Arthur Conan Doyle

Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle KStJ, DL (22 May 1859 – 7 July 1930) was a British writer and physician, most noted for his fictional stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes, which are generally considered milestones in the field of crime fiction.

He is also known for writing the fictional adventures of a second character he invented, Professor Challenger, and for popularising the mystery of the Mary Celeste. He was a prolific writer whose other works include fantasy and science fiction stories, plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction and historical novels.

Name

Doyle is often referred to as "Sir Arthur Conan Doyle" or simply "Conan Doyle" (implying that Conan is part of a compound surname, as opposed to a given middle name). His baptism entry in the register of St Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh gives "Arthur Ignatius Conan" as his given names, and "Doyle" as his surname. It also names Michael Conan as his godfather. The cataloguers of the British Library and the Library of Congress treat "Doyle" alone as his surname.

Conan Doyle (rugby union)

Conan Doyle is a rugby player for Garryowen F.C. His usual position is inside centre, but he also plays out-half. He has made two appearances for Munster Rugby in the Magners League, but was released by Munster at the end of the 2008/2009 season.

While at Munster he was selected for the Ireland national team for the 2009 Rugby World Cup Sevens. As of the 2011 season Doyle is the club captain of Garryowen.

  The Man with the Watches (1898) by Arthur Conan Doyle

  This is a popular short story by Arthur Conan Doyle, first published in July 1898 in The Strand magazine. The Man With The Watches begins with a passenger train leaving Euston station in London for Manchester on the evening of the 18th March 1892. The weather is singularly inclement, but it's a favourite among businessmen as it's quick, stopping only three times. As the story unfolds we hear from a detective, who gives his opinion about this thorny case. Some consider this detective to be Sherlock Holmes himself and declare this story to be an extra-canonical tale featuring Conan Doyle's most celebrated character. I don't think so. This is a popular short story by Arthur Conan Doyle, first published in July 1898 in The Strand magazine. The Man With The Watches begins with a passenger train leaving Euston station in London for Manchester on the evening of the 18th March 1892. The weather is singularly inclement, but it's a favourite among businessmen as it's quick, stopping only three times. As the story unfolds we hear from a detective, who gives his opinion about this thorny case. Some consider this detective to be Sherlock Holmes himself and declare this story to be an extra-canonical tale featuring Conan Doyle's most celebrated character. I don't think so. He is also known for writing the fictional adventures of a second character he invented, Professor Challenger, and for popularising the mystery of the Mary Celeste. Name

Doyle is often referred to as "Sir Arthur Conan Doyle" or simply "Conan Doyle" (implying that Conan is part of a compound surname, as opposed to a given middle name). His baptism entry in the register of St Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh gives "Arthur Ignatius Conan" as his given names, and "Doyle" as his surname. It also names Michael Conan as his godfather. The cataloguers of the British Library and the Library of Congress treat "Doyle" alone as his surname.
