, a year in Sainte-Pélagie Prison, and 13 years in the Charenton asylum. During the French Revolution he was an elected delegate to the National Convention. Many of his works were written in prison.
